Nothing. We stopped celebrating the commerce fest (which not so coincidently is at the same day as a Christian holiday) about 10 years ago.

Paying bills and keeping out of debt is more important to me than this commercial dribble. :yep:

You can buy gifts for people and still stay in the black as long as you set a budget and stick to it. Problems arise when you feel you have to spend far more than you can afford then get neck-deep in debt...
My wife said it's the thought that counts at christmas, so I thought about buying her a diamond necklace. Will she find this acceptable?

Most likely nada.
Santa didn't care for me eating one of his reindeer a few years back.:03:
That's OK, it's a commercialized load of hogwash these days.:hmmm:
If people celebrated the birth of Jesus properly, they'd be buying him gifts, instead of celebrating the pagan holiday that was transformed into the current debacle by the Romans.:88)

I think for most people just having health and happiness is sufficient but being with your family is a considerable bonus :sunny:
I bought myself a new 40mm f2.8 pancake lens for my camera. Other than that I've no idea.
Got tickets for the wife to see Lionel Richie in March.

You'll have to make do with a replica of a tiny urn...couldn't trust a penal colony to look after the real I am :)

I am not expecting any gifts, as I always tell people not to spend money on gifts for me.
I think it's far more important to spend the day, or just dinner, in the company of your loved ones, having a good time. Gifts are a poor substitute to love.
Incidentally, this is the same reason I usually keep very silent about my birthday. People go for gifts, which I think is a waste of money, when I value their company much more.
Commerce replaced human warmth with materialistic manifestations and consumerism.
I'm glad to see all you sub simmers have not lost perspective of what's important.

Lucky you! I'm on call 24/7 and the more so on the holidays; was on standby for Thanksgiving- but no calls; I don't figure to make between Xmas and new years uninterrupted though. One tech even griped 'he's gotta go out on a call if there's an officer available...and I'm always available!" Naturally there's no holiday contract pay! They do give me my Fridays though for sailing, so I've no complaints and it rounds out the Social Security stipend...and pays for tires! :yeah:

I didn't ask for much of anything this year, so out of the 3-4 things I asked for I'm expecting at least two and whatever I don't get I'll probably get it for my birthday. My list keeps getting shorter each year mainly because there's nothing that I really want, there are some things I need but I'm not going to ask for a bookcase for Christmas.
