Hi,

after using the excellent information provided in this forum including the valuable content made available in the download section for quite some time already, I’d like to introduce myself.

However, prior to that: a big THANK YOU to all of you guys who dedicated tons of hours to all the mods and work which found their way into this forum (while I provided a vibrant community with self-developed coding for some years I do recall what amount of hours are burned with something like that…)

I was looking for titles like my beloved games “Silent Service” and “Up Periscope!” since ages. With that piece of information available, it’s not that hard to guess my age, though… I did not really find anything until there was the steam christmas sale last year where I got Silent Hunter III essentially for free.

Since then I spent a huge amount of hours with that great game. Played my first career with the GWX3.0 Mod in Widescreen, but was destroyed during my 11th Feindfahrt. I sank two ships from a convoy and one of the three destroyers but was not able to escape from the two remaining ones. After all, maybe a > 50% realism was too much for me …

Last weekend I discovered the MaGuiMod in the forums and deployed it yesterday. I like that even better, especially with the widescreen version.

Great to see so many active players for such an old game – well, after spending some nights at sea I do see why this is still the case…

Best,
10tacle

Welcome aboard!

I think you will find plenty of "old timers" here who like the slow pace and dedication required for a simulation of this nature.

I, too, remember (and was absolutely awestruck by) Silent Service on the old original IBM PCs. Even before that I was blown away by a sub sim for the TI99/4A (maybe Up Periscope?).

This game was released in 2005 and with GWX even now it is still a hugely visually enjoyable and tactically engaging game.

Trying to get through the entire war from 1939 to 1945 is a massively difficult and challenging undertaking that always keeps me coming back even if I take a break for months at a time.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

I played Silent Service on an Atari 520ST. When I got my first PC I discovered the original Silent Hunter and thought it was better. I've played them all, and SH3 and SH4 are still my favorites.
