I'm playing sh3 for some time and it's one very good simulation apart from other versions but I have many trouble with destroyers sonar. I'm talking about 1944-1945. Nothing is problem to me but I have many trouble with sonar escape when they catch me. I can easy manage whole playing but at the end I can play few hours without chance of escape their sonars. even more is trouble when there is more destroyers at the same time and after some time there is comming even more of them. I read many stuff and tryed many things with decoys and all other stuff but they just hanging on me.
I would love to her comments if someone have good expirience with playing.
If I'm enought close to land then I can escape them because they are struggle manevouring near land or close to canals.
I can imagine how hard was been in ww2 43-45 for submariners, they had no chance.

Hi RussaX37. Welcome to SubSim. :salute:

Most people will tell you that if you are detected in 44/45 you are toast. Rule number one, don't get detected. Also, in my experience if there is more than one escort, decoys are useless. Remember rule number one. Good luck.

yeah seems right. You have to come in front of convoy and fire fishes to your target on long range and then try to get away from there. they are just pinging everywhere so when they come 2-3km to you mean you are detected because of long range sonar.
I think there exist some ways where they are stuggle with hunting also disabled or damaged boat with slow speed can be useful for help you trying to make them trouble or escape

By 1944 you had best not make an attack with escorts nearby without a 100% hull integrity sub, because your only chance of escape is diving to maximum depth. I go to 200-220 meters. Rough seas will help. In calm seas you can forget about it if there is more than one escort.

Your best choices to survive are first, fire steamers from 6000m away and dive immediately and hope you get away or have a bunch of homing torpedoes so you can take out the escorts.

If you have a Type XXI and the renown (I edit my patrols_0 to have unlimited renown) I load up my stores with 10-20 homing torpedoes and lay waste to escorts.

yeah you can try to sink escorts but when first torpedo hit all escorts start with hunting and changing direstion so all other torpedos miss, same for merchant and other ships. Also whole convoy is running over 20 knots so if you miss them it's over.
All that require good strategy.

Not with acoustic homing torpedoes. :rotfl2:

I can tell you that I successfully escaped 2 escorts with sonar pulsing without using decoys.
I had 7ks seed from escaping depth charges andwhen I went on slow speed one of them jsut did mistake in their huntng strategy so 1 escort stopped and blocked another one to attack me so I went almost below this one and then everything went in my good. They just changed a bit hunting place giving me chance to escape from sonar.

....(I edit my patrols_0 to have unlimited renown)......

Ummm......that sounds interesting. Exactly how do you do that?
