Hey Guys,

I have a question about something I saw in several of the videos on Youtube. The guy was running SH3 and on his attack map he was using a 360 degree bearing plotter (I think that's what it is called--a protractor that moves and turns with the U-boot) It had all 360 degrees and much finer markings on it than the stock one that comes standard with SH3. I've searched thru the downloads section and can't find anything similar to it. Sure would come in handy for finding AOBs. Anyone know where this tool is hiding?

Thanx

That compass indicator comes as standard with the GWX supermod. I'm not sure if it is also a stand-alone mod.

If your system is up to it, install GWX (many other supermods are available...) and enjoy a richer U-experience!

I'm not sure how to do screenshots yet. I will figure it out and then post a picture of both mine and his.

His protractor.

My protractor on attack map. You can see how much rougher it is, without the full graduations.

It's not exactly the same, but this one can be found on the (older) legacy downloads page:

http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches05/bearings.zip

I'm sure there are similar bearing wheels (modified Uboat map icons) in the more recent download section.

Sure would come in handy for finding AOBs. Anyone know where this tool is hiding? No actually. AOB are measured from the target's point of view, starting from his bow. And increasing along both the port and starboard direction. It is an easy mistake to make but it should be understood as Angle on (Target) Bow. These wheels are only for your own ship. At best they can give relative bearings of distant objects (or help plot them) just like the crew reports to you.

For them to be used to show AOB, these files need to be modded to replace the target icon files (different filename and folders). And if you encounter a convoy then it could be a major framerate drain. As these are large high resolution files that need to be rotated.

Hi.

It looks like Livin Silent Hunter version 5.1. With this supermod you have this look at the nav- and the attack-map when you zoom in.
YouŽll find it here (http://www.lsh3.com/v5/index_en.html). Very nice mod.

In the video the guy says he is using SH3 with a couple of mods, and I don't know exactly which mods. So, I'm not sure what's going on for certain.

Pisces,

I think that zip file might be the one I've been looking for. I'll have a closer look at it.
I misspoke when I said AOB. I meant firing solutions.

THANKS!

That bearing.zip file is for the nav map. What I'm looking for is a similar tool for the attack map.

Well, this is at least the wheel that looks like the one on the attackmap screen shot:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1601

But it is also intended to replace your uboat icon. I don't know which file is responsible for showing a target on the nav map, or even on the attack map if that uses a different file (I doubt it). I suggest you investigate yourself which file name it should be, by using a image viewing application that can open .tga files. I personally prefer XnView for that. It's probably just a mater of replacing the file.

But make sure you keep a copy of the original!!!!!!

Thanks. I will check it out.
