NASA is currently looking to pay a number of volunteers $18,000 to lie in bed for 70 days (http://www.forbes.com/sites/crossingborders/2013/09/18/nasa-will-pay-18000-to-watch-you-rest-in-bed-for-real/). Participants will be allowed to play games, talk to friends and family members, take classes, even work remotely for their real job, as long as they do not get out of bed for the entire duration of the experiment.

I already applied...

Don't make a mistake, 70 days in bed will be torture. You'll get bored out of your head and the amount of muscle mass that you'll lose and have to regain afterwards will be awful. Even the walk to the loo will be exhausting. I wouldn't sign up for just 18.000$ and I'm unemployed right now.:timeout:

you sure you don't have to do THAT in bed too?

its a nasa test so im sure you will have to use some sort of an astronaut toilet from bed because you aren't allowed to walk or use your muscles

Stick a nappy/diaper on em, they'll be fine...even if a little smelly :03:

I didn't read it, but how big is the bed?

I want the fine details.....

Well then lots of sex and the time will fly by...wait a minute! NASA is moving into the porn business.

I'm shocked! :o

"We want people who have the physical and psychological characteristics of an astronaut. They should be able to do the kind of activities that astronauts do.”

That rules 99% of us out......oh well..

Nope, you'll probably get some diaper or bottle. I meant you'll have problems after the test is done.

I wonder what yubba makes of it. Must be a good conspiracy theory to come out of it if NASA is involved. :hmmm:

Because of sudden health problems I had to spend a week in hospital. Most entertaining stuff I could do was sleeping as I was (except last two days) confined to bed. :timeout:

Five days essentially tied into bed except visiting toilet with nurses assistance was excruciating. I can't even imagine what kind of torture that NASA's offer will be. :o

I think it would just be depressing. 70 days of your life in bed, seeing your body lose it's strength... it's not worth $18,000.

No reason you can't do exercise whilst in bed is there? I know a few horizontal exercises that gives a good aerobic workout if properly performed.

As appealing as the money is, and as easy at it seems....

Not for me.

I am sure with the huge amount of Americans who "catass' all day, and do not produce anything for the society, this will be a great boon.

I am so glad the laziest will be NASAs best and brightest in the future. Go from welfare to astronaut. Far cry from Alan Shepard, Neil Armstrong, or Chuck Yeager.

I kinda get why Bush killed their budget.

Silly crap like this is why we do not have deep space capible crafts.

Why would I not do this? I can sum it up in two words

Decubitus Ulcers aka pressure sores aka bed sores

I used to have to take care of people in the hospital with these. It is not something you ever want. :nope:

What is appealing about 12 bucks an hour?

Ever think this is what we get because the republicans killed the budget not the other way around?
