Hey Guys, I just wanted to say hello. I joined up a few minutes ago. I've had SH3 for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I have trouble walking away from it!
I did have a couple of questions for any experienced Kapitaen-Leutnants out there. On the con, the watch guys are cupping their hands around their eyes. What happened to their binoculars?? I have version 1.4.0.1.
Also, in some of the tutorials I've looked at, the person is using some pretty fancy protractors and other chart tools. Much different from the protractor I got with my game. Is that a downoad or some other version of the game? Any info on those two subjects much appreciated.

Welcome aboard! :sunny:

There are some glitches with SH3 that are fixed by simply reloading the game. Others take mods. The "Chart Tools" question sounds like it might be "SH4 Map Tools For SH3".

Here is a sample of some of the mods that can be used with SH3.

More ideas and better answers can be had by asking in theSH3 forum. (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=182)

Do you know if reloading the game will lose me my saved career?

Welcome Aboard Joefour :salute:

The graphics problem may well be down to low specs on your current card...what do you currently have?

You can save the careers folder to desktop then replace the same folder in your new installation but ensure you have made no modifications or have no differences between both installations.

Jimbuna,

I have to admit I'm not even sure what kind of graphics card I have. I will try saving the carreer folder asnd reinstalling. That is, if I can ever tear myself away from the game long enough to do it!

For all the help you guys have given me, I say Tausend Dank, meine Kameraden!

Hey Guys,

I reinstalled the program as you suggested and managed to save my career, but the watch crew is still missing their binoculars. Has anyone else ever reported a weird problem like this?

Jimbuna, you asked me what video card I have. It looks like it is a Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family. The built-in device detector with SH3 tells me all my hardware is minimum or better.

Frustrating!

The built in device detector may well do but years ago I was informed similarly and had a similar problem.

It is no guarantee it will run everything at optimum settings.

Load the game and open up the video settings then turn off the high texture quality settings.

Now turn down the particle density slider bar bit by bit and hopefully you will find a compromise to make up for what I believe could be a deficiency in your graphics card.

Am I correct in assuming you mean point by point up or down on the particle density meter in order to find a sweet spot?

When looking at the slide bar far right is 100%.

If that is the setting in your install try dragging it left to say 90% and if no change in graphics, try dragging it to 80% and so on until hopefully, you will notice an improvement.

I'm afraid that didn't work. I nudged her down 10 by 10 until it's sitting at 0 points now. I'm beginning to think I'm missing a file.

Sorry to learn of it.....a reinstallation is worth a go but I'm still of the opinion it's down to the limitations of your graphics specs.

Resinstalling was the first thing I did. Perhaps it is the card. Funny, I can percieve no other graphics problems. I can live with it until I upgrade the video card. I'm having too much right now sending allied ships to Davy Jones' Locker. Thanks for the help! When I do get around to getting a more powerful card, I'll let you know how it turns out in case anyone else ever has the same prob.
