View Full Version : Neanderthals could speak like modern humans, study suggests
http://i1358.photobucket.com/albums/q764/gasturbin/_63621607_face_colouradjust_zps527ff1e4.jpg (http://s1358.photobucket.com/user/gasturbin/media/_63621607_face_colouradjust_zps527ff1e4.jpg.html)
Neanderthals may have had complex language.
An analysis of a Neanderthal's fossilised hyoid bone - a horseshoe-shaped structure in the neck - suggests the species had the ability to speak.
This has been suspected since the 1989 discovery of a Neanderthal hyoid that looks just like a modern human's.
He seems to have talked in an understandable way, however, he needs a haircut if he will stand for any studio program :)

I've known people who looked like certain representations of Homo Neanderthalis, and I once worked with a Mexican guy who had a very lean hatchet face. I swear he looked just like a Mayan pictogram.

I agree :)
Politicians are a low lifeform species which adapt to everything very well,
and thus never die out.
Only joking, of course. :O:

Why? My only question is whether you have to be a lowlife scumbag to become a politician or if you learn it from on-the-job training? :arrgh!:

Either but the former does give one a distinct advantage.
I suspect that the politician is evolved from lowlife scum.

Wow! So the German Military has actually bought Neanderthals back from extinction!? I know that you're not joking, because The Media told me that Germans don't have a sense of humour. And The Media is our God. Praise The Media.
^You nail it, the Germans' sense of humor is well known :D
Is this whole Neanderthals speaking like humans theory a possible explanation for the Kardashians, Miley Cysrus, Kanye West, et al?...

If I had been joking there would have been a banana peel in my post. Steve told me that there is no humour (had to look that word up and still don't understand it's meaning...) without banana peels.
But we did not have to bring them back, they were actually never gone it seems.
Germans don't find that amusing...

Don't find what amusing?
My grandmother was German, you know. Germans also do have a sense of humor. I happen to have a book in my library called The Complete Compendium of German Humor.
I haven't been able to make much sense of it. All the pages are blank.
My second ex was of German descent (her mother and father came to the US after WW2). I long ago heard that line about Austrians being Germans with a sense of humor and repeated it to her and her mother...
Confirmed: Germans do not have a sense of humor...
...and having 2 German women mad at you at the same time is likewise unamusing...

My friend Rocky and his wife once told me a story...
Rocky and Cathy were having dinner with his parents - his dad a career army and air force sergeant with a lot of good stories to tell, and his mom a girl dad had met in Germany after the war - when for some reason the subject of honey came up. It seems mom kept her own honey, and made the mistake of saying "Norman loves my honey pot." Cathy lost it first, then Rocky, and finally his dad. Mom didn't make matters better by asking, in all seriousness, "Norm, don't you like my honey pot?" Rocky and Cathy both said they might have thought she was faking it, secretly in on the joke, but the more they laughed the more serious and angry mom got.
On the other hand...
I once told the "Compendium" joke to my friend Jacques, whose dad was from Belgium. When I said "Germans have no sense of humor" Jacques replied "Of course Germans have a sense of humor! The elected Hitler dictator, didn't they?"
Sorry to bring Godwin into it, but those were his actual words and I found them funny at the time.

Not very good.
Once they started talking? They killed each other off.
Or maybe when the females started talking they did that.
:hmmm:
:D
Maybe the term "Your boreing me to death" started with them?

hmm ok you got me, i do not get what the above has to do with Neanderthals :hmmm:
But then, when i think what all those 'civilised' nations think and do about 'immigrants', i do not think Neanderthals would be welcomed today.
Maybe it was like that back then, and they hid away/died out because of that :yep:
I should have noted there was sub-discussion early on in this topic regarding the lack of a sense of humor among Germans... :)

But ... Sub discussions are off-Topic, in General topics :hmph:
German humor, can be said about, I spent months in the nineties in Germany, and have experienced many aspects of how Germans deal with their language ... and it's fun :)
