Need Some Mod Suggestions

Hello, I just purchased SH4 and I am looking for some good mods to install. Does anyone have any suggestions?

First things first,

What version do you have, is it Silent Hunter IV or the one with U-Boat missions addon?

If you only have SH4 you should update it to patch 1.4 wich can be found here:

However, you should try and find the U-boat addon which is version 1.5, most MOD's are for 1.5 version and will not work with 1.4.

You can find a copy of the U-boat addon by going to Amazon.com (Link is on the top right of this forum).


When you've desided what MOD's you want to use check the MOD makers release thread and the README's for additional information on compatibility README's can be found within the downloaded MOD.

Currently I only have SH4, not the U-Boat Missions Addon. Not sure if it makes a difference but I purchased SH4 through steam and since most mods are for 1.5 I will probably purchase the addon on steam as well.

I have no idea if you have to update a Steam version with a Steam version, I know there's a dowload version of the U-boat Missions at Amazon.com for $9.99.

Ok so I now have both SH4 and the U-Boat missions. With that in mind, what mods should I get to make the game more challenging, look better, work better, etc.

I would recommend:

RFB 2.0
RFB 2.0 patch
RSRDC v575
RSRDC v5xx patch

This will provide a good game experience, without having to use so many mods that you go batty, trying to figure out mod soup issues.

There are a couple of Mega Mod's out there, they all play differently so it's all about preference really.

Run Silent Run Deep Campaign is a mega Mod witch can be run over TMO and RFB and adds historical battles and convoy trafic lanes.

I suggest you try out the different Mega Mod's starting with GFO, without any other Mod's installed, do a few missions, test another Mega Mod, see which you prefer.
It will make it easier for you to look for compatible Mod's like eye candy and such.
