Bought it in Kindle. Currently reading 'Sniper on the eastern front', the most violent biography book I ever read. Going to read Peter Fitzsimons 'Batavia' as I live near where the most fascinating nautical story in history happened, Then I'll read this one. Love my kindle, allows me to read so much more than an I used too.

FWIW, I've never had a Kindle, either, but SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) has a Nook HD+ and can read Kindle stuff, too. She tells me (although I've got no clue about it) that both Nook and Kindle use considerably modified versions of Android O.S.
As part of a phone swap to replace a phone that I'd finally "repaired until it was broken", she ended up with a Samsung S-4 phone and I got a Samsung Tab3 7-inch tablet in a promo bundle. They're similarly equipped with Android.
Both devices came pre-loaded with a Kindle app that lets me log in with my Amazon account info, and I can shop for Kindle pubs that function and display fine.
I'll have to see if there's an executable for my PC, maybe one that works via Google Chrome, or something. Indeed, when I saw the OP here, I had her show me how to work it (some radio tech *I* am, huh? Sheesh....) and the first thing I did was download this eBook. Looks like fun.
I would have thought the tablet would be silent, but there was a low rumbling, not unlike crowd noises in a nearby crowd. That got fixed when SWMBO pointed out that I was moving my lips whilst reading...... I can speed-read about 1,400 wpm, so the hum of my lips was almost a buzz.

Toodles.

Hi there. Thanks for the head's up on Amazon Canada's price.

The Kindle version will work on any ereader as long as you have the Kindle app installed. I purchase Kindle books on my ipad with the Kindle app and it works just fine. Can't speak for the other ereaders, but I have been told that it will work as long as the Kindle app is installed on the device in question.

Hope that helps. Happy Reading!

Overtime question #5:
Why did the U-505 go to Chicago?

U-505 otherwise would be used as gunnery and torpedo target, but Father John Gallery contacted President Lenox Lohr of Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry and they already planned to display a submarine so U-505 was ideal for that. With donations of Chicago residents U-505 was transported to Chicago.
There in 1954 U-505 was dedicated as a permanent exhibit and a war memorial to all the sailors who lost their lives in the battle of the Atlantic.

(hopefully I didn't overlook something this time :O:)

Jimbuna
11-29-13, 11:56 AM
After the war, the Navy had no further use for U-505. She had been thoroughly examined in Bermuda, and was now moored derelict at the Portsmouth Navy Yard. It was decided to use her as a target for gunnery and torpedo practice until she sank.[23] In 1946, Gallery, now a rear admiral, told his brother Father John Gallery about this plan. Father John contacted President Lenox Lohr of Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) to see if they would be interested in U-505. MSI, established by Chicago businessman Julius Rosenwald, was a center for "industrial enlightenment" and public science education, specializing in interactive exhibits. As the museum already planned to display a submarine, the acquisition of U-505 seemed ideal. In September 1954, U-505 was donated to Chicago by the U.S. government, a public subscription among Chicago residents raised $250,000 for transporting and installing the boat. The vessel was towed by United States Coast Guard tugs and cutters through the Great Lakes, making a stop in Detroit, Michigan in the summer of 1954. On 25 September 1954, U-505 was dedicated as a permanent exhibit and a war memorial to all the sailors who lost their lives in the two Battles of the Atlantic.

Captain Daniel Gallery, the commander of group 22.3 who had planned and executed the capture of U 505, was an Illinois native and a considerable author in his own right. He proposed the rescue and display of the U-505 to the Museum where it resides today and rescued it from its intended doom as a stripped out target ship in Bermuda. It was towed up the St Lawrence and Great Lakes to its present location in Chicago in 1954 and is the only surviving IXC U-boat in existence today.:salute:Y bien venidos al Señor BIAMAKU(un poco tarde)!:Kaleun_Salute:

Haha, well as the European I am I always tend to choose for the metric units instead of the imperial units :D
(and for U-505 it probably also was 700m :O:)
but since it was an American ship I was speaking of, I will change it to 800 yards :03:

How about 1530 cubits? That predates both Metric and Imperial, I think, although it doesn't have an international standard sitting under glass in some lab in Paris :)
