View Full Version : Annoying popup

I keep getting a popup from lpcloudsvr302 telling me to update/buy/download whatever. The problem is that I only get it when I come to Subsim. I've been online looking for an answer, and I've tried every single change to my settings different sites have suggested, all with no luck. Most of the different sites say that it can be easily fixed by their latest, greatest free product. I've resisted trying any of them so far on the chance they'll just lead to something worse. None of the virus killers I've tried has had any effect.

Has anyone seen this and know how to deal with it?

Been there, done that. None of the listed programs show up with either Windows uninstaller or IoBit Uninstaller, which is far better. And, as I said, the last link is "download our super-duper program".

No thanks.

[edit] One of the listed programs is MalwareBytes. I've used it before and know it to be safe. We'll give it a shot.

Tried Malwarebytes. Still getting the popup.

I use RougeKiller first. Then Malwarebytes. Catches most problems.
Then if needed? I run Combofix.

Thanks, Jeff. Just downloaded it. I'm currently running a deep scan with MalwareBytes, so I may not be able to try it until tomorrow.

Hope you can get rid of it. I find it odd that it only pops up at Subsim.

So do I. I can't figure that part out. I just ran a full scan with MSE. Took 17 hours. "No Threats Found".

That's cause Subsim is the only website he goes to :arrgh!:

Anyone else seeing this? I am not, but that does not mean there is no problem.

Steve, visit some other vBulletin 3.8 forums, see if that has anything to do with it.

Not really, but you're right, it is pretty much the only vBilletin site I frequent.

Good idea. I will try some more.

I share Steve's frustration, this being one of the regular topics of conversation during our almost daily Skype discussions.

Personally, I don't have the same bother and all the programmes I use have been tried by Steve but none have sorted out the problem.

Most frustrating.

I use RougeKiller first.
This morning it got worse. Before I was only getting them when I'd go into an actual thread. Today I was getting them in the menus as well, and sometimes twice in the same visit.

I ran RogueKiller, and it seems to have done the job! Fingers crossed, but so far it's looking good.

Thanks, my friend. :sunny:

Hi,

If Malwarebytes hasn't rectified it (i use the PRO version) then try TDSSKiller (it's by Kaspersky so it's legit!)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tdsskiller/

And after that if it still persists try ADWcleaner

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

These are both hosted by Bleepingcomputer - these guys write programs for defeating Malware and are the good guys - i'm an IT tech and i trust these guys! used both these program previously with good results :)

hope this helps

Steve, disable the Windows Restore Function, if you did not so far. Windows XP keeps restoring deleted necessary files while booting, even if they are as necessary as malware files. As long as the function is enabled, you won't get rid of it...

I ran ADWcleaner and so far I haven't seen any new popups. Fingers crossed again, but I'm not letting my hopes get too high until I know for sure. Thanks for those links.

Where do I find that? Remember, I'm an idiot where computers are concerned.

deactivate it on the C:\ drive. I hope it helps...

http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm with better "visuals"

If the tools are not finding anything - then "danasan" is onto something, system restore could be restoring infected/malcious files!

I know I am the guy remembered for always bringing the bad news, but I'm sorry: Steve, youre system is corruoted, and no matter what you do and believe to have achieved in tweaks and reapirs - it will remain to corrupted until you play Global Thermonuclear War with your HD, to quote WOPR. It's grim, but its true.
