Hard to say, since this picture wasn't taken by the newer Curiosity rover which landed in 2012, but the older Opportunity one. January 25th will be the tenth anniversary of the Opportunity rover's landing on Mars. I believe the robotic arm is suffering from a bit of rheumatism.

If you look at the picture taken just before, where there's no stone and the first picture where the stone is there. it is a few second between those two pictures. I guess it have been some little asteroid that hit Mars and one of it's stone flew up and landed in front of Opportunity between these two shots

Actually, these pictures were taken two weeks apart. The first on December 26th and the second on January 8th.

My mistake I have only seen the pictures with the data on it. I read it as it only was a few second or minutes between the two pictures.
