Well after being sick since Sunday I finally felt well enough to continue my current OM campaign. I was ordered to patrol the Mid-Atlantic convoy routes and while heading there my radar picked up something.(Oh i'm using Karle94's H-39 mod so this is more of a fun campaign then a serious one.) Well since it was in the middle of the Atlantic and was sailing alone I guessed it was one of the ocean greyhounds and boy was I right. After positioning the ship so it could give a full broadside I slowed down to 1x compression and waited. After 5 minutes what comes out of the early morning Atlantic fog? Why it's the Queen Mary steaming straight towards me at around 15 knots.(No clue why she wasn't doing her max like she was supposed to.) I wait until she starts to zig-zag before ordering the guns to open up on her and she soon goes down. I've been looking for one of the Queen's ever since I first downloaded OM and I finally got me one. I must say that i'm quite happy to have found her since they're quite rare to find

Thanks Dread Knot. Now I just need to get the Queen Elizabeth and the Aquitania and i'll have sunk the Cunard trio as I call them.

Yes, congrats on your 'Best of Subsim' badge, and on the sinking the Queen too, I guess. But, you know, the Allies will still win in the end. :O:

Thanks and while they will still win it will be that much harder. Oh and the sinking occurred after Torch landings for those wondering when it happened.(I had some fun with those landings also but that's another story.)

Well she may not have been a Queen but sinking an Empress will suffice. That's right I just finished a patrol where I got me the Empress of Britain which if i'm right was the only major Ocean liner lost on the allied side during the war.(I don't count the Normandie as she never got a chance to serve which was a real shame.)

Rgr that...the next largest was the RMS Lancastria at a little over 16,000 tons.

If you stay in that area you will find it very easy to find the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and the Aquitania as well as the Empress of Britain.
When I was running OM I think I sank each one of those vessels at least three times within the same mid Atlantic area.
I didn't get medals for it. I thought it was very strange how easy they are to sink with deck guns. I think it only took 20 rounds per ship and I would have thought they would have been escorted considering they used them for American supplies and troop transports.

Note the May 5, 1940 voyage. That would be a nice group to run into.

It was my understanding that Admiral King,( oft maligned) in overall charge of the American involvement in the Atlantic war, gave highest priority to troopship protection at the horrific expense of the merchant marine, otherwise. Any ships capable of sustaining 14 knots or better were permitted to travel without a convoy or escort and that would have included the great converted queens. Except for the Leopoldville and the Slapton Sands training fiasco(kept secret by Churchill) no real issues involving transport of troops ever materialized due to Uboats.

I've noticed that and after checking some coordinates I just figured out something, I've been sinking them while they were sailing around the same spot as the Titanic was sunk!
