I just completed my first patrol and sank 2 merchant ships. One britain and one sweden. But after I sank the one from sweden I found out they weren't listed as an ally until 1940. I sank them in 1939. I still got credit for the tonnage. On the way into port (at 1024X speed) I also ran into a german patrol boat :-?who promptly started shooting at me. I exited the game and hit return to port. I assume I lost renown for either of these or both. I am playing with GWX 3.0.

What month did you start? GWX lets you start on August 1, 1939. The war doesn't start until September 3. Between those dates everything is neutral.

If you go around sinking allied ships, they do get quite angry.

I don't think you can have negative renown. You can expect some negative result, though. :arrgh!:

I should have said I got negative renown for the patrol. -191.9 to be exact.

The answer lies in SilentHunterIII/Data/Cfg/basic.cfg:hmm2:

SH3 is scripted to subtract renown for sinking the wrong ship (neutral or friendly).

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
NEUTRAL=-1
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
WrongShipSunk=-5000
FirstRankRenown=1000
SecondRankRenown=3500
EndCampaign=-5000

You CAN edit that by removing the minus sign in front of the 1 for NEUTRAL.

Change it to: NEUTRAL=1

Now you can sink anything but an AXIS ship without penalty. Not very realistic, but what the heck; those darn neutrals are sailing in the convoy and have to take their chances like anyone else.:har:
