View Full Version : After troubled rollout, Obamacare's new test starts on New Year's Day
(Reuters) - New Year's Day will bring a fresh test for President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul, as hundreds of thousands of Americans will begin to use the program's new medical coverage for the first time.
For the nation's healthcare system as well as its politics, the stakes are huge in Wednesday's launch of the program known as Obamacare.

First contender for best post of next year :)
(Reuters) - Over two million people have enrolled in health insurance plans through the federally run HealthCare.gov and state healthcare enrollment websites, a U.S. administration official said on Tuesday.
HealthCare.gov covers 36 states, and another 14 states have their own websites. While short of the 3.3 million enrollees the Obama administration was hoping for by now under what has become known as "Obamacare," the number is a dramatic improvement from a month ago

Great article but useless. Needs to break it down by the numbers.
Medicaid?
Subsidized?
Non-subsidized?
If the overwhelming majority of sign up is Medicaid then the program is still screwed. I suspect this to be the case.
Probably too early to tell the outcome of this, wait six months or so to get into statistics and other relevant information.

It really is not to early. The overwhelming number of sign up(auto-enrolled) for the state of Maryland is 101k. http://www.enrollamerica.org/blog/2013/12/maryland-auto-enrollment-medicaid-pac/ These are people on Medicaid. Free healthcare. I suspect we will see the same result in all states. The program cannot sustain itself with a majority of non-payers. Without the hard numbers the article from Reuters is misleading to what some would see as a success for the program when in fact the program is failing to pay for itself as predicted (or hoodwink the young healthy to pay for it all).

It is the best article today showing how misleading the news can be. If you recall the BO administration was not producing any real numbers. When they did the numbers were sugar coated. No breakdown of the freebie and the payers. It truly is smoke and mirrors.

I signed up at the VA, maybe I won't bother paying for insurance anymore. :D

Why did you do that? If you have VA health coverage there is no reason to sign up for Obama care.:hmmm:
If you do not have VA health coverage and need it then you should have applied for VA care instead.
Seems a bit suspect that someone at the VA signed you up for the ACA when you can get VA which is just as good as the ACA
not to mention that VA has been in effect for many years and actually works to some extent while the ACA is a big fat ? .

I meant I signed up for VA benefits not that ACA. The only reason I visited "that" site is to aid in the congestion. :salute:

Ah I see yeah VA is not perfect but it has real funding. While the ACA is still a big question mark and personally I feel that the majority who have signed up for the ACA are one of two brackets either they are low income and already receive medicaid or they are people that could not get insurance due to per-existing conditions.
I very highly doubt that very many people who are actually capable of fully paying into ACA have signed up.I also feel that regardless of political view point many people who are able to pay their rates in full will not sign up for the ACA of course they have the tax if you refuse but if enough people refuse that tax wont be enough to cover the rest and that will also signify that the majority of the population disagrees with the law.
If you ask me that tax is an attempt to encourage(force) signing up for the ACA.at the end of the day ACA is unfair towards most middle class or the people on the fringe of poor but not poor enough to receive government benefits.

Sorry to hear that Jason. This seems to be the same road many have been directed. The law is constantly changed on a whim from the one in the WH. Congress spends all day saying the changes are unconstitutional yet do nothing...

"A LITTLE HUMOR"
A man goes into the hospital for a vasectomy. Before the procedure, a very attractive nurse comes in and takes his vitals, then tells him to
take all of his clothes off. When he is fully undressed she instructs him to lie down on the table.
The man obeys. The nurse then takes all of her clothes off and climbs on top and has her way with him.
Upon the completion of the act the man catches his breath and asks what that was all about. The nurse informs the patient that studies
have shown that before a vasectomy, if the man has an ejaculation, he will be more relaxed and that the cord is easier for the surgeon to
locate and sever, thereby making the surgery safer, more efficient and quicker.
The nurse then wheels the patient to the operating room.
While they are going down the hall the patient looks through a window to the right and sees six men in a room masturbating.
Curious, the man asks, "What are they doing in there"?
The nurse responds, "They're preparing for vasectomies too, but you have Blue Cross, and they have Obama Care."
