Might be drugs, might not be, they haven't said yet Jim. Either way a shame, loved his character in Twister (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxA5Wi981V80).

Way to young. Recently saw 'The Master', and thought he was perfect in that portrayal.

Well, another one bites the dust.
Never met the man.
It may not have been his best or most notable work, but I'll remember him for his role as Gust Avrakotos in Charlie Wilson's War.
Gust Avrakotos: Yeah, well I'd like to take a moment to review the several ways in which you're a douche bag?

TV news are reporting he was found with a needle in his arm and two plastic bags containing a substance suspected of being heroin.

Oh man, not Hoffman!?
I'm shocked. So sorry to hear...
Update: News say he was found with a needle in his arm and some heroin next to him...:-?

I am wondering about this hype. I admit the name and man is a complete no-name to me. Did not even notice that he existed. Probably a US TV-show man?

Not what I'd call a no-name.

Squibb pharmaceuticals might have a differing opinion.:03:
But, illicit manmade drugs? :down::down:
You have no idea what's in them so you may as well play Russian roulette with a .357

Well, all those films mean nothing to me. Maybe his reputation stems from his theatre works then.

The Big Lebowsky?
The Talented Mr. Ripley?
I'm not a fan of the first, and never saw the second, but both are highly-acclaimed films that people talk about a lot, and not just Americans. I am familiar with Charlie Wilson's War and Before The Devil Knows You're Dead. Both are fine films in their very different ways.

I've seen some of his work, but I wouldn't know his name (until now!), but I have little respect or sympathy for those who choose this lifestyle - and they do choose, even if only initially to try.

Sorry, this guy completely evaded my radar. If I ever saw him in any movie, I at least did not take any special note of him. The four movies you mention also have no meaning to me.

Hmm.... He did win that thing called an Academy Award for best actor in 2005 for Capote . He was also nominated three other years for his supporting work in Charlie Wilson's War (2007), Doubt (2008) and The Master (2012).
As Hollywood actors go I guess you could say he was mildly successful. :O:

I was really surprised the man was only 46.
Did you see his role in Moneyball? The man looked like he is 60!

Sad news. Owning Mahowny and Love Liza are the 2 films he starred in that come to mind when ever his name is mentioned. He seemed like a pretty versatile actor and will be missed.
RIP
