View Full Version : Problem getting Amazon SH5 to run instead of STEAM

OK, I had originally installed an run SH5 from Steam.
I uninstalled it and bought the downloadable version from Amazon.com so that I can modify the .exe file.
Now when I launch SH5 it launches Uplay which in turn tries to launch it again from Steam, which wants to re-install from Steam.
Any ideas on how to make the Amazon version run?
Steve
UPDATE:
OK, I fixed it before I even posted. Figured I would post this for others.
The problem is that Steam talks to your Uplay account, and your Uplay account knows that SH5 was previously installed from Steam, so when you try to launch it again it goes back to Steam.
To fix, I just created a separate Uplay account for the new SH5 install.
Unfortunately Uplay does not seem to be automatically updating the 1.0.5 SH5 to 2.1.0, so I will have to do that next.

This doesn't make me feel good, I want to install the DVD ROM tonight...
Did you follow Sober's instructions? How is the stability since you started playing?

H maillemaker,
Seems I’ve got the same problem as you have solved very nicely. I have been running the Steam version from SH5 for a long time but as I recently found the dvd Gold Edition my intention is to launch SH5 from dvd. But no luck. After uninstalling the Steam version and installing the dvd, UPLAY tried to launch SH5 from Steam.
You have solved this problem by creating a separate UPLAY account. My question is (rather stupid I’m afraid). How does one get a separate UPLAY account?
Hope you can help

Steam needs "Evaporating" get the Dvd it is no longer expensive.
Before loading the Dvd. Make sure that you leave no trace of Steam on your system.
Use a registry cleaner like "Ccleaner" and restart your system afterwards.
Go to your start button and use search and check again for any left over SH5.
If you find anything delete it and run the registry cleaner again.
If you already have a Uplay account create a new account for your new Silent Hunter 5 installation.
This will come up at the end of the installation.
If you do not create this new account you will find that your “Steam” “Uplay” account will cause problems.
The fact that you have installed SH5 “Uplay” recognises that you already have an account and this where the trouble can start.
After the install go to the following folders.
In the path Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\Data\Support\GameUpdater
There is a "GU" exe application that will update your game to v1.2

Thanks for your answer Theberbster. From your words I understand that I have to delete Steam totally. That’s a bit of a problem for me being also a great fan of Cliffs of Dover, the flightsimulator, only playable by Steam.
So for the moment there’s nothing else for it I’m afraid but running SH5 under Steam, somewhat mollified by modifications Steam accepts.
As it is unpredictable to say were one’s preferences lie tomorrow I gladly made a copy from your instruction!

Weinstube, DO NOT ERASE STEAM, you don't need to. I use to have the same problem:originally bought SH5 from steam, where I play ARMA 3, and I run it for a wile, but only to be "forced" to get another copy from a different source, just to be able to fully modding it.Which seam to me the same situation of yours.Like I told you, JUST CREATE A NEW U-PLAY ACCOUNT WITH A DIFFERENT USER NAME AND E MAIL.
I first whent on the steam library, right clicked on sh5 and then "erase all file". This erased sh5 from steam folder. Then, just to be sure, I went on control panel/programs and func. and uninstalled sh5.exe.Erased also the sh5 folder in C:/documents.Then installed new Sh5, patched to1.02 and then registred on U-play at the first run with a new user name and e mail. That will link the new sh5.exe to u-play WITHOUT steam.
Hope it help!

Hi ZAGOR64BZ
Problem is indeed I can’t “evaporate” Steam totally as I need it for the Cliffs of Dover flight simulator. So I followed your advice, thank’s very much and erased all SH5 files in Steam library etc. and I put up a fresh install from the SH5 dvd. When I tried to create a new U-PLAY account with different user name and e-mail address, U-PLAY asked for the production code. I typed in the dvd install code but no luck; U-PLAY did’nt accept it. Now is the dvd a second hand one. Perhaps that should be the reason for denying?
Other problem what do you mean by different e-mailaddress, is it that one has to make one with a cooked up surname and place of residence just for U-PLAY use? Or do I need another provider perhaps?
Mods are doing well on Steam but I would like very much to install TDW’s generic file patcher that’s why I want to get rid of it.
Perhaps you can get me some additional help?
