(Sorry if this is the wrong place or a Subsim faux-pas! - Thought I'd pop this here as we had some great relationships with subsimmers when we were II./JG53 and thought we woudl continue that with our new group if possible)

The 2nd Battalion 53rd Air Infantry is a Co-Op unit with a worldwide membership. Whilst we do have a rank system and organisational hierarchy we are all here to enjoy sharing the camaraderie of gaming together within the ARMA 3 game engine.
In order to join us you don't need to have military experience, nor do you need to be the best virtual soldier in the world, we take everyone no matter what skill providing you are a mature person who wishes to share in the co-op nature of this simulation and are willing to be an active and productive member of the Battalion. We accept soldiers of all abilities as the main priorities for us as a group are that any new recruits must 'fit' with the group, our teamwork focus, and of course check that we are the right group for that individual.
We do have a minimum age limit of 18 and accept Recruits of this age or over, we do accept members under this age by invite only, we only ask that you are mature and that you respect your team mates. Each member is required to familiarize themselves with the games general features. This includes setting up the soldier's movements operate weapons and ammunition box, load out and clothing For further information please visit our rules page on our website: www.53rdAirInfantry.com (http://www.53rdAirInfantry.com)
Whilst we are flexible in our approach we also have some basic expectations on members activity levels. A lot of work goes into the group, both in mission creation, campaign narrative and general organisation and upkeep of our various resources. As such we believe that it is only fair to ask our members to aim to attend 50%+ of official missions as activity is the key to not only progressing the group, but also both having more fun with the game and getting more tactical depth in our operations.
We have recently moved across into the ARMA sphere following many, many years as a long established squadron through many incarnations of the IL2 series whilst performing a "war long" virtual campaign where every pilots statistics were tracked giving each pilot their own virtual career within the second world war.
Having recently moved across to ARMA game engine full time we have been slowly organising ourselves and our goals to ensure that we can continue our co-operative and teamwork orientated focus in the new game engine and of course, within the new realm of combined arms operations. With most of these successes under our belts we are now slowly rolling out our new recruitment and training programmes.
We recruit soldiers from across the Globe and have various positions and specialities available. Our group operates primarily as an Air Infantry unit and as such utilises helicopters frequently - however we still maintain tactical and strategic flexibility without being tied to one national, organisational or methodological doctrine. Whilst we utilise the ranks, medals and awards of the US Army we do not associate with any specific nationality - those are used as they are recognisable to most individuals and offer us a relatively easy and intuitive structure. Instead we tend to operate as a nationally undisclosed Battalion operating under NATO command in various flashpoints across the globe.
We are a well established group with a strong, and friendly, community feel having operated together within the IL2 flight simulation series since 2006, branching out into ARMA in an organised way during the ARMA 3 Alpha. We enjoy the realism aspects of tactical combat operations and as such have a rank and award structure to recognise individual progress. We operate a meritocracy that concentrates on teamwork, dedication, training and communication.
We are a Battalion based upon teamwork, however there is also discipline:
Discipline means to be organized, to do things correctly, and to achieve unit cohesion. Throughout your virtual career you will be subject to the rules and regulations contained in the Soldier's Manual and on our website. They will guide you through the complex processes involved in participating in an on-line virtual Battalion, as well as clearly setting out the parameters, responsibilities, and possibilities, inherent to your designated rank or role.
Whilst we have an organisational and rank structure we do not pursue the "hardcore milsim" aspects of making members refer to one-another by rank, sir, or other titles. Ranks within the 53rd are earned through both individual progress and by holding certain rostered positions. This is to ensure a clear command and control chain both within and outside of mission.
Communication within the group is of most importance. We use Teamspeak 3 to communicate during our missions and practices. This is an essential part of being able to operate as part of the team. As ultimately our emphasis is on teamwork and co-operation as a realistic combat unit: pursuing the hobby together to both achieve mission success and enjoy sharing the camaraderie of an organised group.
If you interested in joining a unit that focuses on teamwork within a co-operative campaign that follows a narrative dynamic campaign with a bunch of friendly chaps from various places across the globe then please feel free to check out the 53rd Air Infantry website found here at www.53rdAirInfantry.com (http://www.53rdAirInfantry.com)
We DO NOT use third person view - we strive for an immersive environment: nothing breaks that more than being able to go out of body to see over a wall.
Role Load outs - Each role within a squad has an expected load out - there is flexibility in your options however you must remain within your role remit - taking only the appropriate gear.
Dead is Dead - We utilize a wounding system based off of DAP's wound script, as such death and being killed instantly are options - if you die you are re-spawned on "Valhalla Island" and take no further part in the mission.
Attendance- We all have real world commitments, and as such understand when things come up that prevent you making it to official missions. As mentioned above though we do have some basic expectations for our members in terms of attendance as activity is the key to not only progressing the group, but also both having more fun with the game and getting more tactical depth in our operations.
We use Mods - ARMA 3 is designed to easily utilise user made content and modifications. Many of these mods add to the realism, immersion and options available within the game, as such we as a group take advantage of this by operating our own mod preset. Members are expected to download the mod set and maintain their updates: support is available via the forums if it is needed. We review the modpack at set intervals and clearly announce when any changes are to be made so as to prevent any issues with compatibility or ability to join in official missions.
Please note, as a group we no longer support any of the IL2 flight simulators - although many of our members do continue to fly IL2 in various versions online we as a group operate exclusively within the ARMA 3 game engine. Please feel free to look around our website and see if we are the right group for you, if you have any questions then the public area of the forum can be posted on without registration where we will answer your questions as best as possible.
I hope to see you on the virtual battlefield with us soon.
