I have sh 5 and i like it, but i always see equal amount of people in the sh 3 forum. Is the game that good. I am thinking about purchasing it on steam any input appreciated. Graphics are not the most important element in a game to me.

Think about how old SH3 is.:hmmm:
Think about how many players and mods are still active.
Sort of answers the question, doesn't it?

You would really be missing out if you didn't get SH-3. That game is a time tested classic that has aged gracefully over the 8 some years it has been out. The older it gets the more mods become available.

Having played both, SH5 first and then SH3 i would just like to give you my 2 cents.
I currently have 69 mods installed in SH5 and it's a great game modded.
Very pretty to look at and plays well on my system.
The modders have done a fantastic job getting SH5 to what it is today.
SH3 well what can i say...... its like a classic car it really is, I have GWX, SH3 Commander, OLC's GUI and a few other mods. Out of the two SH3 keeps me more immersed it may not be as pretty as SH5 but overall "IMO" is the better game and is the one i go back to time and time again.
You can buy both of them cheap so it's well worth trying both to see what you like.
I played SH5 first and really enjoyed it but kept hearing about how good SH3 is. (Kinda like you) When i first watched videos of SH3 on youtube i was put off because of how much prettier my SH5 is.
I decided to buy SH3 and give it a try......I was so glad i did.
GWX is awesome lots of cool new features, just read the manual that comes with it and you will see how much passion has gone into that mod.
SH3 Commander adds so much immersion and is a must have IMO.
Give it a try......

I bought Sh5, but found it didnt work on my system. I had sh3 for years unmodded until i found subsim. I now play gwx with commander and h.sie patch as well as a heap of other mods. I tried sh4 but i keep coming back to sh3 as the game is that good. The mods that have been made take the game to a new level. I recently intalled the other megamods, NYGM, LSH, and WAC but GWX just has that bit extra to keep me hooked.
The volume and quality of mods for sh3 means you can play the game the way YOU want. As realistic as possible, or as "arcady"(probably the wrong word) as you like. If you do go for it, i would get a disc, as steam can be a pain to mod as i found out with sh4.
Thats my tuppence worth, hope you make a wise choice

Buy SH3, best subsim of all time in my humble opinion.

Yes a highly recommended game steam can present some issues though much easier to have the disk copy (non starforced).

You can buy the game and download it from Ubisoft's Ubistore. It is 2 bucks, and does not fight with Mods like the Stream version can.

This is the version I have, and could not be happier.

If you like SH5 you'll probably like SH3 even more. If you do pick it up be sure to use the Amazon.com link at the top right.

IMO SH III is the superior game, not only in terms of multiple playable submarines, but unlike SHV, people arent all over subsim talking about how its needs to be modded out the wahoo to simply run without crashing every 30 seconds...
I have the Steam version and had 0 problems with it? What's supposed to not work?

I have SH3 without steam (no additional.. process/network service/registration/
game show recording... you got it) and had 0 problems with steam! ;)
So if you haven't any trouble, why ask you?
problems you could get:
STEAM and SH3 issues (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=201827)
SH3 Commander and STEAM (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=201516&langid=5)
..other not mentioned (please complete)

Steam can be finicky if you don't know what you are doing or are just afraid of computers in general OR always use "defualt" settings without knowing the problems that can be caused and not knowing how to fix/circumvent those issues. many people have problemes activating mods, atleast thats the most common problem I have had people message me about both here and Youtube. Another thing is the way steam does their DRM at times it can be annoying for some people. especially the older generation of gamers. But it beats having computer killing DRM *cough*starforce*cough*.
