Woman suicide bomber kills at least 14 at Russian station

(Reuters) - A female suicide bomber blew herself up in the entrance hall of a Russian train station on Sunday, killing at least 14 people in the second deadly attack within three days as the country prepares to host the Winter Olympics.

The bomber detonated her explosives in front of a metal detector just inside the main entrance of Volgograd station. Footage shown on TV showed a massive orange fireball filling the stately colonnaded hall and smoke billowing out through shattered windows.

At least 12 people have been killed and more than 20 others hurt in a suspected suicide bombing on a trolleybus in the Russian city of Volgograd.

The blast comes a day after 17 people died in another suicide attack at the central station in the city.

The International Olympic Committee president says he has confidence that Russian authorities will deliver a "safe and secure" Games in Sochi.

Thomas Bach wrote to President Vladimir Putin to express condolences for the "despicable" attacks that struck Volgograd within 24 hours.

Investigators say the attacks on a railway station and trolleybus, which killed at least 31 people, were linked.

They struck just over a month before the Winter Olympics begin.

I was referring to the Caucasus region more specifically different groups of these land have never been fully loyal to Russian/Soviet/Russian authority.

Also the previous scorched earth campaigns carried out but Russia served only to spread the fire not stamp it out.Of course as I said this fire has been burning for a very long time and the scorched earth method has thus far failed.Now it is a very nasty situation leaving many people stuck in the middle.

Thousands of police are patrolling public transport and checking traffic in Volgograd after two suicide bomb attacks shook the south Russian city.

The number of people who died in the attacks has risen to 34, the regional health authority told Russian media, with some 60 injured.

It is unclear if the toll includes the bombers, who attacked the rail station on Sunday and a trolleybus on Monday.

The first victim has been buried - a policeman killed at the station.

I hope that the new year could bring about a movement for peace,in the region.

As they say in legalese, it goes toward intent. Old friends can be quite rude to each other and it's a good joke for them. Old enemies can be the same way. The difference is when it's obviously subtle sniping at people for no purpose other than to do it.
