I feel like a tourist asking this here...

I am searching for a good, realistic tank simulator set during the second world war. One that is not too new, as I am running fairly modest system specifications. If anybody can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

War Thunder is getting tanks soon, but you'll probably be better off with the suggestions above :)

Howdy,
Have you tried World of Tanks, It's free to download. It's a simple to play on- line multiplayer. It's all the rage. The graphics are nice which you can adjust to match your system's capability.

Try it out!

Well, I've heard really bad things about WoT, but thanks for suggesting it :salute:

Personally, I'll just wait until War Thunder gets tanks.

Ok....can somebody clear this up for me?

I thought World of Tanks and World of Warplanes and that stuff....isn't that just the separate pieces of War Thunder in separate games? I

World of Tanks and World of Warplanes are made by Wargaming.net. War Thunder is made by Gaijin. Same basic theory, but Wargaming.net's games aren't as realistic as War Thunder.

Tanks for all of your help. I managed to get a copy of Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942. It runs nicely on my current computer, but I am planing on possibly upgrading soon. Does SFK42 work with winows 8?

If I were you, I'd get Windows 7 instead. I haven't heard much praise for Windows 8.

Windows 8.1 64bit is very nice, I've come to really really like it, even tho I love XP more and hate to see it go. Not all games you could play on XP are playable on 8.1, and that is the biggest downfall I've seen for 8.1.

Good choice. Just started playing my copy recently and heartily enjoying it.

The NTA 1.8 mod is highly recommended, details on the Gravitram forum here:

The mission reports here showcase some of the extra stuff you get with this and the Steel Panzers Mod:

Iron Front Liberation 1944 based on the Arma engine is also fantastic for its combined arms play.

You basically have three to chose form:

1) Steel Fury which was made in 2007and has been greatly modded and expanded, Panzer Elite which goes back to 1999 but has been heavily modded and updated and is still played and T34 versus Tiger from 2007 which was almost sent to an early grave because it was buggy , unfinished and the developers dropping it like a hot potato. Currently only Zeewolf mods it but his mods are not free.

Steel Fury is only SP( here's the link to the forum http://graviteam.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0 )

, Panzer Elite is both SP and MP ( here's the link to their forumhttp://pedg.yuku.com/directory#.U1CdaE2KCUk)

TvsT also but nobody plays the MP anymore and for the SP you need to subscribe to Zeewolf's membership there's sticky dedicated to it a little above.

War Thunder has mixed arm battles (tanks and planes), and is much cheaper. With tanks now out, I can say as part of the CBT, they were very fun to ride in, with the added bonus of, if you are destroyed by a tank, you can hop into an IL-10 to pay him back in kind. World Of Tanks does not do this.

If you're looking for an MMO WW2 tank experience with Western Front equipment, you may wish to check out (if you've not already) ww2 Online. Its been around since June 2002 (and the graphics show it, but that its still around and people pay to play is testament of its value).

Or you can try Red Orchestra 2 Heroes of Stalingrad which has some playable tanks( Panzer IV F2, T 70, T-34/42 etc) and some maps made for tank warfare.
