I'm sitting here, trying to escape a destroyer SW of Peleliu. I found myself switching between the hydrophone view and the conning tower view. I try to play the game in First Person when I can and want to get a fairly realistic experience out of the game. I understand there was no specific location the captain should be at. Where would he be in a general quarters situation? If the helmsman is in the conning tower and the plansmen are in the control room, I'm not quite sure how that would work in a silent running situation.

He'd probably be with the rest of the crew.

Well, from what I had read, captain would be in the conning tower on the Tambor/Gar Gato/Balao/Tench classes. The older boats like the Porpoise, standard practice for some(aboard Pollack, Captain Ruiz mentioned in his book) they abandoned the conning tower during depth charge attacks because it was considered the weak part of the hull, their hydrophones were in the forward torpedo room as was the sound gear, sound info was passed via talkers on headsets.Think as older boats were modernized this may have changed as well. Far as noise, well they did not shout but calmly passed orders via the talkers, would not be a big imposition to do so from conning tower to control room. Also, the hatch was there, was easy to to quieltly pass orders directly. I would say stay in the conning tower on the newer boats. If conning tower takes damage and floods completely I do abandon it.A huge oversight in SH 4 was not animating flooding.
