Tried to do a search for this question under the Silent Hunter 5 forum and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Anyways, from my memory of gwx 3.0 (been a while) while in silent running you shouldn't go above 50 rpm's on the engines. I can't seem to find where the rpm gauge is in the command room. Also, I can't remember what the top speed for silent running is recommended when trying to escape destroyers.

I'm running most everything from sober's mega mod if this will make a difference (thinking IRAI makes it tougher to get away) in answering my questions.

Hi

For SH5, you shouldn't relate SH3 details. I don't know, but doubt the developers were being so exact as to what rpm's you need. Anyway, you can get a good idea by just ordering silent running. See what speed the game goes to.

My understanding is that, besides slowing down, no repairs will be made, the torpedo loads stop, and whatever numeric 'noise' value those items added to your sub detectability percentage is subtracted.

The whole thing is a calculation based on numbers for each item. Programming is just a bunch of numbers, such as probability calculations.

So, order it and do some investigation on what the game does for you.
:hmmm:
