Ahoy shipmates im in need of a little help if you please.
Recently my chief engineer has stopped calling out orders such as crash dive, emergency surface and speed orders half ahead etc.
Initially i put this down to my mods or SH3 Cdr, i read the instructions about time compression etc, still no luck. So i uninstalled everything, wiped the folders etc and did a full clean install, and it still happens with vanilla SH3 and with GWX installed afterwards.
I have reinstalled my sound card drivers etc and still no luck
Any help much appreciated.

Wow! the Same problem happened to me on the same day. if anyone knows what to do here it would be greatly appreciated. I too did a complete re-install back to vanilla. No one is calling out orders or even moving there mouths.

Same problem here, popped up two days ago, tracked it down to my antivirus, avast, putting the lipsync file in the virus chest for some unknown reason. Restored it and my crew found their voices again.

Same here.
Just re-installed with GWX a couple of days ago.
First patrol gave me the floating eyeballs, and all subsequent patrols missing sounds.
Same problem as you, Flakmonkey.
Avast did it to me too last night. I found it and restored it after reading Flakmonkey's post.:hmmm:

HW3, are you using Avast also, or a different antivirus? Wondering if the problem is unique to that AV, or more wide-spread.

Flakmonkey you are a "Genius" i have one hair left on my whole head after pulling them all out trying to resolve this issue and you came along and sorted it for me, i never even considered Anti Virus being the issue. Restored the file from the virus chest, loaded up SH3 and tested, it worked
If we were in the same nightclub, in the same flotilla you would not be paying for drinks tonight shipmate :salute:
Oh, how i hate programs interfering with my programs!!:/\\!!
Glad I use Norton.
Good to see the answer found.:salute:

Glad you got it sorted, I went the extra step of adding the sh3 directory to exclusions so avast won't interfere in the future.

Yes I use Avast. It picked up on something in the lipsync.act file that it thinks is suspicious, though we all know it is not. I just added the .act file to the exclusions, so it should not happen again.

Thanks a lot Flakmonkey  This is another of those darned things one would not have guessed in a million years. Avast apparently has automated action as default and consequently I was not aware that it had quarantined stuff without asking my permission. I just can't believe it. How can a program be programmed in a way that it does stuff like that by default :/\\!! When software developers treat the users as idiots this kind of bs happens.
Actually it was me who was an idiot, not checking Avast for automated actions... Never trust any program not to treat you as an idiot :O:

@Sublynx: Feel ya, bro! But check this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=208711 There are some users who want it that way. Pubs aim for what (they think) is the biggest market.
This does appear to be a problem only for Avast users - and easy to fix!
I use Avast, and wonder myself why this don't happen to me. But now i remember that i put the whole SH3 directory in exclusions, some time ago. Because, Avast don't like sh3.exe after H.Sie and Stiebler hardcode fixes.

You're right of course. Most people like it like that and then they end up giving up on SH3 and taking a console or a smartphone instead. The thing with Avast is easy to fix for us who have been typing our little BASIC programs into Sinclair ZX81's, but for the generation that is growing up swiping fingers on their phones and tablets it's too much.
Much appreciation to this community and the modders who help us keeping our games interesting, working and individual :subsim:
Actually, now that I think about it, I did get a warning from Avast of a suspicious action when I launched SH3 but, SH3 covered it up before I could see what it was.:hmmm:

Thanks, this is exactly what happened to me, darn Avast.

Glad Im not the only old fahrt on here :rotfl2:
I was an old fahrt when I learned programing using punch cards, before Basic came along.:03:

Ahoy mates!
After many years I fired up SH3 /GWX again for a play through, to relive the thing again, but only to encounter this problem. I could not locate the lipsync.act file and it is difficult for me to go home and dig out the SH3 DVDs so I was hoping I could find the file somewhere on the internet but no luck so far (the Avast virus vault was empty). I need the file to get my sonar's voice back so he can help me in real time dodge those depth charges.
Not sure where to look for the file now. :hmm2:
