No 98T this time  Instead, a Lotus Exige 240 (that rolls like a mudball).

But the Laudamobile is nice, drives very nice and feels retro without being such a tempting invitation for suicide like the Lotus 49. Like a big kart.

AI I will report later.

The Exige 240 seems to handle fine. Haven't driven the other Lotus cars in a while though. :)

Tried the challenge on the small Silverstone circuit with the Lotus Exos 125 S1.

Gold 52s, Silver 53s, Bronze 54s.

Did about 30 laps or so in total, fastest I got was 53.011. So close! :damn:

Needed quite a lot of fiddling with the setup in between the laps.

Such a tight circuit in an insanely fast car. My left wrist aches a bit now.

58.6 for me, but I'm a bit rusty. And that penalty system. :/\\!!

The Laudamobile is a new love of mine, it really feels like a big big kart. Fun to handle, fun to drive, and very well-behaved.

The AI for some cars is very good now and already better than the AI I have seen in some final-state racing games of the past, I had marvelous races with Lotus 125, E30-DTM, E92 S3, and Laudamobile. Still there is room for tuning it even better.

However, the critical candidates like especially the F599 and F40 still are not tamed, the AI struggles with managing the instability these cars have when breaking sharply, and sharply accelerating, that causes still too many unpredictable swings by their tails and sudden lane-changes, and contacts. Here, Kunos still has one of its biggest construction sites. Since I do not like these cars too much anyway, I am not overly concerned, though.

Collisions in general have been massively toned down both in intensity and effect, and numbers.

The new sky and clouds indeed look nicier than what was there before.

Anything else to add to the discussion? Have you actually played AC or are you so far up PCars exhaust pipe you can't see anything else? :hmm2:

Quickfix released, 19 MB. That was fast!

So far no readme.

Herr Berbunch, don't feed him! ;) For such debates, there is the steam forums (that I have learned to avoid). In the tankforum, he has linked tanksim realism to looks, calling an action tank game a realistic sim because it looked nice to him. Shows what he is looking for in a "simulation". Here he does the same with PC and AC. Nothing wrong in his playing taste and game preferences, I only wish that people would not call action games "simulations". iR, rF2 and AC, are a very different kind of racing titles, than GT and PC are.

Earlier on Saturday, another quickfix was released.

Gentlemen, our status now is 0.82.

-Default launcher theme: results screen will not automatically display if no laps were output by the sim.
-Default launcher theme: starting position display for special event quickraces updated in summary.
-Controls configuration: allow sharing of buttons between sequential gears and H-shifter in manual assignment.
-Clouds culling improved.

Race Weekend - mmh, yum-yum!

Skybird

There have been another two small updates since Friday.

The new cars handle very nicely, with the Evora GTC being very pointy and fast, the Evora GX is my new darling car, it handles like a dream, like the 458 in style - but better. It's not just another two more Lotus cars - these two are real star-class cars, believe it! Finally two Lotus cars that feel and handle like by the sound of the word "Lotus" they should. :D Real track weapons, with good handling.

The fiurther tuning of the AI has poushed AC's AI generally to a lewvel where now I would sday we start to enter the relam of competitveness, indeed on some trcks and with some cars the aI now already is mucz better than most contesters. When switching off fuel use, quoick races can be as long as 30 laps now, and I had 15- and 20 lap races and today my first 30-lapper with mixed fields of GT class cars - especially at Imola, it was a blast (AI 95%, defualt setups), and without technical problems. In other tracks inside lanes of turns often get too little defended, other turns are approached too cautiously, and braking points sometimes are too early, but all in all the AI really does a very good job by now - many titles in finished status have worse AI. They are on a very good way there. Even the critical cars like the F40 and F599 now can be used in races, the AI still struggles to handle them with the same competence like the McLarens or BMWs, but the worst amok-style behavior has gone.

No word on whether Easter will delay the next update by a week or not. Also, no rumours on any Easter presents.

I have almost 8 GB in skins downloaded now. :o

Next update will feature multiplayer, they say, but 25th April is a national holiday in Italy, end of fascist regime and all that, and public life and business life is seriously off common tracks. So since MP relies on best possible support from the server infrastructure and since they want to provide best possible support during the introduction phase of MP, and since both cannot be guaranteed during that holiday, they have delayed the next upgrade from tomorrow to next week's Friday.

On a sidenote, the UN-logo on the helmets for the KTM flag-skins ha ve been removed and replaced with a neutral scheme based on the national flag's base colours. Much better! :D

"Dear AC followers,
we are encountering an unknown and unpredictable issue that causes random crashes with single-player race events, probably due to some additional implementations that single-player thread shares with the multiplayer build. We are working to identify the cause and to solve it, but we can't commit the new build within today. We apologise for this inconvenient, we'll keep you informed as soon as our development team will be able to make the new build available, hopefully within tomorrow.

First, a new community-made trailer, nice work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx7z0o7-aVc

And now, a quantum solace for yesterday's disappointed! :) I learned that modders already have started to do tracks, although not even the mod tools have been released completely. At racedepartment, I found severlatracks, which represen t playable but very early stages of work, with little or no trackside scenery. These tracks really only are for giving you a change form the usual steering patterns, because by now everybody should know the AC tracks inside out. With only two exceptions I doubt that one will stay too long with them, but for a chaunge until they start to release the real good mod stuff: okay.

AC Tracks | RaceDepartment Forums (http://www.racedepartment.com/forum/resources/categories/ac-tracks.8/)

Desert Road - the worst of them all, currently, not even playable, after some hundred meters you fall into a deep deep hole in the world, and that's it. this one you can miss.

Dorifto Mountain - A solid fun track! Probbaly meant to be driven in an extremely drifting style, this is a long, winding mountain track in a scenery like a golf ressort. There aqre only tress scattered around, but it doesn't matter, I actually enjoyed this track surprisingly much, and there are quite some nasty corners in it. Don't miss this one!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1Y-OICOFFE

Laguna Seca - The other track that is already in an advanced (though anything but finished) state, a port from rF, I think, with quite some scenery objects. Nice, for the time being you want this one!

Philip Island - Very early stage, almost no scenery objects, just some turn indicators, you can drive it, but after some runs it gets boring.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch-KXG7oyAY

Top Gear Test Track - Some people seem to have demanded this one quite much, and I read earlier that the track even is based on laser scanned data. The scenery is still poor, but the track layout seems to be precise, extremely. If you want to outperform the times of the Stig, here is your chance. Personally, I don't see much point in this track, but that is my taste.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhAVfEGgRe8

Willow Springs - A fast winding track in a hilly desert setting, little, almost noscenery, but fully drivable. For some time okay, but we soon will see more complete tracks.

At youtube I saw one author doing laps on an early alpha layout of Montreal, but that track seems to be not available still.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAZJ39F_wcY

Also at youtube you can find a track spelled "Rivijera" (yes, spelled like that), which is a longer coastal public road upwards, and back home the same distanbce is run in one straight line, for 30-45 seconds at max speed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaNHZgCTefc

Of the listed tracks, Dorifto Mnt. and Laguna Seca really should be tried out, the others are for the curious only.

If anything goes well, 0.9 today.

:) That should serve well until autumn this year!

And the mod tools for track designing are not even released. I forsee plenty of tracks once the mod tools are out. :yeah:

The conversion of the Norschleife from rF to AC is available!

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/released-nordschleife-the-ring-2007-0-7-alpha.9159/

There are two versions.

Version 0.7 features tree-cards that are erratic of course, the author has not solved the underlying issue (mind you, those guys mod without official modding tools released!).

Version 0.8 has all those card trees deleted.

It means basic AC physics on Nordschleife with not fully implemented correct surface interaction . But I drove it, and it already drives wellllll !

A welcomed provisional solution until the official Kunos tracks comes out in autumn. And a change from those still few tracks that by now everybody really knows INSIDE OUT.

Skybird
05-06-14, 10:42 AM
Several versions of the before mentioned Nordschleife port have been released in short order, and the main bugs with the trees are solved. Ladies and gentlemen, we now have a playable, functional Nordschleife in Assetto Corsa! Ported from an old rF mod, legally, there are some compromises that have to be accepted, though. Certain parameters and surface definitions from rF could not have been carried over, that is why grass and tarmac feel the same, many barriers still are not solid but cosmetic only, and the visual environment looks like a construction site. The track itself also is more bumpy than it probably is in reality, using a car with good and soft suspension is recommended, I had good experiences with the XBow and the M3 E92, while the Lotus 2-Eleven I would not recommend for this track. Some visual holes in the track - but I could drive over them without falling through.

Nevertheless, beside all compromises needed - this now is my Nordschleife of choice to drive on, until autumn - it is the cars of AC that make the difference to the visually better Nord mods for other sims out there. Enjoy, and don't forget to thank the modders making this possible WITHOUT OFFICiAL MOD TOOLS RELEASED! Community modders have written the used blender tools themselves!

The MP update is currently rolling out. People are downloading, no news right now on any possible readme.

Myself, I'll wait with downloading until the night, to wait for first feedback on whether it kills SP again or not (this bug being the reason for the delay last week).

There are multiple feedback reports from players that all mod tracks currently do not work after upgrading to 0.9.

If MP is not so interesting for you, but some mod tracks are, I recommend to pass on 0.9 for the time being, sit still and wait for the dust settling.

A mod track that I already like very much, is Zolder 1.1, available at racedepartment. It has a nice scenery in the woods, and a very unique atmopshere. One starts to wonder how it will look once they can do trees and all that with the official tools.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOYdOMjDv-8

The sound mod used in that, is a question of taste -mine it is not.

Here is a Ferrari 599 at modded Laguna Seca.

And a full lap in the F40 on the modded Nordschleife 0.9

Mind you again - all these tracks are modded tracks that have been improvised without official tools by Kunos being released.

One of my most wanted tracks.

Edit. Very impressive, a perfectly smooth ride. Textures on gras and tarmac are missing (just plain green and grey), but architecture of track surroundings are smoothness of tracks make this the best modded track so far in AC - easily. :yeah:

A video on Snoopy's Nord 0.5, multi player.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV6uaBhybew#t=154

Looks cool, or not? :) Since today, there is AI competition on that track as well, though the AI really fights with some turns on that track. :) Did a 12 car drive just two hours ago.

AC now is version 0.9.10. AI still gets tuned, it is currently slower than before, but more vivid, agile, alive. More balancing needed, but generally improving. Multiplayer got updated almost daily, and several times a day since Friday.

Next major update will be Friday 23rd, Kunos announced, with "finalising of multiplayer" aimed for in that.

AC is now at version 0.9.13.

Since one week I have not driven any other track than Snoopy's 0.5 version of the Nordschleife. With an AI-line app it was possible to add AI traffic to it. What else do you need if you can have the Nord? I think Kunos massively underestimated the attraction of it. :D This mod is unfinished, and an improvised interim solution done with improvised tools. It is still unbelievable what Snoopy has done there, and how well it drives and how decent it looks.

The Zolder track I mentioned earlier, showed to be an illegal port. It has been withdrawn by demand of the original author from which it was stolen. For other mod tracks, namely Suzuka, the mentioned AI-app allows implementation of AI traffic as well.

Next major update still scheduled for this Friday, 23rd.

Some action from and on the Nordschleife 0.5 (Snoopy):

Two good updates news today:

Snoopy has almost doubled the size of his Nordschleife which is now v0.6.2. Many tracksid eobjects have been added, work oin the surface has been done.

Assetto Corsa got its regular update to version 0.10, with focus on improving multiplayer things and AI (remarkably small this time: 16 MB). No car or track content, but that was not to be expected. And with the Nordschleife by Snoopy I do not use any other track currently anyway. :)

0.10
- SERVER UPDATED : using a new protocol, please update your servers
- Chat anti-flood
- Anti-cheating system implemented
- Kick user, Restart session, Skip session voting system implemented
- Chat python functions exposed
- Multiplayer Collisions improvements
- Some CPU performance improvements
- UI improvements
- Race control panel in pits menu
- AI Fixes
- Added "display recently joined servers" filter to server list
- Default launcher theme: extra sanitization for URI-unfriendly characters in content folder paths

I myself have released a small and completely unspectacular colourpack (mono colours) for the Ferrari F40. It increases the default red, black and white by eight more colours to chose from: light and medium blue, light and medium green, crema, orange-yellow, violet, yellow. AC is status 0.10.2 currently, and Snoopy's Nordschleife is 0.9.2. I donated him some coins for his great job. Racing the Huayra at the Schleife, is madness, and doing so in a field of 14 cars - yes, I can run that - with dogfighting the guys in front of you and in your neck, is even better.

Many other track conversions have been released in the past days, some of them already surprisingly good, others not so much. Three or four tzracks also have been banned already, having been illegal conversions without permission, or pirated stuff from copyrighted commercial material. Not so nice news.

Kunos team gave word a week ago that quickest possible release of official development tools for modders now is a priority, I think they good a little bit overrolled by the speed the improvised tools for track making by the community led to this recent flood of track releases. A date has not been given, though. This Friday should be another normal update day, I would expect, as scheduled. I could imagine that especially Snoopy's Nordschleife project has caught their full attention.

Snoopy Nordschleife 0.9.3 is out.

Look out for Montreal, which is currently in version 0.3 and is development from scratch. The author takes his time and puts great attention to detail and realism into it. Scenery is very rudimentary, but the track already is fully designed and has a highly realistically-feeling flow. This could become the next big thing after Snoopy's Nordschleife.

With the expected release of developer tool this Friday, things can only become better.

Modders say that AC is far more easier and uncomplicated to be modded, than rF2. Snoopy'S track is basing on an original mod for rF2. In AC, it looks miles better.

Update 0.15 has arrived today. A minor update doing subtle stuff on FFB, physics. Planned major chnages in rendering engine and network code did not make it into this release.

The track editor has arrived, however. Car editor will follow later, since it is more complicated to handle, they say.

The latest update, which meanwhile got followed by two hotfixes, may not have sounded spectacular, but the change sit did to physics, especially tyres, and FFB, have been anything but "subtle", I meanwhile found out. The cars have been improved regarding the dynamic interaction between tyre and tarmac, I do not know how to put it in better fitting words. The racing lines everybody got used to, do not work that well anymore like before, the old braking habuts and lines are too daring and will often send you off the track. The cars feel even more more believable now, though driving them has become slightly more difficult, I found.

Also, AI has seen some robust improvement, too. They are not yet there, but the general pace of the AI has been beefed up. At slow speeds, and in some corners, the AI still needs pore polishing before it shines, but at 95-96% difficulty it really gives you some challenge for your money, if you are no alien.

Kunos team member Simone Trevisiol confirmed via Twitter on June 9th that now work on their Nordschleife has officially started. I think that means the point data from the scanning process has been obtained, and they now sit in their offices and wonder what to do with those many points. :)

Rumour says they did not do the scan themselves, but bought the data from a company specialising in laserscanning.

version now is 0.20.2.

With the car and the track editors now released, modding has come to full gear now. With many controversial - because illegal - track conversions done, hopefully now more quality tracks will come to life as well. Kunos is willing to give permission for oports from netKart tracks to AC, and some of thes etracks already has been released - and indeed are good! Others have started to manually design from scratch new tracks, with several promising projects currently going. The future looks extrmenely rosy there. I personally am in love with the Wildfire track that copies the original that was shgut down already in the 90s, I think, it just drives so very damn well, a small little game that is easy to miss, but it would be a shame. With skinning having come to a low since two weeks, I wonder what the car editors now will do withg the release of official car tools, many car models have been announced and are in developement since longer time now.

The modding activity has left behind that in the rF2 world already, and by a huge margin. It has been said that AC offers a far more developing anbd modding-friendly environment, than rF2.

A complete new sound engine will come, originally not planned, Kunos it seems saw the need to give answers to some sound developments in rivalling products like Forza and PC.

I think that the release of editors this early was not planned by them and has brought their timetable in disorder.

And Snoopy, well, he has completely redone the mesh and track design of the Nordschleife where it was varying to much from reality before, the version now is 0.9.8, and is argued by many to be the best Nordschleife there ever has been in simulation racing. Many of the too excessive climbs and turns have been corrected, with the track no longer suffering from narrowing on these parts as in his first correction attempt with 0.9.4

So much good track stuff for this sim out there already. Unbelievable!

:yeah: AC rules.

Also, there is news. Kunos is hiring additional staff, and plan major graphical changes implemented soon, also, the update for next Friday, July 4th, seems to be postponed, instead they announce the following for an update on July 18th:

Hello AC followers,
gradually we are getting closer to the release candidate version of Assetto Corsa: the next update should already include some changes to the graphics engine that will allow us to test the overall compatibility, although you might not see any new effects until the new algorithms will prove to be stable. More details will follow soon.
The next update of Assetto Corsa Early Access is scheduled for 18th July and it should include the long awaited Lotus 98T. As already known, Assetto Corsa AI, utilizes the same physics model used by the player. With more than 1000 horse power and tons of downforce produced by this amazing grand prix car, the AI finds it very challenging keeping a proper racing line. The reasons will be clear to you too, when you will try staying on track while driving this unbelievably fast and “raw” racing car. We are working to improve AI interactions and hopefully we'll be able to include the Lotus 98T in next update and include AI enhancements to the sim.
A big "thank you" to all those people who join the Early Access program every day. You help us to constantly improve Assetto Corsa : Your support is amazing and we really want to thank you, so we are investing in new content, new licenses and even more importantly, new people, hiring developers able to cover strategic positions in our company that will allow us KUNOS Simulazioni and Assetto Corsa, grow stronger and more efficient and capable.

https://www.facebook.com/Assetto.Corsa/posts/912133992146253?notif_t=notify_me&_fb_noscript=1

When I first time heard that only one single guy in their team does all the track creation stuff, I thought that was crazy and my first idea was: you need to hire.

The news also indicates that the success of AC seems to be commercially healthy for them, and ongoing.

Already some time ago they indicated that they have obtained new car licenses. When reading that, at that time the brands still were kept secret.

And for the third time: summer sale at Steam, get AC for 17:49 Euros currently! Runs for two days. The sale, not the game. :D

Edit - P.S. :

Alfa Romeo, it is announced:

Alfa Romeo is one of the most popular brands in the world and it represents, as well as Ferrari, a symbol of the automotive history .
It is also one of the most wanted car brands for racing games: each time we announce a new license, Assetto Corsa enthusiasts ask us to include Alfa Romeo car models in the game.
As you might remember, in our recent poll we asked to gamers which car Brands they would like to get in Assetto Corsa in future: we did it with the aim to drive our investment decisions in the right way. Alfa Romeo has resulted as one of the most voted brands: so, we are very glad to announce that Alfa Romeo has been officially licensed for the racing game Assetto Corsa! In addition, at least one Alfa Romeo car model will be included in the 1.0 version of the game, we are pretty sure you will appreciate this addition, that will be provided for free.
We are pleased to announce that the three top-voted by the public have been confirmed for production, to delight of fans:
Alfa Romeo 4C
Alfa Romeo GTA
Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI
Other Alfa Romeo models will be unveiled soon. We'll be happy to share with our fans the making of this beatiful italian cars that will be reproduced with the maximum fidelity
in order to guarantee the best possible accuracy of physics and tactility of feeling.

I did quite some tests now with the new update 0.20.5.

AI once again has been finetuned, polished, and it is a fine kit by now, although now it could need a little more teeth. Although having tested it in I assume 15 or more 3 round races on both default and mod tracks, I have not had a single incident of AI cars ignoring me and blindly crashing into me as if I were not there. Racing with three, even four wide (!) is possible, and has happened. This is no more just an improvised solution - it now starts to shine. They said that tuning it is still long from being finished. I had very good results even with super-fast, former critical cars like the Huayara or F40. No more need for me to shy away from them, same is true for the Lotus formula car. Now that I write this I remember that i have not tested the F599 so far, though. Will need to do that. I just dont like that car, it looks so ugly and sounds so dirty.

To my surprise, the physics have seen quite some changes as well, one of the last things where I would have seen a need to do major changes. Cars are more slippery now, and back wheels loose traction easier during braking and acceleration, even with ABS and TC on. More understeering, less driving like on rails. I cannot say I like it better or worse, but I say you definitely have to adapt your driving to this new physics model.

On onöline I can say nothing, I do not do it. I read that many people complain about the booking method and hope it gets completely replaced, also many drivers say they stay away from online since too many maniacs mess up almost every race. Well, I know why I put so high priority on a solid AI.

With all official modding tools for car and track development released. modding is in fully swing by now and activity is spiking extremely high. Tracks, skins, cars, sounds, apps - it currently all is going with tremendous diversity and growing quality. Just a couple of days ago, the first from-scratch car, a Corvette Daytona, has been released as a Beta, still not finished, but already giving a glimpse at things to come. Tracks are a mixed bag, with many illegal and cheap conversions first having flooded the market, but increasingly loosing ground now to quality projects that get done form scratch. I now have 60 tracks in my folder, and already have deleted the too lousy ones. Some of those no doubt are ilegal, the problem is that if you do not each and every other simulator there is and know very weel what mods and copyrighted ciontent they inbclude,k it is extremely diffiuclt to recongise i advance - befor downloading - wheter the material is priated and copiued without permission, or not. Kunos also gave the permission on several tracks from netKart Pro beign converted, and Aoste, Prato and Newbury already are out and indeed are very good conversions, visually. There are many very enjoyable from-scratch and legally ported tracks as well, and currently ongoing projects. AFAIK a legal port has been done of the old Autumn Ring from Gran Turismo, my most liokey track in that old game. It still is very much fun in AC, don't miss it.

AFAIK legal tracks that by now I would consider worthy contributions to your track collection, are these:

Albertpark
Aoste
Autumn Ring
Brno (fantastic flow!)
Donington
Doriftomountaion (drift)
Dragon Range (drift course, wonderful)
Hungaroring
Interlagos
Jalicircuit
Le Mans
Newbury
Prato
Westwood (easy to underestimate, but a hidden gem to drive!)

There are some more, but I have doubts on their legality or know that they have been done illegally, and so I do not list them.

In development and very promising currently are Montreal (track layout already drives great), and Zandvoort (one of my most wanted).

And Snoopy has reached level 0.9.8 with his Nordschleife, having eased out some of the too obvious distortions in some turns and climbs. Still considered by many as the best modded track so far. Great stuff! Fly on it with a group of Huayras! It's a completely new game that way.

It is hilarious how much fun the Huayra is. :yeah:

Next update scheduled for July 18th, hopefully with first visible stuff from new graphics engine, maybe even sound (which gets completely redone as well).

I have a little voice in my head telling me that Kunos by now are overrolled by the size their baby has grown to, and are hopelessly beyond their release timetables. In this case this is positive news! They keep licensing new car brands, and have not yet revealed some more deals already signed.

The F599XX gets handled acceptable by the AI now. I tested it on three tracks, all mod tracks, but still.

I assume the reason behind the delay of the Lotus formula one car is that the AI had to be brought into a shape where it could handle that raw power beast. The F599 already is a brutal thing, and in past months the AI could not deal well with it - how much less it would have been able to get along with a turbo-charged 1000+ PS car?

Several car mods have been released until today. Not all of them are said to be polished, and since AC still is EA, they necessarily cannot be any more complete than the default cars done by Kunos so far. But this one, the Shelby Cobra, is one of the most advanced done by modders so far. It looks sweet, and I can tell you it has a handling that feels as sweet and unique as well! I seems to be a conversion of the Cobra for rFactor - done by the original author again.

Don'T forget to switch off TC and ABS!

The pack takes over 2 GB on the HD, and features different standard and dedicated racing skins. The download is significantly smaller, so don't get nervous.

Track is GP200, also a mod project, and it has a really nice flow and a nice visual mood. Again it is the original author of the rFactor version who has converted it for AC.

The car is a challenge, but extreme fun - more unpredictable than the F40 without TC and ABS. But fun!

Especially 0.15 early June brought changes, but physics, like AI, get constantly finetuned. The full physics engine I think is not even fully implemented so far, especially regarding tires I think there is more to come.

Update v0.21.2 has rolled out today, plus two hotfixes already.

There is the Lotus 98T 800hp turbo-charged raw brutal power speed beast. It is already a challenge to keep that monster on the track, not to mention driving it competitively. The AI so far is unable tzo handle it - two of three cars burn their turbos alreeady in seocnd lap in Monza (the beast has adjustable turbo pressure)

In parts new graphics features already shine, most visibly the improvement of contrast issues in HDR.

There is new MP stuff and options to join without the very much unloved booking system.

Next update is scheduled for August 29th. They also said that Spa-Francorchamps is as good as finished, and that release of v1.0 is in realistic range. They also announced to reveal more license surprise, and that their teams has grown by hired staff, since the EA program showed to be an incredible success.

Dear AC followers,

we are glad to introduce you to the0.21 release of Assetto Corsa on Steam Early Access. This version introduces some heavy upgrades and new features that represent a step ahead going to the 1.0 release.

New content: Classic Team Lotus Type 98T
Finally this awesome car is available in the Assetto Corsa's garage: the legendary single seater with which Ayrton Senna has wrote some of the most beatiful pages in the motorsport history is waiting for you: equipped with a small 1.5litres engine that represents the peak of the legendary turbo era, producing over 800bhp at race boost of around 3.5bar and more than 1200bhp at qualifying trim and over 5bar turbo boost! The downforce generated by the big wings and massive diffuser is even more than what modern F1 cars are capable of. Nevertheless, the extreme pitch sensitivity, stalling issues of the diffuser and unbelievably exponential power delivery of the twin turbo's, will challenge your skills not only to try and go fast with this car, but to actually keep it on track! Just a single lap will make you understand why there was just one man on the planet, capable of driving this monster close to its limits and on to pole position!

New Multiplayer
We have worked very hard to improve the multiplayer routines: we have recognized that some of the limits of the previous netcode didn't allow gamers to get the maximum satisfaction, in particular when some gamers was performing high ping values. We are glad to announce that the netcode of the new version doesn't represent an improvement of the previous one, but it has been rewrote from scratch. The results of our private betatesting gave us an excellent feedback, and we are confident you will get a very improved multiplayer experience. Please notice that this new version, Assetto Corsa requires increased server bandwidth. Professional dedicated servers shouldn't have any problems at all, but users that wish to host session on their local home connection, should start with a very low client number and slowly raise the number until they find the limits of their connection.
The following bandwidth requirements are a conservative guideline, your results may vary:

Clients = Kilobytes /sec upstream

5 = 23KB/s
8 = 66KB/s
10 = 106KB/s
15 = 247KB/s
20 = 448KB/s25 = 708KB/s
30 = 1026KB/s

New Multiplayer features
New multiplayer mode without booking request. The number of servers and users wishing to easily join pickup servers has caught us by surprise. We never immagined such a big success of casual multiplayer sessions with Assetto Corsa. As such, it was evident that the actual booking system, specifically thought for leagues and organized racing, was not doing a good job. We’re introducing a new “pickup” multiplayer mode without booking sessions.
The new “pickup” system, permits a server to be configured without booking sessions. An entry list must be configured properly, with only the cars that will be present in the server.
Clients can filter from the UI and search just for non booking servers. Then simply select a car and join the server at whatever session (practice, qualifying or race), at any time as many times as they wish.
At the current state the “pickup” system does not permit a specific skin selection from the client and we’re pretty sure that needs more testing in order to iron out possible bugs. Please help us by pointing out bugs at our official support forums. We are looking to have multiple hotfixes during the following week, in order to deliver a stable version for August vacations.

AI
Working on the Lotus Type 98T, we have had also the chance to analyze some issues related to the stability of some of the most performing cars that feature a active aero system: the Lotus Type 98T produces very high drag and downforce values, that change costantly and dynamically with pitch, speed and throttle position. All of that, together with the incredible power and speed that this car is capable of, resulted in multiple critical situations for our AI. The new AI improvements, not only manages to mantain the Lotus 98T on track, but also improve the AI behaviour of the other cars. More improvements are on the way, following optimizations of the new code.

Graphics engine
As anticipated some weeks ago, this build performs some new graphics libraries: you will notice some improved post-processing effects, including DOF (depth of field), bloom, tone mapping, FXAA and more. There are some additional features included in the graphics option menu that will allow users to choose different scenarios. This version does not include most of the effects that will be included in future and that will represent a huge step ahead: before to introduce other features, we want to be sure about stability and performance of this upgrade.

Next updates
As always, we'll monitor all the forum activities in order to find and resolve eventual issues and bugsthat might show up, due to the numerous new features included in this update. We will provide if needed, multiple hotfixes and feature updates in the following days. The next main build is expected to be released on Friday, 29th of August
General news
The implementation of FMOD is going well: as soon as we will be able to provide a comparison video between the current version and the new build featuring FMOD, we'll show you the benefits of this upgrade: this step represents a huge challenge, because it requires a total conversion of old samples and the creation of new ones. Also, new effects will be included in order to create an immersive sound environment that can guarantee an immersive experience. We believe that the final result is well worth the investment requested.

The modeling of Spa-Francorchamps has been almost completed: as you might know, this track will be included in the 1.0 version of Assetto Corsa (and this might suggest you that 1.0 version isn't too far). During this summer we will release some videos and pictures that will give you an idea of what to expect from this awesome and legendary circuit.

Considering the time involved to schedule and manage the production of new contents, we are working in advance to provide you tons of new contents even after 1.0 release, with new car brands licensed and models to be unveiled soon. We recognize that trying to stay focused on the development of the main build and on some new activities, we haven't shared enough work in progress pics and videos for a while: don't worry, we'll surprise you again. Stay tuned on www.facebook.com/Assetto.corsa (http://www.facebook.com/Assetto.corsa) to discover all the incoming news!

The Early Access program has been very successful, exceeding our expectations, and it's about to end. Thanks to this results, KUNOS Simulazioni has welcomed some additional programmers and graphics modellers that are already involved in current and future productions, thanks to their experience matured working on AAA games. We are grateful of the amazing response of the community towards Assetto Corsa and we try our best to give you the best racing game we are able to make. Thank you very much for your incredible support: see you on track!

Regarding modded tracks, some beautiful stuff has been released so far. I recommended some tracks already on the last page (some of which got updates since then, so check them out again), and I add these to the list, to my best knowledge they are confirmed to have been done as legal conversions or developement from scratch.

- Blackwood
- Brands Hatch International + Indy (a new project, do not mistake with the illegal first port, these are much better anyway)
- Longford '67
- GP200
- Gentrack 1 (one of my favourites)
- Tsukuba
- Virginia (Paul Newman's most favourite track, very nicely done)
- Fuji Speedway
- Road America (also a new project, much better than the illegal fast rip0 that emerged some weeks ago)

Zaandvort looks promising, but still is under development (I already drove it).

Several very interesting portation projects from RBR have gotten permission by their authors, and are under way.

AC currently is probably the most mod activity-attracting racing sim on the market. Some of the most favoured mod projects from the very active rF community have been announced to have gotten green lights for being ported to AC as well. In two cases, the whole rF mod group turned to the new flag. :D

I just compared the Lotus 98T with different turbo charger settings.

It's a beast already with turbo at 50-60%, which would be maximum for racing endurance, resulting in around 800 hp.

But at 100%, which would be done for qualifying, before the engine is eaten up, you get around 1300 hp. INSANE! :D The thing flashes through the air like a Blitz while rocking like a bronco on hot coals. The steering wheel ran amok, I swear it tried to slay me.

Insane. I mean it! :haha:

More testing, and the more I test it, the more I like this package.

The general graphics engine is in the process of being changed, part of that is the new settings and effects. No longer are the contrasts in HDR so huge that in some instances world details whites-out, in other blacks-out, especially inside car. Also, the DOF effects (deoth of field), which looked very much like dull blurr effects, now can be left switched off with HDR still on. All in all it makes for a much better visual appearance. Namely the vegetation now has more juicy, crispy, darker appearances.

the other detail i would mention here, is a real biggy-big fun-bringer. The track condition. You now can choose in what state the track should be, from perfctly clean, offering the maximum of grip from beginning on, to very dusty, and racing lines cleaning only slowly. I learned to love the dusty tracks. It is much more difficult to drive, and traction looses a felt 50% or so :), and you should not expect to race the same timers like in good or perfect track conditions - but wowh, how much fun it is! Even with TC on, cars swing and sway, braking distances make you jubilee when you made it just at the last meter, and you can almost dance on the track like a figure skater on ice. Wonderful!

I thought it was about completing feature lists only, and that was somehow a sterile task after some months. But the sim still gets better and better in quality and dynamics, it is incredible. The AI has been a step backwards recently, but that cannot kill the joy to just sit on your horse, and ride...!

This has become by now one of the very best PC simulation games I ever had the pleasure to deal with in the past 30 years. I rank it on my personal alltime favourites list alongside classics like Falcon 4, Steal Beasts Pro, or Skyrim.

This evening I will do the Nordschleife with dusty track conditions, in the Shelby Cobra and then the F40. I expect my grin will split my face wide from left to right. :D

I was >< that close to getting Gold on "Quick One".. 52.180, Gold is 52s. :damn:

The new "apps" or whatever they're called are quite nice, I used the "Wings" app to see the downforce in numbers.

I lowered the car a bit more and it gave a tiny bit more downforce. I did a constant speed comparison at 200kph to compare difference in ride height.

Yes, some of those addon tracks are really nice, both regarding visuals and feel. Of those I listed, none really is a weak thing, and some are very shining.

Of those projects under developement, I also put high hopes into Montreal, and Magny Courts, but some RBR conversions seem to be underway, too, I mean those addon tracks for RBR. And of course those Kunos tracks still not released. I assume they hold back content by now, to have a little firework package at their hands to celebrate the release of 1.0. With some luck, maybe we are done in early autumn. I think the longer part of the Early Access program already is behind us.

Of the new tracks that have been release din past days and are eithe röregalö con versions or were done from scratch, I recommend to try out

- Salzburgring
- Magny Cours
- Yas Marina Circuit,

with the Austrian facilities looking extremely sweet and driving wonderfully, and Magny Cours, although maybe seeing more updates, already in first release has left many other finished tracks behind it. Yas Marina reminds me of that utopic city track in NFS4, how was it called - Aquatica City, or something like that.

Several more pirated contents have been released as well, too, unfortunately. Damn thieves. I do not list them of course. Where you ever read me mentioning an item that got stolen or done illegally, you can safely assume that I mentioned it without knowing its history. In that case correct me, please.

I hate thieves.

A new from-scratch version of Donington is being done, screenshots I saw looked extremely good. Several of the tracks I listed above and before, meanwhile got updates as well, so recheck for these. The Donington we already have, is fully competitive a track and great challenge already, but the new projects adds the looks to it.

Let me direct your attention to two new track releases that previously were only available as illegal and quick conversions by some stealing morons who both even said thy do not care for pirating stuff.

First new track is the now authorized converiso of "Algarve", which really rides like a rollercoaster :) due to the steep climbs and dives.

The second is the new and also full authorized conversion of "Suzuka" named Suzuka 0.9, and this one is one of the best tracks out there so far, a real beauty wo loook at, and driving extremely well. It also is another one of my five most wanted tracks. I can only recommend to get this one, its so much fun.

And the Transfagarasan, not only is somebody doing it from scratch, another guy also has almost cpompletred the rF1 version of it, an authorized port it is. It seems both tracks are different parts of the route, the Nothern and the Southern routes, as they call it, so sooner or later the whole track will be available in all completeness.

I have gone deep into the new physics that had seen several changes over the past releases, and I like it very much, also the different track conditions you can now choose from are a very worthy addon to the sim. Some really first-class looking car mods already are out as well, some Nissan, a Corvette, and the already known Spider anyway.

Actual version is 0.21.13

I just tried the car mod for the Corvette C6R, version 5 as beta 2.

I can only say: this car is extremely great fun to drive! I did 6 rounds with it at Brno, and another 6 rounds at Silverstone, the they got the balance between grip and sliding extremely well. I have no idea whether it is realistic, but it sure is one of the most pleasant cars you can currently rive in AC. TC has just one setting (on-off, that means), but even with TC on you can hget the car to slide and to oversteer - but in such a wellbehaved and easy-to-control mode that the driver really has to push extremely to overdo things and spin off the track .

I love it. New darling car of mine.

The model also looks nice already, and the interior is very solid, maybe not the most polished cockpit in AC, but far from being just an improvised temporary solution.

Also: great sound! Sounds different from any car in AC.

Dear AC followers,
We are pleased to introduce RSR Nurburg, new official partner of Assetto Corsa.
Working at the Nurburgring for the last 15 years, RSR Nurburg features a team of instructors and drivers among the best in the world, together with two permanent workshops and offices, one at the Nurburgring and one at Spa Francorchamps, also base of the Official Driving Academy of the Circuit of Spa Francorchamps.
This partnership will develop on different ways:
Nurburgring Nordschleife - As you already know, Assetto Corsa development team is working hard to reproduce the legendary Nordschleife circuit. The use of laserscan technology allows precision measurements down to less than a centimetre, guaranteeing unprecedented results in terms of realism and fidelity in the dynamic behaviour of our simulated vehicles.
An equally important aspect of driving on a race track is the extensive use of reference points used by experienced drivers to use 100% of the track: RSR Nurbug's instructors have an extensive knowledge of the track layout and reference points and will co- operate with the development team to include all the visual and geographical reference points used by local drivers to assure the highest possible level of realism: thanks to this co-operation Assetto Corsa will be an invaluable tool to learn and master the most dangerous race track in the world
Handling and Dynamic model - RSR Nurburg and Assetto Corsa share an exclusive garage: BMW M3 E30 and E92, Lotus Exige S, Elise, 2 Eleven, McLaren MP4-12C, together with Nissan GT-R, Toyota GT-86 and many other cars that will be included in Assetto Corsa's garage. RSR Nurburg's instructors knowledge, developed driving the same cars on the most comprehensive race track in the world is an invaluable know-how: the dynamic model and handling of the in-game cars will be further refined and developed by the feedback of the instructors thanks to a professional simulator installed at RSR Nurburg's headquarters, chasing the perfect correspondence between reality and simulation.
Tests, events and contests - Assetto Corsa's development team has already been supported by RSR Nurburg's team during the last trip to the Nurburgring Nordschleife, using cars from RSR fleet both for dynamic tests on track and for shooting. This kind of support will be extended to many more tracks like Vallelunga and Spa Francorchamps, where Assetto Corsa's development team will be able to use RSR Nurburg's cars for dynamic tests and surveys, with the ultimate goal to deliver the most realistic and perfected car simulation. RSR Nurburg and Kunos Simluazioni are working together to close the gap between simulated environment and real-life, with many initiatives to provide convenient services to all those who want to experience the thrill of driving on the track: stay tuned not to miss big news coming soon!

Note that in the above they have confirmed y new license for the Toyota brand, en passant, so to speak. :)

Some new and well-driving tracks have been released by modders.

There is the brandnew Monaco city circuit, in its latest layout, and boy, this easily is the best looking and most scenery-detailed version of it I ever haver seen in any racing sim. A must-have.

Also released just today, is the GP track of China.

Shomaru Pass is a hillclimb and (dive) that is a legal converison of some mod for another sim, it is a bit repetitive in the graphical elements it uses to debit the scenery, however it drives interestingly and flawlessly, up the hill, over the peek, and down on the other side again. I liked the ride, and it is not a short track either.

A flawless and solid presentation is Oran Park, which drives interestingly due to its bridged 8-layout.

Zaandvort is still in beta, but got released as beta already, and it really is a solid track that keeps up with its promises.

The rF1- conversion of a mod for the Transfagarasan also is being released, but still is under development. The uphill version works. The track sees constant updates right now, but already feels very well and looks better than the rF1 version.

Finally, a new from-scratch version of Donington has been done, and it is all better than the previously released legal conversion which already was good. The magical formula is the much improved landscape textures here. Visually, I would say the track looks very realistic. And it drives well!

I now have between 60 and 70 tracks in my track folder - the modding for a game not yet released as full version is already alive and well. Many new cars are under development, too, plus season-skin packs for racing classes, some of which already are released.

That's it for the moment - status of AC still is 0.21.13. Next major AC update scheduled for August 29th.

The track is released, named as Super Sprint 80s Style.

It's kind of a conversion. Sort of. Can one say that? :D

And as always after a patch release, a quick ripplefiring of follow-on patches: 4 patches in 5 hours. No bad reaction time...

Status is now 0.22.4

Mercedes SLS is brute power, and finally brute power in the brakes, too. Different feeling to drive this one, this kind of diversity is what makes ars a worthy contribution. Nürburgring Sprint is only a cut-short verison of the track already known. To me, the most noticable item on the feature list is that onbce agaion the AI has made a jump forward (after the last tweak having been a step backward). It really has entered the quality range now where I would rate it as competitive with that of any other racing sim out there, although as always: with some cars and on some tracks it is better, and with other cars or on other tracks not so much...

Another step ahead.

Now I admit I was a bit surprised by the announcement to add the SLS to the AC garage, I was hoping more for a Jag, or Lambo, or heck even an Alpha, but I do like the SLS. It's fast, looks amazing although it is tail happy at times and the brakes leave a little to be desired but overall it's a great car. @Skybird is the Transfagarasan finished or is it still WIP?

Skybird
09-04-14, 05:34 AM
Officially it still is WIP, but trust me - it looks an awful lot better than the rF1 or GSCE originals already, and the track is such that it already drives very well, the surface physics are fully functional. Still no AI, but as a hillclimb - go for it now. Its worth it. Chasing the F40 or the SLS up that track, is great fun. No need to wait: get it!

Nothing new on the Kunos front, status is 0.22.9

I have no word on whether there will be an update this Friday or not.

Stabiz has made a new AC video about the BMW M1, as as so often with his movies it is a piece of beauty, and a pleasure to watch and to listen to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhcDhznZ8no&list=UUn9M8HTW5Gb4Q1J-1VpItSA

Having gotten used to the Mercedes SLS, I must say I really appreciate the very different feeling this car gives, it is a great contribution to the garage, and one of the most outstandinhg, unique cars in the collection so far. Though not the easiest to drive.

There have been a few more tracks releases, of which I would recommend especially these:

Lake Louise Loop Road - a 22.8 km long masterpiece in Beta that already now ranks amongst the best of the best tracks there are. It is a street track design, so no mean chicanes and supertight hairpins, but a layout you would expect from an ordinary, winding road in the mountains, it is designed from scratch, models a mountain landscape around a lake, and it really goes high and low. Driving it is a blast - and more difficult than at first glance it promises to be. A must have, don't miss it. :yeah:

Spa Francorchamp as by layout in 1992 (with bus stop chicane) - a conversion of a mod for rF1, AFAIK it is a legal conversion and so I list it here. It is a solid conversion and brings to life this marvelous track, it drives very well, looks decent, and the AI can handle it competently, too. Good!

There have been two more tracks I would have liked to mention, but I later learned that the authors have stolen them without asking for permission from the original creators who did them on another platform. Theft like this I do not support, and I call these bastards by the name they deserve: thieves. May your systems go up in flames.

The Corvette C6 and Shelby Cobra mods have seen physics and settings updates to make them fully compatible with the 0.22 version of AC.

I mentioned it earlier, tis is the Donington mod track, version 1.3. This track must be amongst the very best ones so far being done, it looks and drives gorgeous, and is no conversion but an AC built-from-scratch.

Some new screens from a quick race I did between a McLaren MP4-12C GT3, a pair of Lotus Evora GTCs, a pair BMW M3 GT3 and a pair BWM Z4 GT3. Talk about a close race the BMWs where all over me and I was constantly trading places with a particular M3 for 1st place, thankfully the AI doesn't seem too keen on late braking.

Rumour holds it that the next update will be around 3GB in size, and will be the last update in the Early Access phase.

Considering the size, one is lured into believing that there might be cars, tracks, and additonal content, the new grapohics engine and sound engine, a "new and much demanded" feature that Kunos recently said they hope to cramp in (could be pitstops, I assume), in short: the final release candidate for 1.0.

Further hints they sporadically released via Twitter or Facebook indicate that the Early Access phase indeed will be over "soon".

There is a growing light in the dark tunnel, and it ain't the headlights of an approaching train...

Meanwhile plenty of activity has been observed at Kunos' company headquarter at Vallelunga. Posters and banners got delivered and are being set up, partyrooms get build, track segments got decorated, trucks shuttled in many iconic sportscars (the real things this time), all of them happen to be content of AC.

Looks as if they are preparing a big party.

Interview with Kunos manager Marco Massarutto in video, original Italian language, and with mouthwatering ingame video footage. The interview got translated into English in text form below the video. We learn some interesting news, for example that the pitstops that will come for MP in 1.0, will be worked into single player mode as well once the 1.0 has been released (look at the fully animated hectic pit crew at work in the video!), or that the Early Access program went so well that it allowed them to not only invest into additional licenses, but also to boost the team size from a core of 6 to 15 members.

In many posts on other forums there is plenty of wonderings and criticism that AC is this and not that, and does not feature items wanted while offering a focus that in the opinion of the poster is not "complete", and so on. Why is it no iRacing, why is it not Project Cars, why is it not rF2, why is not this, and why is it not that.

Aris from Kunos team gave this answer on what the focus is that AC revolves around, and it is so nice and puristic and concentrated on the core of things that it reminds me of SBP and eSim's attitude of prioritizing where their core expertise is:

Our focus is on driving fast. It always has been, and always will be. So if for whatever reason we need to do a compromise it will be for everything else not related to driving fast.

Lack of time, lack of talent, lack of experience, lack of technology, or whatever else, means we will try to make it better when you're inside the car driving, than when you're watching replays or moving around the track in birds view etc...

You can see this in tons of example in Assetto Corsa.

RaceDepartment has a nice report about how they experienced the press day at Vallelunga, and some nice info is packed into the text.

http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/experience-the-assetto-corsa-press-event.94161/

Some highlights in info:

To make sure the term Simulazione is used correctly, Kunos has great attention for factual details. All the official content in the game is officially licensed, and with that built on 100% real-life specifications. To get the closest to real feeling cars and the tyres they use have to behave as they should, and it needs to be accurate, no values are guessed, or estimated.

Announced improvements made on the tire model are:

Blistering: When the tires get too hot, small "heat bubbles" will form, and then little pieces get ripped from the surface of the tire.
Graining: Very often, this happens when the tires are getting abused, or is a bit too cold for the treatment it get's, it can very easily happen at the start of a race, if the tires are not brought up to correct temperature.

Blistering and graining are non-reversible, and you will lose grip and have slower lap times once you've encountered these problems. This is also a reason why pitstops are very important for Kunos to get out. For now, Kunos announced that pit stops will be on multiplayer only. Eventually, AI will be capable of pitting as well, but there is no indication given on when that will be.

The Spa track is fantastic, looks, feels and drives awesome! One of the best tracks there are for AC, one of the very very best!

The Ferrari LaFerrari - hell, is that thing fast, while being more agile than the Huayra! As usual with these sportsupercars, you have to relearn driiving especially regarding when startzing to break. The magical spell is: EARLY.

The new sound suite, though still not complete for all cars, already is a fulminant improvement over the old one, especiallyx when watching from the fence, the new reverb effects and the roaring sounds of the engines really add to the excitement.

The new graohics engine also works way better than the old one, giving more natural contrasts that are not so harsh to the eye, and nicier brightness and colour scaling. I have switched the post processing effect profile from "dynamic" (which is default) to "none", however.

Damage system needs more balancing.

Some old malfunctions/bugs still are present. Its a release candidate, after all. Skins of cars when having more than one car class in arace, still get doubled and tripled, not fully randomised.

Trento-Bondone showed to be only a slightly improved conversion from the netKart track. Taken for itself: a solid track (and most mod tracks still do not make it to its level), compared to the standard of the other Kunos-made tracks: its not en par with them.

The third Silverstone version: I admit I think it was not really needed. Well done, but for driving it is the most boring of the three.

Although having cleaned my installation before downloading (although I had only car skins, two cars and a tire temp app and a mini-HUD aapp in use anyway, nothing else, except the car skins I removed all that), installation of 1.0 seems to have created problems, mod apps do not show up anymore, the acs.exe does not do its job for me, and as a result my G27 wheel does not get correctly recognised by the sim.

Spa, sound and graphics is what makes me grinning from ear to ear nevertheless. :yeah: Spa is fantastic.

I needed 2:40 hours to download those 3.2 GB. I hope I do not end up needing to download the whole sim again (and I had external full installation copies on HD, and the Steam backup on USB stick - all to no use now). Not only would it be work to replace all those mod skins I use (> 20GB, probably several hundred skins), but the sim itself has a download volume in full install of 30 GB, according to the tech specs displayed at Steam. Go figure how long the download would take... One complete day and one complete night...

In the past 7 months: massively improved tires, physics, sounds, gfx engine, acceptable AI, and superb default tracks (and by now quite some excellent mod tracks as well, some very excellent mod tracks indeed).

It should feel very different and very realistic for you. If you say later this night that you still are not impressed, I'll hit you! :O:

Just take note of the recommendation to install 1.0 over a new installation, means in your case now: download it all freshly. I currently do it, since my installation of 1.0 over a manually cleaned existing 0.22 seems to have created artifacts causing troubles. It's 5.7 GB download in total. Thank God they compressed it heavily, else I would be screwed.

Total reinstallation and fresh download completed. 5 hours. :timeout:

The best mod cars were the Shelby Cobra which brought its author into the Kunos team and made the Cobra now official content, and the Corvette C6R. They both currently drive without sounds,m since they are the old versions with the old sound system.

I can only recommend to test the Corvette, it's a superb car. The Cobra mod will be continued but personally I see no reaosn why I should have four Cobras in the sim which all are relatively close in behavior. I'll stick with the now official one.

My favourite post process effect filter is now "Photographic", nice colours it gives, and the interior is not too dark.

I hope they fix the sound issues soon that came with 1.01 RC last night (no sound on AI cars).

Else all i can say is: Spa-Spa-Spa! Spa-Spa-Spa...! Spa-Spa-Spaspaspa...!!!

With Zandvoort announced as official content, they now need to add Suzuka. Possible that this one will not become true, for it is far away and something tells me that the licensing fees will be beyond all reason. They indicated earlier this year that they know of some tracks that appeared as unsuspicious regarding their costs but that would demand insane money for licensing, while others, namely the Nordschleife, were surprisingly cheap to have.

Take note everybody of some of the tracks by modders that I listed on previous pages in various postings. There is some extremely well-done material out there. I would now add Bahrein, Hockenheim and Valencia to those earlier lists.

The Kunos tracks set the standard so far, but some others are extremely close to that standard. Donington for example, it looks awesome, that realistic it looks.

Hotfixes already coming in, the latest with almost 70 MB, mostly sound-related.

New version number is 1.03 RC.

Meanwhile it was announced that Project Cars has been delayed until Spring next year. Nice christmas gift for Kunos, I think, the sales numbers for AC Full Release will not exactly suffer from that. :D

Main repository for AC mods seems to be Race Department:
http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/categories/assetto-corsa.1/

http://www.nogripracing.com/files.php?maincat=19

http://assettocorsafan.com/modding/track/

http://www.drivingitalia.net/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=541

I would wait with system and car mods until 1.0 final release is out. Any updates and hotfixes until then are best installed over default installations. Skins and tracks probably do not harm, however.

But you are not really running short on cars in AC anyway. And mastering the Kunos cars and finding out all their characteristics and subtleties needs time anyway.

Wowh, some nice ones. What time of day did you set? What PPE filter? And you used motion blurr, yes? I had the time set to 18:00 on the Le Mans circuit with the photographic PPE filter and I have motion blur set to about 8. There's a couple of spots around Le Mans that really give the full effect of the sunlight.

What I do not come to terms with is the problem that when I activate the photo app (I race with photographic PPE, too), and start to move the camera, I immediately loose focus of the car, it becomes blurry. Chnaging the DOF setting to 0 sharpens it immediately, but switching it to let'S say 0.1 and then chnaging the setting below that (forgot what it is named like, it usually is in the range of 55.xxx-70.xxx) seems to do nothing, not to mention that that changinging of the value takes hilariously< long time.

Any advice?

I tried the photo app as well with the same results, it just doesn't function like a regular camera would. The depth of field changes too rapidly without any possible fine tuning and then are two values that I found have to deal with where the sun is in the sky (horizon and azimuth I think is what it is.), and trying to get a good screenshot is next to impossible and very annoying. All of the screenshots I've posted so far have been taking using the track-side cameras and the camera which allows you to pan around the exterior of the car.

Quite the opposite for me, all my pics in this thread were done via the photo app. It just annoys me that I cannot use a very mild DOF, and must indeed switch it off completely. I would like to create effects like with a strong tele.

Last night I did a ten laps race at Bahrein, six car types, 22 cars. Very good mod track, btw, solid work, AI handles it okay, and trackside cameras. One of the best racing experiences I have ever had on PC so far, ten laps of constant give-and-take, a 20 minutes long dogfight with a stubborn M3GT2 and a pesky 458GT2 (me in an Evora GX), notoriously changing positions between the three of us, with three others ahead and 16 more behind us, all the time driving at 18:00 with the sunset over the flat desert place. The other two were faster than me, but the Evora is more agile and did better in breaking, it reminded me a bit of dogfighting between two Bf109 and one Spitfire. Was an open call all the time, until last lap. I ended in fourth place. That experience stood out a bit ! Very nice.

Beside the Shelby Cobra, the Corvette C6R probably was/is the most complete and best car mod out so far (or so they say at least, to me at least it feels like professional Kunos quality). URD now has released a hotfix that deals with the sound issue of their cars being silent after AC implemented its new sound engine. Download the pack, and add it itno the Corvette folder. However, the Corvette folder must be manually renamed to "urd_egt_corvette" to let the fix come into effect, else the car remains to be soundless.

Already with this provisional work-around, the car sounds awesome already, like a hungry beast from the wilderness.

The LaFerrari is a fast mover for sure, but for my taste it bites you too easily, and I am surprised at the very light-feeling steering. I miss a more direct, linear feedback from the track, via the steering, I feel disconnected in the LaFerrari. Also, weight-transfer and breaking become a whole new art in this monster.

Surprisingly difficult to drive it fast. When going slower, feels not like driving but like soaring high in the sky. Impressive car, difficult car, impressive virtual representation and simulation. Kunos probably outmatched themselves with this one.

There is a hybrid car announced in one of the coming download packs. I wonder how that will feel (and sound :) ).

Just a few laps of Silverstone tonight in the 458, and then, just for a laugh, about half-a-mile of Trento-Bondone in the Cobra.

I've hit the side less in a game of pinball. :haha:

They've really optimised since I last played it, on track solo and most things high I get 150 fps, drop the settings and add a dozen cars and it's anywhere between 15 - 50 fps. Mostly adequate. I'll look at updating nvidia drivers soon, not been done for a while.

Skybird
10-21-14, 07:25 PM
Kunos officially recommends to leave driver settings to off or app-controlled, and use only the ingame options. Especially regarding AA and AF.

Trento is not for every car. You probably have already figured it. :D

I do not look at a frame counter. I have at full car fields on the Kunos defualt tracks no lags, no stuttering, everything smooth and fluent, no matter how high the angle speed is with which I change viewing direction. That is what counts. The rest is fetishism. :)

---

Donington and especially Salzburg for me tonight. Both tracks are recommended, but especially Salzburg is a secret tip and a blast to drive. One of my absolutly favourite tracks: nice flow, wonderful visual representation (and no horizon, due to the location). Not many tracks for AC look as convincing as this one. The Kunos thread on it holds three additional cameras, posting #143, or one or two numbers earlier or later.

You know something Sky, I have been wondering why we haven't seen a GT40 in AC yet!?! Maybe with the new deal with Ford, they might show up?

I don't know about the GT40, eddie, I saw no car list for Ford so far, only read about the license deal. I would expect them to include any version of a Mustang, however.

I found a new app, that reduces the huge size of the damage indicator.

Kunos management mentioned some details for the future of coming months and next year:

The Nordschleife DLC is probably coming in late Decembre or January.

The Ford GT40 and GT3, Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona, Ford Mustang 2015, are coming.

In total 30 new cars planned for 2015.

Amongst them: 4x4 wheel drives .

New suspension model.

Steam Workshop inclusion.

New MP management tools.

But: nightracing and rain effects almost ruled out for the forseeable future and this incarnation of AC (AC1). Maybe when they present the successor in 2018 or later. Which is no saurprise. They would need a completely new graphics engine developement for multiple light sources which then would take its toll on frames as well. But in the words of Kunos themselves: "Our focus is on drivinig cars fast". This defines all subordinate priorities. I do not object!

Recently new screenshots from work on their Nordschleife popped up somewhere, I do not finds it again, but it seems the attention to detail will be pedantic. Even the full variety of graffitis on the track was there.

I have started top put my nose into MP a bit, which is still quite unusual for me. The three races that I did, I all won, and easily and boringly. Most people had shot themselves off the track after half of lap 1, and of 12 or 15 starters 10 laps later only 3 or 4 made it over the finishing line. Most of the race for me was running all alone as if it were a SP practice session.

I absolutely cannot understand how some people some months ago could have become so noisy and hilariously negative when their was no MP, and hammered home the message that a race sim without MP is no race sim, but garbage, and so on and on. It was clear since always that AC would not offer a league system like they have in iRacing, and that therefore always a wide spread of skills would meet in the races, spreading drivers wide apart on the track very soon.

Comoared to these experiences, AI races are A BLAST. The AI also is more competent than most drivers are in avoiding collisions and spinning off the track.

However, I also tried a server where they run an endless practice session at Nordschleife, no race, people just come and go as if it were an open track day. I spend severla hpours there today, and much was was had, with sometimes meeting cars on track and forming couples and triples with them and staying in close groups just for the fun of it. That, on the other hand, was a very pleasant MP experience!

Lake Louise also has a server with such a setting, and occasionally some of the default tracks are set up like that for some time, too. Definitely better than the races.

I am stunned to see that I can handle MP and Nordschleife with 26 cars on track, with fluent frames and good ping. :)

Solution to the race misery is to find a bunch of people with whom to race , where skills and personalities match. But that is not for the taste of somebody who doe snot frequently run internet races and only wants to have the freedom to get a taste of it whenever he wants, non-systematic.

It's also my new favorite mod car for AC, it is just a fun car to drive, it's also a bit tail happy but you can drift it and it won't try to bite your head off. I'd highly recommend this car if you a fan of retro cars or just want something different to drive.
And here we have the insanely fast LaFerrari in Gulf racing colors.

What is so stunning baout the LaFerrari is that despite its insane acceleration, top spoed and braking power it nevertheless handles surprisingly agile and easy. Its more soaring than flying. Fantastic. Insane, but fantastic.

The Miura - either you love to make driving as hard for yourself as possible or not. The mod is very well-modelled, no doubt, but the car by its characteristics just will not become my darling.

No, that is not a Porsche. And certainly no red Ferrari.

RUF Yellowbird, that sounds so sweet, so cute, so harmless, like "canary bird".

Von wegen...!

I warn you, this beast is difficult to drive, and a real challenge I found, more like a bronco rocking on hot coals. Feels very different than most if not all other cars in AC so far, but is a great pleasure to be whipped and thrown around the corners (if you manageto achieve that without spelling disaster). You've been warned.

That is hilarious, Oberon! That is no car, but a travesty, a carricature, and mean joke of automobile history. :D - And no, I have not downloaded it.

The German Heinkel "Kabinenroller" also was such an ugly thing of a wannabe-car... lol

http://i.auto-bild.de/ir_img/1/0/1/3/3/7/0/Heinkel-Kabinenroller-474x316-736248cfa5259c35.jpg

I tried the Yellowbird with dramatically reduced turbo charger this evening, and wonder oh wonder: all of a sudden one realises how very well balanced the car really is. It is the insane acceleration added by the turbo charger that turns it into a suicide-machine.

And another mod car I would recommend, the Broadspeed Jaguar XJ12C ETCC. Visually it still is a bit rough around the edges, and the sounds are not original either - but the force feedback you get from this oldtimer and the general driving behavior that calls for easy hands and feet, is top class. Whether it is realistic I cannot say, but it is great fun and pleasure to drive it. The car is from 1977, one should keep that in mind.

The Ginetta G55 GT4 also was a nice discovery from two weeks ago or so, easy and good-behaving.

It's 70 cars in the garage now. And the next ten Kunos releases and then some more licences later already are announced, with modders not resting either. I have sorted my track collection and got rid of those that I do not use much anyway or do not like or that are mediocre, many illegal ports I have not downloaded anyway. One could have far over 100 tracks already if one wants that and does not care for quality or legality. But in the end I find myself always coming back to the same tracks again and again anyway. So my installed collection is around 50 now.

I had posted kind of a brief review (or: description of where AC stands after official full release now) in the official Kunos forums three days ago. Since I am not certain that you can register there (necessary to even just read there) if not proving you're customer via your Steam account, I do not just link but copy it in full here:

---------------------

Thoughts and suggestions on AC 1.0 full release

There it is, we now have it, just in time for Christmas. By now we have compared the promises from the advert with the content that we have been given, and we find: all cars, all tracks, and all features that they had advertised, have been delivered. They kept their word - and then added some more stuff that also already got delivered. And said there will come more. The future looks promising.

What to think of the quality that we have been given? All in all, I see space for substantial improvements, but I am also already very positive about the sim. While thinking about this text and what I would like to point at, I recalled my memories of Nascar 2003 and GTR2 and GSE, and I must say that except the fun that pack racing in that old Papyrus title could mean, there is nothing else I look back too, certainly not the graphics, and even less so the physics and how it felt to drive these toy boxes. You simply cannot compare. I also remembered how it felt when I test-played rFactor 2 and iRacing on other people’s systems long time ago. To fresh up that memory and see any updates, I downloaded the demo for rF2 yesterday and tested it, a Corvette R6C at Silverstone, that is lucky, because that way the tracks by ISS and Kunos could be compared directly.

Lets talk graphics first. AC looks stunning, imo, it is limited in that it does not display weather conditions and night and multi-light-sources, we all know that by now from those many discussions, but the racing conditions that it displays, it displays superior and better than any other of the two direct rivals. That is true for cars and environment, track and sky as well. The offering of post-process filters is a nice touch to alter quickly the way in which the colour and contrast schemes gets presented to the eye. Mostly I use them for screenshots, and play with almost just two filters I prefer, one ingame and one mod filter. AC looks splendid in the range of racing conditions that it offers. Or in other words: the sim’s graphics system does not do all (no night, no weather), but what it does, it does extremely well. Comparing the system to rF2 as it is displaying things in the actual version released some days ago, almost forbids itself, I honestly think that visually rF2 has nothing to win there. When setting up Silverstone in conditions matching those in AC, rF2 gets left in the dust, I really would put it that clearly, because it is a graphics style in rF2 that is many years behind, the environment as it is displayed visually in AC looks so much more realistic and natural in colours and light, than the comic-like track environment in rF2.

Sounds: they have seen more development than initially seem to have planned for this year. All in all I like them. Some cars sound better in cockpit than others, some cars sound better and some sound slightly inferior to their pendants from other sims, the sounds in replay and using trackside cameras I am extremely fond of, it sounds just great for most car classes. So, there is room for improvement in AC, but in general, sound-wise the sim already is quite good, really.

Physics, and forcefeedback. In AC, I just love them both. I cannot go back to the way those rolling toy boxes in GTR2 and GSE feel, and I recall that I found the physics in iR over one and a half, almost two years ago, better than these – but taking them and comparing them by mind to AC, sees me declaring AC the winner over iR. Even clearer the actual comparison with the demo of rF2 , latest build, is. Although I set up Logitech Profiler carefully and tested several settings in it, the fore feedback in rF felt extremely light and wishy-washy, the car like being made of paper. Especially the dynamic shift of car attitude from stabilized to unstabilized, or reverse, is plagued by what I know from the much older sim-games: there is a somewhat clear treshold level that switches the feeling of the car so suddenly that it feels as if all of a sudden you drive another car. It is almost an on-off-switch. In GTR2 and GSE, once you had stepped that far when pushing beyond the limits, the car would then refuse to be caught again and be brought under control again, but would inevitably slide into a 180° or 360° spin. In rF2, you can re-catch the car if your speed was slow enough, but the phase of traversing (I lack the English words to exactly describe what I mean, I’m sorry) still imo is extremely sudden, like a line that suddenly bends. This is one of the many aspects where AC shines, the “line” does not bend suddenly, but forms a gentle curve. The change in car attitude is not so sudden and abrupt, but more progressive – and it is so in both directions, you can catch the car again. It is more predictable, feels more right and correct, like I would expect it from reality. The car in general has a more vivid, dynamical feel in all three dimensions, it feels alive in AC. I did not get that feeling in iR back then, and not now in rF2 demo or rF2 back then.

I honestly think the physics and the feeling of driving in AC blows its mentioned two competitors off the track.

And the forcefeedback, it has seen quite some adjustment over this year, hasn’t it. Right now, it feels – close to brilliant, I would say. The virtual car all of a sudden has real mass, has matter and weight. It does not feel like a cow running on ice, or as light as a blown-up balloon. The FFB I just have had in rF2 was a great disappointment, and I recall that I was unimpressed by it when I tested an earlier build of rF2 on somebody else’s system – and that was a guy who spend much more on his driving equipment than I do, and has really cared to set up the fine-tuning that might not be available in the demo I now tried again. Excellent job done by Kunos, truly excellent!

What I would like to see being improved, is the track condition thing. We now have that slider to set some basic conditions that to some degree also effect the general change in the track with some laps driven. However, it would be nicier if one could implement a system of a dynamically affected rubber-path, so that the driving of the cars indeed change the track’s grip just on the lines they drive, and depending on how often that line is being met by tires. If I recall it correctly, rF2 does something like that, and it is a very neat feature, I would say.

Now something where light and shadow meet: the AI. It has seen huge changes over this year, and in general it has been improved, by a method of sometimes “two steps forward, one step back”. Where is it right now? Not flesh, not meat. Very early on, the Ai loved to ignore you and just slam into you, no matter what you do. For the most, this is gone, even with cars that before I would have seen as being more prone than others to mishandling by the AI. If you do silly things in front of an AI car, and leave it no room and time to react, it still will hit you – but what do you expect? The AI does a much more competent job in avoiding collisions than I see in public server racing, the AI is superior in this regard, and very easily so. However, this defensiveness has come at a cost. The aggressiveness that also must be there, has suffered too much. The AI breaks way to early before turns, it even slows down at times where you would not need to slow down, or would not expect the AI to slow down. Also, there seem to be some bugs in it, that seem to be more likely to show up the more you have activated the damage slider. If cars behind a damaged car reach it, they sometimes seem to almost link up to it like wagons on a train, with the slow, damaged car serving as a locomotive. You also see the AI not really fighting against the AI. The car behind another AI car may sheer out to overtake, and then not overtaking. On some instances I see myself rolling slow on the sideline, even coming to a standstill, and the AI car behind me on the very other side of the track slowing down needlessly (with a completely unobstructed track!) too, almost stopping. The more its hood is beyond mine, it starts to accelerate again. And then the two cars that always lead the field and race off and away. What kind of stuff are these two guys on? Sometimes I really wondered whether the way in which events handled by the AI unfolded maybe were sort of scripted?! I am not good enough a driver to need an absolute state-of the art AI to race against, but what there is now has light, but also shadow, and the mix is too wild as if I feel comfortable with it. I consider the AI to be needing priority given to it by Kunos, it is a construction site. Things become interesting when doing trackdays, I use to have 20 different street car versions from slow to very fast, and then can see interesting duels and 1-1 or even triple duels on track, where you really see some fighting, but only when the cars show really huge differences, else a slower car again will just intimidate a faster car and forcing it into compliance and standing up at the end of the line, so to speak.

I would like to see the option to save car fields I have selected for a race, and being able to just load these again when preparing the track and race conditions.

I would also see the text bar at the top, no matter what it shows, not blocking the texts that get triggered when you adjust for example ABS or TC.

The damage model is – ehem, pardon? I currently have it switched off, to avoid the messy AI issue described above, and because the damage visually shown, the physical consequences of the car, and the severity of the incident too often do not seem to be consistent. It is a very half-baked feature so far, and more arcade than anything. In the state it is in, it is almost clueless.

Hm, I think that summarizes all that I have on mind. Oh, wait, multiplayer.

Against my usual habits, I do since one month occasionally MP-driving, preferably trackday setups. There is no use in comparing AC’s MP to that of iR, we know what iR is and what it excels in, and why that is so, and we know that AC does not aim to mimic that aspect of iR, and never meant to do so. No use in complaining then. The MP I see, is public server MP, and that decides the kind of behavior of people and the kind of racing you get there. Both is not AC’s fault. I found AC to be stable,. I never had a session broken off due to technical problems, and whether the events when somebody was warping like hell, took place due to bad code in AC or a bad connection by the player, I cannot judge. All in all, MP is pretty much what I expected to see.

For the future, despite the announced new content and the construction sites I already mentioned, I would see a replacement of the penalty system which people have hated since day 1 on, a basic flag system, pit stops both in MP and of course SP, and by that allowing longer races even with active fuel consumption. I do not demand night and weather, due to understanding that this would mean quite a lot of engine replacement and is more than just adding a minor tweak here or there, but I would ask to consider whether the existing engine would allow an easier tweak so that foggy conditions could be activated, via a slider, and maybe linked to the track condition slider as well (fog means moisture in the air, affecting track surface’s grip as well).

Thinking again, and yes, I think now I indeed have hit all the nails I wanted to hammer in.

In general, my verdict for AC 1.0 is very positive. Not completely perfect, but very positive, to me it already is the preferred driving sim of choice. Well done, Kunos team, and thank you! Hope you stay engaged not only in content creation, but tuning of features, especially the AI. The AI is my major issue.

You have to see them from a 1950ies perspective. Hardly anyone could afford a real car back then and if one had a family this thing would beat any motorcycle hands down in terms of practicality. They are meant to be an alternative for people who can't afford a car but want/need more than a motorcycle. Besides I think they look cool.

RECOMMENDED CAR LIST

[edited. See updated list at the bottom of the thread]

There are more mod cars, but not all of them are of the same recommendable quality, but these I found to be outstanding so far. To my best knowledge none of them is an illegal rip,m but all are made new from scratch. The Jaguar is visually not fully finalised (see the dwarfd driver :D ) , but it drives - well, put it into a race with RUF CRT, F40, Shelby Cobra, Lambo Miura, and see yourself. They all have something in common: they are very difficult to drive, lose traction easily, but also are very satisfying.

===================

The next big mod thing coming: Lucca Ring. This video shows what the Beta will look like.

AWESOME achievement.

Check folder structure.

Added cars before?

I assume you have moved just one folder "RS5000" moved to the car folder, inside which are two subfolders RS5000. Take these two out and move them into car folder. Leave the "envelope" out of it.

You should get a Ford-logo in the game's car selection screen.

Herr Berbunch, if you have not tried some mods so far, you really have missed a world. Have a little trust, some of these mods are really extremely good! If I list you just 3 or 4 tracks, would you try them? I say: Salzburg, Brno, Donington, Lippo Village. Nice variety in there, all rocksolid quality. That should be enough to convince you to be more open for the big wide world out there. :D A second wave of downloads could include Transfagarasan Hillclimb, Barbagallo, Gentrack1, Aosta.

Have a trackday setup: race full weekend, practice to 90 minutes, and then use the practice session exclusively. Have a car field of 15-20 street cars, one of each only, that makes it most interesting. I play either GT-races - or this kind of trackday setup almost exclusively.

Regarding cars, the one I listed (except the correction I explain at the end of this post) all are very good. The Miura is about sound and feel, but very difficult to drive. I tried many more car mods, but many are out there that are mediocre only, or construciton sites. The ones listed really are the cream de la cream currently.

I add the Seat Leon Euro Cup 2014 Race Car to the list off recommended cars. Very polished ex- and interior, a race car with hilarious downforce, very friendly to beginners, because it is a relatively slow racing class. It is a very polished, complete package already, in all regards, including what to me seems to be an acoustic brake load indicator.

Noteworthy is that the download comes with a full set of 38 racing skins already.

http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/seat-leon-eurocup-2014.4525/

However, said bad mood probably also had me messing up my first assessment of the Jaguar, which I now officially must rate "terrible" after having had a second try with it. What I first considered to be nice recreation of past time physics, I now would rate as "in no way completed physics". The car maybe improves with further work, but right now: not recommended.

And did I say the Ford Cosworth street version is so la la? I apologize, I just have been in a bad mood when testing it first. I just had it in a very mixed trackday setup at Lippo Village Street Track, and got rewarded with plenty and plenty of endless, not ending dogfights with 2, 3 and 4 opponents involved, lap for lap. An outstanding experience.

I wish I could handle 15-20 cars, even with quality dropped I suffer lag. Particularly online, did a few laps of Nordschleife and every time somebody got near me the stuttering became so bad I always went off. Shall look at port-forwarding later, might help as router was reset a month ago and I've not redone it since.

Failing that I'll have to start saving for new PC, core2duo has been flagging of recent. not going to be an easy one to sell to the wife. Build or buy, money is an object.

Skybird
12-28-14, 07:00 AM
Core2duo indeed is a bit thin between the shoulders now. I know its their minimum specs given for AC, but who trusts in minimum specs working at all? I'm surprised that you can even run the game.

Promise her to go shopping with her for new shoes, that might do the trick... :D BTW, a GTX 680 card as I use it, is sufficient to run the game on my i5 2500k@3.3GHz. One does not need the newest of the newest and the really expensive hardware for AC. On Kunos' default tracks I can run all car fields at their maximums (=number of pitboxes). I would never buy the latest and newest technology generation, it is hopelessly overpriced.

Skybird

Just tried the new Beta for Assen, v0.5 . Already now a very pleasurable experience, the tracks already looks decent, is fully drivable, has a very good AI line and trackside as well as helicopter camera. Could become one of the really outstanding mod tracks, already is very good.

Skybird

I just added two more tracks to the recommended list, which both are conversions, but by all what I know and can say, and what hinted at me by somebody in emails, seem to be tolerated/authorized. Since these tracks were in very high demand and taken fore themselves are very nice conversions, I m glad that I no longer leave them out: Brands Hatch, and Suzuka.

And I add a third track as well, a conversion that got applause by the original author, so he seems to be okay with it: Melbourne. The texture of white lines on the tarmac are a bit wishy-washy, but else the thing looks and drives very well.

Herr-Berbunch
12-29-14, 01:09 PM

I tried Donington last night, fantastic recreation.

I told you so. :O:

Is it Brands Hatch full GP or Indy? Or even both?

Both. Two links listed. It is a conversion of a mod for another sim, but by all what I can say it is okay, means either tolerated or authorized by the original author. It is a very fine piece of work.

Plenty of ripped content has flooded AC's track market, and with cars it seems to be even worse. One really needs to be on guard. Justice is done at least with cars, since almost all of the rips are of bad quality, which often is true for the tracks too, but not always.

Think I will start to collect illustration videos for each track in the list.

Two new mod tracks, built from scratch, have just been released, and I found them to be solid and being fun.

Norisring. Good job on scenery, it looks quite alive. AI, and two replay cameras included.

Eastern Creek. Hehe, what a teasing temptation to drive fast, it looks so harmless with its turns apparently swinging so softly and swaying to gently. And off the track you go once again - what you say now!? :D A real nice track layout. The scenery looks a bit too sober, but maybe the real place looks like that as well. AI and 1 trackside camera for replay included.

I say both tracks are worth to be considered for downloading. Currently only available from the track mod forum at Kunos (subscription necessary).

Did you try Miseluk?

Nice road circuit but only small cones blocking off some exits so it's a bit hard to judge the right direction until you know the track, which I still don't yet.

At one 90 degree left there are two roads and after removing the cones I went around the very left hand road, up a bridge, and up, and up, and up... Until eventually the road ran out and I tumbled into an abyss - with gravity on my side the '70s Jaguar Touring Car (fantastic car!) achieved 325 mph! Screenshot to follow. :o

Yes, I know Miseluk, its quite - different... Good one, yes. Reminds me a bit of the Berlin Stadtautobahn...

Finding an Escort for AC is easy. ;) Not so easy is to decide whether it is a stolen rip or not.

Some rippers even are shameless enough to then demand money for their own rips. :nope:

I must admit I have ended up with using no PPF again, and colours 90%. However I edited the value for the skybox in the ini files from 3.0 to 2.5.

Eastern Creek is slowly but surely tuned into what could become one of my favourite tracks in AC. New version is out, offering the usual improvements plus the former track plus a new second track layout, the Brabham Variation - some more tight turns and twists and slaloms to be done. It drives very good already, and the AI gets along on it very nicely.

And a new fun track already has seen its second release version coming out, the outside Germany probably not much known and relatively small Sachsenring. It is an authorized conversion, and it really is very entertaining to ride, due to the very steep climbs and dives, it really sets itself apart form most other tracks in regard to elevations. There are still some minor things to be hammered out, namely an invisible hole in the pitlane's centreline, but the AI can race already well on this track, and it looks very solid already. Definitely recommended! This could become another darling track of mine when it is finished.

Both tracks have trackside cameras for replays.

I must try the RUF on both. That could easily mean squeeking chaos. :D

The old track GP 200 was not completed, but nevertheless was a nice, somewhat wild draft, missed by many after it became suddenly dysfunctional for unknown reason, after some earlier AC update. The cause of this has been found, it was the camera.ini file. Delete that in the track's data folder - and the track runs fine again, you only have no trackside cameras in replay anymore (but you have functional AI).

It has a rough charm somehow, and a very original layout.

I tested the M23, but found its FFB not delivering. The car looks nice, but could use some physics overhaul, I think. The Ferrari equivalent in the game feels much more vivid, dynamic and alive.

Maybe we get overcast weather with the next update. I hope so.

The mentioned GP 200 track got a new camera.ini file. Add it to the installation folder and delete the default one, and the track runs - and provides trackside cameras for replays as well.

A conversation at Twitter seems to reveal that the huge update of the AI, making it much more aggressive and competitive, will come together with the dreampack DLC.

Earlier, Kuno's Aris said that he just got his butt served to him by the new AI at Spa, with fights also aking place between the AI all around the track.

Sugar in my ears! If the AI gets finally finished - that one will make the sim perfect for me. I then have all that I could want from it.

A review of AC 1.0.

I must say I almost completely agree with all its points, and general tone, both in good and not so good. I also would have rated it 9/10, like them. It still could become 10/10, if they get the AI to a new standard.

The Sachsenring has gotten an update, 0.7, with new AI lines that should solve the issue on the start-finish-line in front of the pitboxes.

The Surfers Paradise has been converted, with authorization. Looks and drives well! v1.01.

Links in the list above.

More track rips have showed up in past days. To hell with those rippers! As usual, their stolen work will only be ignored in the list.

Adelaide I got confirmation to be a legal conversion. So, Adelaide is added to the track list. I am sentimental over thjat tr4ack, I know it since my first racing game ever: Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix (1) on the Amiga in 1991.

The Sachsenring still sees ongoing improvement, it now has version 0.8 released. A crazy track, you do not want to miss a ride on it!

A 75 Mb download today brought AC to version 1.0.2

Some damage, tire grain and physics calculation fixes, no additions in visible content.

The last version of Sachsenring needs its AI files replaced with an update, the old ones had problems with AI cars leaving the box and messing that up.

Edit: Sachsenring 0.85 is up, including the fix for broken AI line.

I will keep the tracklist updated and occasionally move it further down the bottom of the thread. I also started to provide videolinks and track links in a combined fashion.

Track and video links are constantly added.

Cars included at the bottom, too.

SKYBIRD'S RECOMMENDED TRACKS (and videos)

I have by best knowledge listed only tracks of which I believe to know they are no illegal rips/unauthorized conversions. If you have info on one listed track being such a piece of stolen content, please let me know.

The choice of tracks reflects last but not least personal taste, of course. It thus is no list that completely lists all legally made mod tracks for AC, only those that I know of and that I like for some reason. There are more, I know, but I do not use them. Drifting tracks get no love from me :), I am no drifter and do not care much for them.

Brands Hatch now fully officially confirmed.

Somewhere else he has expressed reasonable hopes that Nord Dream Pack could be released sometime in February, but that is basing on hopes that no major delays will suddenly pop up.

Marco Massarutto: Even the most advanced simulation using known data and others obtained through an empirical approach: weight of the car, maximum horsepower and torque curves are objective data. The performance curve of a pneumatic or aerodynamic drag of a wing or a car body are subject to so many variables (temperature, humidity, air density, type of asphalt) that it can only approximate a value with a certain effectiveness.

The track tests allow us to assess the character and general behavior of the car compared to understeer, oversteer, weight transfer and stability under acceleration and braking. This information is useful when we work to finish the car to make sure that the reactions are as faithful as possible. The most interesting part of this work is the overlap of the telemetry of the car and the one obtained in the simulation and see how, for the same lap times (if these are effectively aligned), the curves of acceleration, braking, steering and transmission of intervention are similar.

The simulation can then effectively reproduce the behavior of the car, and return the player to the same information, but the more difficult the same feelings, because of acceleration G in which the pilot is subjected in reality, which are a valuable source of information as the view, and that the simulation does not return in the same way, even on the most advanced simulators.

Eurogamer: After all, any performance car, you drive before the sit ...

Marco Massarutto: Exactly: for example, some time ago I tested the track in a Lotus Evora S passing from real circuit simulation, to verify in real time the similarities and differences. Driving in the same way in both the simulator and on the track, or pushing the car to the limit while maintaining a minimum safety margin, the feeling "skin" was that the car was faster in real life than on the simulator. When we superimposed telemetry mounted on self checking speed, time and work on the graphics commands were aligned, with a gap on the virtual tour in favor of the latter to 4/10 of a second. In many years of experience we have found that the human feedback is definitely interesting and valuable, but if we have to choose between a chat with a pilot or a race engineer with data in hand, we tend to choose the second.

Back in early 2014 they annou7nced a month of preordering time for the Nord dream DLC. That has now been confirmed to be cut short to just one week. Maybe it gets cancelled completely.

It has also been reiterated that the release will be soon. Hope is for February, else it must be March - for a release in 1st quarter 2015 has been confirmed now.

As usual, many mod tracks have seen updates in recent days and weeks. Worth your time for checking it out is the new addition to the track list, Grobnik Automotodrome, a fine and dirty province track almost unknown, but well done in depicting it. Good racing there!

I also want to direct attention to some of the stages from RBR rally mods that since months get released in constantly updated versions, from the website project "Simtraxx". The quality of all what they offer, varies widely, but four tracks are now offered in a state where I enjoy to drive them, both by looks and physics quality:

Peyregrosse-Mandagout 12,8km 0.6 beta

Sorica (Slovenia Rally) 0.195 beta

They all are rally stages, mind you, and point-to-point racing. No AI races possible therefore. There are more stages like this, but I do not like them all.

Its been a long time.

Sim racing has taken over my gaming completely, since years, my two main titles used are Assetto Corsa, and Raceroom. Two very different business models, and two very different strategies to approach the future.

I have been with AC from all beginning on, since rlease of the tech demo, and then thorugh the Early Access program, and then the full living time of the title. And now, actually already some months ago, the active development on Ac has come to an end. Not to my surprise, since they said they would support it until 2018 from all begining on, already said so in 2014, I think even 2013 - but to the surprise and disappointment of quite some people.

To me it remains to be the one racing simulator which provides me with the greatest, most realistic driving experience and most sublime physics handling. It is not all perfect, it has its a bit weaker sides as well, but regarding physicsa and driving, exterior and interior car modelling, Kunos is at the top.

I use it all in VR now (Oculus), and sinc elast posting have chnaged my contorls as well, now using Fanatec Club Sports Pedals v3 and Fanatec CSL Elite PS4, and both devices make a very huge difference, I can full-heartly reocmmend them.

Anyway, Kunos has announced they secured the license for the Blancpain series for this and next year, and that serie sis what they focus on. The Early Access will be launched htis summer, and yes, there will be night racing, dynamic time of day, endurance racing, and dynamic weather inclduing rain. The released screenshots using the Unreal 4 engine look mouthwatering, in parts can hardly be differentiated from real photos. I think it all is in good hands. Even the AI . :)

Thought that now that modding - AC is the most activately modded racing title on the market currently, and since years) slowly seems to ebb down a bit, too, and no more official development is being done, I check which mod tracks, additional to the always great official DLCs, now have formed up to be the most used by me, considering them to be the best there are in looks, physics, realism. Lets see my track folder:

These track mods are all looking good and provide great driving environments and realistic physics. I left out some former chmapions of mine, which I did not use thta much any more over time, or prefer in their incarnations in Raceroom. One of the pro arguments for Raceroom is its official track poll, no other sims delivers so many so great and visually masterfully "painted" tracks, like Raceroom.

If you are late to the AC party, don't worry to nevertheless jopin this late in time, the communitxy is sitll very much alive, the online environment is tezcncially very fit and solid, modders still breath life into the sim, and I would sday it still has many years of life ahead of it, even with Assetto corsa Competizione being aorudn the door. Weaknesses of the sim, for exmaple the AI, has long since been healed out, Kunos left the title in a techncially very good condition, and left no major holes untreated.

BTW, the track Bilsterberg is no longer available for download anywhere, since the auhtor sold it long time ago to the real world Bilsterberg owners. If you meet somebody who can provide you a copy, keep that copy holy and precious, the track drives fanastical, and the AI handles it well, too. Its one of my most driven tracks ever, I just love it, even if the author broke off the work a little bit before all and everythign got finished. He left in anger, when Kunos closed its official modding forums in I think 2016.

And Aviano is a relatively new track mod, which I inbclude again for one reason only: it provides a fantastic flow experience on track. It is a conversion from its ancestor for Kunos' old net Kart. And in that old sim I considered it to be th ebest track available.

Finally, Aspertsham, which is a photorealstic recreastion of a real world roudncoruse around a Bavarian village. Not so much to be used for racing, it provides a visually stunning driving experience in a world that looks and feels almost real. Think of it as a hotlapper or demonstrator - but one that is so good that I included in in this list of actual racing tracks.

I excluded tracks that are popular but illegal/unethical (pirated stuff, unauthorised conversions).

Happy racing! Next stop Assetto Corsa Competizione - The official Blancpain Series Game.

A great and often overlooked gem of a track, already present in AC via an older mod, but now redone: and boy, is it good! One of my favourites, I would describe Sachsenring as a mix of Bilsterberg and Brands Hatch. Best driven in not the fastest and non-open-wheeler cars. Streetcars, GT4, GT3: things of this range (and comparable) work best in this place. The short length adds to the chance for some "compressed" door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper racing.

After a five years absence, Stefano Casillo rejoins Kunos Simulazioni. The old gang is back and complete again.

What Stefano has done in the first four of these five years? Creating a racing sim, what else. :D

Looks like pretty advanced stuff, but I know nothing about these boats.
