Chris Roberts and David Braben are currently working on incredibly detailed space sims (Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous respectively). I'm hoping crowd source funding becomes the answer to our collective dream of military sims being made possible by people (like us) who are drooling to pay for quality simulations that are impossible using the game development formula used by the big publishing houses that just want to cater to the masses (aka casual gamers) for a nice profit.
Chris Roberts has been a vocal supporter for games being developed for the sake of the game and not simply making money. So with all this said, has anyone heard any rumors of have any leads on a new sub sim (or other military platform for that matter)? I think it's tragic that we have all this amazing computer power today and nobody using it to develop accurate and detailed military sims because most people just want instant gratification type games.

Imagine all the top modders here on this forum worked together to make a new Sub sim :yeah:
That would be a kick starter I would back right now

I concur. Having the best of the best SH modders work together and make a kickstarter backed subsim would be awesome.

Actually, as I have postulated in previous musings, Just combining the best parts of SHV with nearly all of über SHIII with GWX and any/all of the super SHV/SHIII mods et al would suffice. I have proposed this to a gifted savant nephew of mine who fixes my computer for me (and his school's since the third grade) and is currently getting his degree in advanced cyber mysteries. He says it could be but that his programming skills aren't up to it...yet!

If he get's those skills up and you convince him to make it i'd help kickstart it.

Chris Roberts kickstarter fund is up to over 35 million. Over 330,000 pledges have been made. That averages to about $100 per person...not too far from a price many here would gladly pay for a well made sim. Of course, there would have to be the same number of pledges for the sim but I think with some creativity it could be funded. Perhaps over a longer period of time. And it probably wouldn't be as expensive in the first place.
