Just wanted to drop in and say hello. I have been playing Silent Hunter 4 now for about 5 months. Wanted to give a big thanks to you hardcore simmers in here that have made all these fantastic instructional posts and the modders too.
I used to play Janes Hunter Killer way back when that first hit the shelves. I was a huge Jane's Sim fan. That lasted for quite a while. Than I bought SH3 and was pretty much hooked on that for a while. There were no mods for it back than.... well nothing to speak of like there is now.
Than I played IL2 Flight sim forever.... started to get the itch to get back in the ocean after I was making IL2 bombing missions (targets being ships and Subs in port).
So i got SH4 and downloaded TMO and RSRD. I never played the Vanilla version. I play with External Cam on and Mapupdates. That is all and i rarely use the external cam. Never use it for cheating.
My methods of attacks are primarily the constant bearing method and the Dick O'Kane fast slammer shot. That constant bearing method is wicked accurate way out from the target. I used to use it while the sub was not moving but came to the understanding subs could not do this. So I am practicing doing it while on the move. I like taking the 2000-3000 yard shots. And I love taking down destroyers. I am not too good at convoy attacks though. I always get spotted by destroyers. I need to learn how to slip past the screen.
I am a expert Destroyer killer while they are just running a scan pattern. And if there are only 1. And sub chasers never live to see another day. I use rear deck gun Only on the chasers. And I find it the best placement. I have taken out so many sub chasers using that deck gun. I also use the Tambor Class exclusively. As soon as the subchaser goes over my area i go fullspeed and blow ballast and just start pummeling 'em with the deck gun. I lost some sailors a few times doing this so I change my method to do it a lil bit farther away. They have horrible aim with them guns.
The Bag of tricks link is great. Rockin Robbins man you do nice job helping people out. Also I wanted to say you sound like a baseball announcer. Also I wanted to say in your video (you probably know this im sure by now) that your showing the sonar only attack and you lose the constant update from the sonar guy.... if you re-instructed him to follow nearest contact it would have started giving you instant updates on that black sonar tracking line. I noticed this when i was under a convoy getting DC'd . All the sonar lines would click every 10 seconds or so ... but when I gave orders to follow nearest warship that 1 line would update on the fly. All others were sporadic. And I also lose sonar contact when ships are at about 10 degrees off my bow?
I have a real problem using the TDC being "Active" I just cant get accurate shots using it. I have to use charts to hit ships. I cant judge AOB for the life of me just looking through the scope.
I just lost a game by saving by a port too. I was having a real nice career and could not get it to load. I know now don't save a game near a bunch of stuff.
Happy sailing mates!
