I almost always take a nightly walk. I head through a field, walk an old sunken road by the river, cross an old iron bridge and take the old "scenic trial" and come back. Seldom does anyone walk this old trail as the park it was once part of is closed. I have ran into a few hikers during the day, but never at night, not in two years. Course I always have Bear and carry my holstered pistol for critters, bears, general creatures....
Anyway, Bear is loose running and sniffing around, often I lose site of him or he'll run ahead. I get to the old iron bridge, about 150 yards long with Bear in front and he takes off barking. This is common if he sees someone, he will run up towards them, stop a few yards and bark until I call him back. I saw a man standing in the middle of the bridge. Sort of shocked me, I was about 30 yards away now on bridge. The moon is bright and could see his outline clearly. I told him my dog won't bite and yelling for Bear to come back, which he did and I leased him. I said " How ya doing- I'm just walking - can I help you, ect.," He said nothing.... Sort of concerned, I had hand on gun and continued to talk, finally asked him did he have a problem, need help...nothing. The next thing I know he turns and walks away...Thing is this is an old swinging cable bridge, even when Bear walks on it, it creeks from end to end, a human walking on it, the entire thing shakes and creeks...I heard no noise. I could clearly see a figure walking away. Bear was barking at it, growling, he never growls. I let Bear loose and again he ran towards it, but came running back tail between his legs. I pulled my gun and walked fast towards it, about 10 yards away from it I stopped and then it was gone......
It was still another 20 or so yards to get across it...
This really had me shook up. I don't believe in ghost. I decided to cross and Bear wouldn't, he just sat down in the middle of the bridge. Not once in his life would he not follow me. I stood there in the quite for several minutes and not a sound but common night sounds. I went back got Bear leashed and had to drag him across the bridge. I stood there and noticed Bear was like in his something is there stance watching the woods, I let him off and said "get it" but he just did his low growl. I only had my phone light, didn't want to light it, so slowly walked to the field edge at the woods....saw nothing. Course chills were running through me, but being logical, know it's just a body response. Course, being silly or stupid, I'm even saying "if you're a spirit will you show yourself."
I finally decide to leave, so we crossed back over the bridge. We got about 20 yards down the path from it and the bridge starts creaking, same sounds if someone is walking across it. Bear is on alert looking, we slowly walk back. It stops creaking when we get back to it. I look across it in the moonlight and see nothing. I slowly cross it, see nothing, now with gun drawn. This time I say," "I see you , come out or I'll shoot." Crse, see nothing. We stood there for another 10 minutes, this time I left and went home about a mile away. I got my shotgun, light and took one of the Tibetans this time. I know that dog will attack on command anything... I came back very quite a different way, got to the bridge, let Cliff run about......everything seemed fine, saw nothing and came home....
This shook me up. I know of all the old ghost stories related to the old bridge. One is some CSA deserters were hung from it, other nut stories.
Nothing about this makes any sense.
Crse, my wife hates me walking out there, but says it had to be a person or I was seeing shadows, but it couldn't be, you can't walk on that bridge without it shaking and creeking. I saw something, Bear saw it,......I know I wasn't seeing things, not a shadow... I'm stumped.

Wow...
I honestly don't know what I'd think if that happened. I don't believe in ghosts either....but...
I want to know more...these kinds of things are interesting.
If that happened to me, I'd probably be rattled too...

You can't just open fire because you are unsure of your target....
Idk what to think honestly... Talk to a priest? Idk. :hmmm:
Certainly is curious.

Don't worry, I wouldn't open fire regardless, unless I knew it was human and attacking me.
Logically, I want to say it was a man, but I know it couldn't be. I know how my dog responds, he first acted like he would around a stranger, then he acted like he never has....ever. It would also be impossible for him to get to the other side without me seeing it.
What chilled me is when this figure walked away, the bridge made no sound, none, if I walk on it it creaks loudly and sways... It set me back. I could see a clear figure of a man wearing what appeared to be a coat. It was 10 yards or so in front walking away, and like when I blinked....it was gone. I damn near crapped myself....
The only other option would be someone had to jump off the bridge, but that's about 50 ft to the river and would make a big splash.
I went to our counties ghost forum....I know, silly. Thing is our area abounds in ghost stories due to all the plantations around here falling apart around the river. They're several that use to be along the sunken road I walk....Funny, they say sightings were reported during eclipses, but I wasn't aware that one was tonight, but it was really brighter than normal..
I knew of a few stories, but found several more. Seems they did several hangings from the bridge, but can only find two documented. Today there's no access because it's surrounded by farms with no trespassing signs and the old park that is no trespassing.
Anyway, I'll check it out tomorrow and look around. I'm still wide awake. Gonna set up my old motion video motion cams tomorrow. I was going back out there, but my wife pitched a fit.....she's sure some stranger, but I know it wasn't....Crse, I don't believe it was a ghost, but twas some odd something going on..

Oh that's jes a warp in the ol' space-time continu'um in which your psychologic arrow done conjuncted with his cosmological arrow...briefly. That ol' boy is now back a'wondrin' what HE was'a lookin' at hissef and his ol'nag wife is a'tellin him ta stay in too. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/images/icons/wolf_posticon.gif:o:huh: Wait till you see your best friend and dormmate TOTALLY on fire while you are talking directly to him (he noticed the look on my face and inquired if I was ok) and then have a dream about it THAT night of 9/11/1970; Thirtyone years later, to the day, he is killed on the hundredth floor of building one in his northside window office 20 ft. directly above where Mr. Atta steered the jet... Edgar Cayce, the seer, said there is really NO time; it is an illusion so we may steer our 'corporeal entities' in what APPEARS to be our continuum- put against the logic course I took- the only solution is: he's NOT entirely wrong. It is referred to as 6th sense, sight or whatever. I've had peculiar notions since but none as direct: but I, and those who know me, pay more attention to 'em...and I'm seldom off by much. Chalk it up to minor time warping and move on...keep yer hand on the Lemat an' give ol' Bear an extra dog biscuit, he earned it!:yep:
I was 100% sure I had came upon some stranger. Bear acted totally normal, as he would run up barking loudly at any stranger. Sometimes he scares people, but he'll always stop short and bark until I yell a few times for him to come back...The figure turned facing me and I was concerned, talking to it as a stranger, mainly not wanting it to kick my dog or worry about it. When he or it wouldn't respond to my talking, I got a tad concerned, but I damn near crapped myself when it walked away and I realized the bridge wasn't sounding off....I got real concerned when we were leaving and the bridge sounded off like someone was walking back across it....but nothing there.
The only logical answer that it was a person and they crawled over and under the bridge to hide, but I don't see how, that would make a lot of noise and not sure how well someone could get under it and hang on.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll never know, but it won't stop my nightly walks....

I am not a believer in ghosts either I have never seen something with my eyes to make me question what was that?
I have a few times though (and it seems like this only ever happens when I am alone) I will feel this feeling like someone is there and the feeling varies sometimes it feels like a bad presence and sometimes it feels like a good presence. When I say presence I mean the feeling that get when you do have a living breathing person near you only there no one there you kind feel them I guess not sure how to explain it but you know what I mean.
On place where I really felt this was at the old Civil War POW camp in Andersonville,GA and in that case it gave me an uncomfortable feeling.
Another time it was at this bed and breakfast in Natchez,MS my sister was getting married there and we all stayed in this old plantation house. My wife and I we where a part of the house that had been where the servants lived actually a separate house altogether .In this case what ever it was it made you feel very good inside and content. In this case I asked my wife and my brother and his wife who where in the other room in that part of the property and they said the same thing. It was not constant though just every so often while you where in the house you would get this good feeling all of a sudden for a few minutes.
I do not know if I would call such things a ghost but it is something.I think perhaps in some places you can pick up the presence of person that was in the same place you are only they where there in the past or in the future.

A couple concerns here.
I'm a bow hunter. I don't carry a sidearm when hunting because in this area of the country there isn't anything out there that isn't more afraid of me than I of it. I also have my bow on me. Plus, look big and make noise, etc... I don't live in Grizzly country but we have cougars, black bear and some other cats. When hiking, unless I'm in some known cougar area, I might carry it or some bear mace. Where I hunt is much more sparse than a park with bridges.
My concern is this: why carry your sidearm in your nightly stroll through the park? I ask you this because its a psychological thing. You say no one is around during that time, and man being the greatest threat to you, rather than other animals, what are you so afraid of? You also have your dog with you. Also, if you are so feared in taking your nightly stroll, then should you be strolling at all? Think about it.
It's your right, great thanks for exercising it, but its what is psychologically happening here that concerns me.
Also, as a gun owner, I was trained and told since I was a yougin' not to pull out my gun unless I was going to use it. Because I may not be able to get the first shot off. And if the other person has a firearm I better get the first shot off. If I don't plan on using it, then I wont pull it out. Simple as that. Anyhow, why did you pull your gun? Were you threatened? Or just startled? There is a difference. The shadow was also walking away from you as you say. This would indicate it was not a threat. You were just scared because it behaved weirdly.
This concerns me. I fear you don't cause an accident in the future and find yourself behind bars.
On to other things. You are very brief and imprecise with what you said outloud. What exactly did you say to this "shadow"?

What good would a firearm be against a ghost or spirit anyway?:hmmm:
It is possible that it was a deaf/mute person who being only able to communicate via sign language if they encountered a person they did not known especially a night in such a place they might choose not to use sign language as...
1.the person will likely not read sign.
2. the person might see a hand movement as threat.
I have to agree with periunder you have to be very careful in such a situation and not allow fear to cause you to make a serious mistake.
Sound can travel in very strange ways at night and something that should be easy to hear will not be and other times something very quite can get your attention.Just from my experience living out in the woods many things can throw you and your senses can fool you.
My personal rule of thumb at night or in other low light conditions if I see another person I will keep my distance if they do not pass I will go another way not with my back turned of course.Part of this reasoning is because around here in this part of Florida there are black bears and very rarely cougars.
Once after a summer nights rain I walked out into my field with one of my dogs.It was nice misty out and you could smell the rain in the air still. At the end of the road I stood for a minute looking up at the sky my dog seemed not notice anything. We where standing down wind so any thing downwind of us we could not smell.
I looked down the dirt road and I could just see roughly 50 feet away what I at first thought was a person crouched down sneaking>I own several guns but usually do not carry them unless I am getting ready to go hunt or to do some shooting so I have nothing but by fists. My dog (a lab) she could now smell what ever it was and froze which made me think this must not be a human but something the dog fears.I see then that it was not a person but a black bear now it is only maybe 20 feet away.
I yelled "Holly flying(*) stingrays (*) its a fantastic(*) bear!!" This sudden noise startled the bear and it stopped I yelled at my lab to run and she ran and I threw the glass of water I had in my hand at the bear and it turned and ran and so did I back to the house.
Now normally you can smell a bear from a ways up to 100 yards if you are down wind from one in this case the air was thick with moisture and on top of that the bear was up wind of our noses so even my lab did not smell this bear.

I generally carry a gun during my nightly walks, but only concern mostly about wild dogs that sometime roam the area. It's not that I'm afraid of anything here, I simply feel safer with it. I never pointed it, just concerned for my safety in the dark. Fact is it happened so fast and something wasn't right, mostly because the stranger or whatever it was wouldn't respond to anything I said. Frankly, no one should be in this area, so that concerned me as well.
I don't remember what all I said, as I stated my main concern was to get my dog on a leash. I said several things, such as my dog doesn't bite, hows it going, I'm walking, can I help you....numerous things,,,,no response...it just walked away. I kept my distance..
I can't explain it, all I know is I know that bridge is loud if you walk on it and it freaked me out a tad, but I wanted to know what was up, so I pulled gun and kept it at my waist....I almost don't want to say it, I'm not crazy, I could see a figure outline in the moonlight, like I blinked and it was gone....
Rest assured, ghost or human I wouldn't have pointed or shot unless I felt my life threatened. THing is my house is near along those trails and no one needs to be out there at night....
I can't explain it, it did freak me out, but I was trying to logically make sense when nothing in front of me was logical....I know my dog, I know that bridge, it simply makes no sense to me....Well, it made sense when I thought it was a stranger, but it made no sense when what I saw simply went away during a blink.....it's like your staring at it and you shake your head and say "where did it go"......There was no where for it to go, no where....
I'm still up trying to make sense out of it, probably stay up until the sun comes up and head back out there first light.

Apparently you had a whole conversation with the shadow, and you kept on talking to it, even though it did not respond.
About the gun. You made a commitment to pull the gun, therefore you acted with your gun. Had some other variable happened you may have pulled the trigger, which was the next step. Close call.
If you feel "safer" with your gun, than without it, then without it you feel you are less "safe" than you are with it, in this area. Why do you feel so much less safe without your gun, on this trail, that you insist on carrying your gun?
Also, you say people shouldn't be on this trail. But you are on the trail. Are you not supposed to be there? If not, perhaps you shouldn't trespass with a firearm. You may wind up dead or behind bars.

We have some small bears, but I don't worry much about them. The thing is, when I called Bear back it was about 30 yards away, about half way cross the bridge. It had to know I was there, turned towards me, just wouldn't answer. When it turned and walked away, I walked up faster behind it, but stayed away. I know I was still talking....asking questions, even said stop, gonna call the police, that you're trespassing, etc. Then I lost it, but it was still a good 30 yards to the other end,....I was like WTF.....I then basically ran the distance, the bridge swaying...Nothing.
What I don't get is my dog, never seen him act like that ever....
Again, when we were leaving the bridge was sounding off this time like someone walking across it. At night, I can hear Bear crossing it from 100 yards away and he weighs about 20lbs.....but nothing.
You got to understand, in my mind I had a stranger acting weird near my house out in the hicks...about 10 yards in front and then he was gone...I don't know how to explain it or what I saw.
I know it sounds crazy, I don't believe in ghost, don't know what happened, but I'm not scared about it.

Ok, let me get this right. You said to the shadow that it was trespassing. We're you trespassing?
If not, you have permission to walk this area? Are you playing the neighborhood watchdog or something? You have the gun. Lock n' loaded, and ready to pull it out at a startle.
Irregardless if what you say really happened or not, I'd be ashamed to admit to the world on the internet that you pulled your gun out at a shadow that was walking away.
Guns don't kill people, idiots do.

I don't want to make this a gun thread. I've owned and used guns all my 50 years, I conceal and often open carry, most do around these parts.
My few acres butts up and the old sunken road is the property marker. The large farm behind it about 2000 acres belongs to family, that land meets the old closed park across the bridge. The only people that ever come through are people canoeing the river during the day which is rare, cuz shallow river. The actual park area is probably another mile from the bridge. There is a old scenic trail, but it's closed, even the sign is down, but I have seen hikers checking out the bear slides near the river. Generally I cross the bridge, turn and walk back...
Yea, I was constantly talking to whoever or whatever it was, the more it ignored me, the more forceful I was. If by some chance it was a stranger and it turned to me, I would've stayed my distance. I wasn't going to let the person walk away without some answer of why he was there.
Certainly, at night back in the woods, two strangers meeting up can get dangerous. The bridge is technically family property, my wifes uncle keeps it up so he can get to his fields on the other side, however legally anyone can use the river or the bridge over it, but only if it's river related.
Rest assured, I wouldn't shoot anyone unless I felt my life was threatened. Now, if he turned and ran at me and I couldn't run fast enough to get away, yea, he would've probably got shot.

Some advice. Keep your gun in your holster unless you know your gonna use it. Because you just pulling it out may cause a counter reaction that could result into something you wanted to prevent in the first place.
I don't know about your state, but as far as I know, in this country you can't shoot someone for just trespassing, who trespasses on your land and stays out of the house.

Lets flip this on its head.
Let's say what you saw was a real person who didn't disappear. If the person you saw was me. If I had not talked to you, turned away and started walking away (maybe having a bad day and didn't want to talk or pissed off at the world or just stupid drunk), and you started running after me with your gun drawn. I would have thought you were a loon. I probably would have called the police because you were threatening me with your firearm as you were running towards me as I walked away. I would have told them there was a mad man shouting and pointing guns at people over by this trail next to the park.

Are you not reading.. All the land on both sides of the river belong to family, marked with no trespassing signs. Once you cross the bridge, only about 10 acres is family, but family owns land both sides. On one side it runs up to the old closed park, but we have a gate blocking the road with a no trespassing sign. They're probably 4 houses here abouts surrounded by 1000's of acres and I know them all. Yes, there is an old park closed, next to it an old golf course, but that's about 3 miles away and across an even larger river. Now, beside the old park are old scenic trails, but those are across the river attached to both park and family land.
Now maybe you don't mind people roaming your land at night and not responding to you, but round these parts, well, I wouldn't shoot you, but these old farmers might. In fact, I tried to act nice, cuz I was caught off guard, got my dog, asked could I help, that I'm walking. It was no response and him walking away that concerned me and I felt threatened. I told him I would call cops, etc....That would make any normal person respond. Now, when I lost total site of him, seemingly into the thin air, dang right I felt threatened,,,
Yep, we do sometimes deal with people using the river, it' their right because all rivers are federal, legally, they can leave the river and use the bridge because it crosses the river, but no one dumb enough to do that around here at night, they never do and if this was a stranger, he wasn't canoeing and was a trespasser. Sorry, you on our land, at night and don't respond, I'll consider you a threat. Yep, I may remove my gun because you concern me, but I won't shoot you unless you become threatening...That's basically how police do it....
Family owns all the land on this side all the way down and past the bridge way back. I'm sort of in my back yard here taking this picture. Once you cross that bridge, family owns it up to the old closed park...A few miles down past the park on another river this one runs into is a closed mill. The park was actually a previous mill park, but closed with the mill. The county purchased it, but closed it within a few years cuz it's too far out,

I've seen specials on tv about North/South Carolina and there is, indeed, quite a bit of ghost "activity" around there. I don't personally believe....but there are questions.
I had forgotten about the eclipse. :/\\!!
Anyway, the no sound thing really is weird. That's the part that would get at me a little bit. I'm trying to picture that and I get the ol' chill down my spine.
There've been times I've unexpectedly come upon people on private property while hunting but i've never seen anybody who didn't make noise when they walked.
I mean...on carpet or hardwood I can walk pretty darn quiet....but on a squeaky bridge? :hmmm:
EDIT: On the next eclipse, go on the walk again with a camera. Snap a picture of whatever this thing is.

Had a similar experience a few years ago.
Night walk, moonlight was enough for me too see the road and some surroundings and I see a figure walking towards me with the dog growling.
When I turned on the flashlight on my mobile to see who's there the figure dissapeared, but the dog kept growling.
I never walked that fast home :D

Armistead I do believe you saw something. I have my share. Something will forever be ingrained in my memory that happened when I was a small child.
Having said that, I am a person of science and logic. I believe there can be manifestations that science cannot yet explain, but will be able to someday.
I wish you posted a photo of the bridge and its surroundings.
A few questions come to mind?
a) Did that person move his/her arms, or just walked away?
b) Did you have a chance to see his/her facial features?
c) Did you by any chance hear any faint sounds, like a rope or cable being pulled?
Because (without being there and without a photo of the location) I can imagine someone pulling a prank on you, with a cardboard human silhouette, pulled by cable. The disappearing act could then be easily done by rotating the "thing" sideways. It being thin, and in the dark, you wouldn't see it.
My dogs go crazy if they spot a suspect silhouette 50 ft away at night, only to find it's just a tree branch or a plastic bag blown by the wind. You know better than me dogs trust their noses as we trust our eyes to identify things. If they can see but not smell something, either they ignore it as non-existing, or they go crazy and/or fearful for not understanding it. "How can it be there and I can't smell it? grrrrrrrr "
Bottom line: I believe you saw something, but I am also a firm believer in perfectly logic explanations. Favouring science, I keep an open mind and believe there are still many things science has not figured out, just yet.
And please post a photo of the bridge :D

This will be my last response about guns with you. We have a severe feral dog problem here on the NC/VA border. I've shot several around my house, as they get in garbage and I have several dogs. They also attack and kill sheep. I mostly worry about Bear coming under attack when we walk, day or night. We also now keep a few mountain dogs that keep the wild dogs and coyotes away.
I totally agree that we should be responsible gun owners, but because I carry a gun on my property doesn't mean I'm a cowboy wanting to shoot it up with every critter that comes my way. I was an avid hunter up to 10 years ago, I don't even care to deer hunt anymore. Yea, we do love shooting crap up, but usually bottles and watermelons...
I do understand your concern about safety, that's a good thing, but you keep posting like I was running around screaming with my gun pointed at a possible human. I simply removed it from my holster and had it by my side when I felt threatened..

Well, I'm fairly agnostic, for me any possible logical answer must be considered and even when one isn't found, I don't need to look for something outside a possible logical answer....
Yes, I couldn't make out face features, but saw a clear outline of a man, man movements, not to mention Bear went from his routine sniffing to his crazy human is there mode and ran up to it barking like mad..
Anyway, I've put some pieces together. I first suspected my uncle may have been messing with me, but we know better. One, if I would've been walking my tibetan, he knows that dog doesn't mess around, plus we don't play jokes knowing people are generally armed.
Armistead
10-19-13, 11:47 AM
Here are the clues I put together.
My uncle went there first this morning as I fell asleep until 9am. He found a pair of old boots tied together hanging on the bridge rail.
A county sheriff lives on a farm on the other side of the park, he also patrols the park. Heck, a few years ago they found a dead murdered person dumped there. He says he ran off an older tall skinny black man that was living in one of the old park shelters a few weeks ago. He says the man is strange, a drunk and probably the type that would walk away without talking...He said when he saw him, he called him to his car and the man walked away and totally ignored his verbals, so he had to go get him, but he never ran, just tried to walk away
I could find no footprints other than my own by the bridge or down by the river.
Here is what I want to think. Maybe this old man was worried about being found in the park and wandered further back on uncles land. Not sure why these shoes were hanging there, but maybe that explains why I didn't hear as I should've, someone was walking with shoes off. The only possibility how he seemingly vanished is that he crawled over the side of the bridge. The bridge has several ladder built in rungs that go down about 6ft along the sides so you can tighten cables. Still, very dangerous and I don't know how he would've gotten over the cables without shaking the bridge. More, when Bear wouldn't cross and just sat on the bridge, maybe that was because he was with the stranger. Once I yell at him about barking, he becomes very calm with strangers. I think when I left and I thought I heard someone walking on the bridge, maybe he climbed back over shaking it and ran away without his shoes....
That's the most reasonable answer, because I don't believe in ghost. But I swear, the figure seemed to vanish right in front of my eyes...
Anyway, shoes mean human activity. Still, I took my shoes off, my uncle with his back turned on the other side knew when I stepped on the bridge, even when I was on my tiptoes trying to walk quite, those cables creak terribly....
Crse, I do know many old homeless folk know many a trick to survive and live without getting caught.
Yea, I got rattled last night, still a lil baffled, but don't need any more ghost in our county. I hate I posted in our ghost forum, because we have so many ghost hunters.. I cleared it up with a few lies, that I found it was a man and had the cops remove him....they got a good laugh. Don't need any kids trespassing around here taking their girls to the ghost bridge. God knows they've burnt down several old homes partying and ghost playing.
I put my hunting auto motion camera out, so maybe it'll catch something..

We have many great stories, most connected to the CW era. Many of them are attached to the slave plantations. The family Hairston lived here and they were the largest slaveholders in the South. They have numerous plantations still standing, many gone, plus numerous more. Several are attached to famous NC ghost stories.
I do a lot of metal detecting on all the plantations around here I can. Most are run down or falling in long covered by woods, but if you picture it, you can see how large they were.
One famous story, one plantation owner was known to be cruel. He was nothing more than a slave breeder. He fathered several children with slaves, once after a baby was born, he promptly took it from the mother and threw it in a well. The well use to be here, later built over.
http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu235/Armistead1424/Armistead1424029/well_zps74b68d0d.jpg
They say at night you can hear a baby crying. Several have posted audio, sounds good, but how could you trust it. Crse they say the babies mother roams around at night, a greenish figure..
Anyway, on this plantation and common on most, slaves met deep in the woods to worship. They would carry a large sugar iron pot {think big} and gather around it and sing into it so noise wouldn't travel at night. The story is that at night, if you go behind the existing slave quarters
http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu235/Armistead1424/Armistead1424028/1175630_506718559416211_1057397863_n1_zps79790911. jpg
you can hear slaves singing. I was metal detecting back there, lil windy and I heard the sounds of moans, almost human. I looked and looked and I found numerous bottles positioned in every direction on a old rockpile, mostly overgrown with vines. Boy, were those bottles singing tenor and bass....I could imagine it very weird at night.

I once shot my brother in the leg practicing quick draw, so I try to be much safer now and don't drink more than one glass of wine before I load up and go for my walk. If anything, it would make me more steady, as I have a nerve condition and get the shakes...so don't worry about that, I'm a safe gun owner...
I'm also concerned about the Feds taking over, slimy terds. If the Feds start another war of Northern aggression on the South, we will revolt and be glad to do so.
Calm down, if I see a stranger and get scared again, I'll aim for the leg if I have to shoot.
Also, I don't think it possible to murder a dead ghost, so I'm not worried about it too much. If it's a trespasser that refuses to respond, I believe I have the right to shoot him. I'm good friends with the Sheriff, he won't give a crap and we don't get charged around here for capping trespassers. Heck, an old farmer here killed two men messing with his car not long ago. One he blasted in the back. The DA accepted he felt threatened, no charges at all.

I'm not sure that's how the law works friend. If I posted a sign that said, "anyone who went on this property had to fart at least once or you'll be shot"; I'd still be a murderer if I killed someone who didn't fart. Just because it's a sign, doesn't make it law.

It doesn't matter what the culture is. I'm pretty certain the law in this country is universal that you can't just blow someone away just because they step foot on your property.
And here's a toast to if you blow someone away for trespassing on your property, they catch you and hang you good. Hang you twice if need be.

It doesn't matter what the culture is. I'm pretty certain the law in this country is universal that you can't just blow someone away just because they step foot on your property.
And here's a toast to if you blow someone away for trespassing on your property, they catch you and hang you good. Hang you twice if need be.
:Kaleun_Cheers:
You don't know much about the South, we don't hang people anymore, least none that is legal....
Anyway, you weren't there, so you don't know anything...It still could be a ghost and I reserve the right to shoot it.. Hopefully ghost can read signs. If anything, it'll be a warning to other possible ghost roaming nearby to stay off our property.
I checked several cases of people shooting ghost that turned out to be humans. One man unloaded on a ghost he thought was his dead ex wife, a bullet hit his neighbor in the apartment next to him, he wasn't charged, just a few weeks in a mental hospital. Who wouldn't take a few shots at their dead ex wife ghost, I know I would've....
Of all the cases I've read, if you really think you shot a ghost that turned out to be human, you got off with a few weeks vacation in a hospital.
google it....

In my state we still hang. Hang em good.
Don't get me started on Southerners shootin' ghosts.

Just on the phone with my deputy friend. He said he would patrol the park tonight and let me know he would walk to the bridge and check it out.
I've already got my video cam ready. I damn near thought of hanging a ghost out there myself, but thought better of it. Be our luck we end up shooting each other.
Funny, I asked him was he going alone....he said "no":har:

Well, I don't think it's a ghost, but I still can't explain it. However, lets assume it's a ghost, not sure the right protocol to deal with it, other than if it shows on video and I create another ghost story that no one believes.
On the ghost forum, people bring up "old black John" a black free man that owned slaves, had a small mill on the river. One of his slaves killed him near abouts...
I'll be out later, hopefully a calm walk with no issues, but I am stumped to explain it...

Was it foggy or misty ??
Maybe there was someone before the bridge and his shadow was projected onto the droplets hanging above the bridge. That's why you heard nothing.

Jim, I saw something for sure, I'm not joking about that.....
Here is a guy making fun of "Satan's Bridge" near me...
It's pretty cool, but the old bridge is gone. It got it's name because people dumped all their dead animals there.
This is near one of the many plantations, numerous good ghost stories.

Don't get me wrong, I believe you to be truthful but looking at the course this thread is taking, perhaps it is par for the course as far as GT goes.
I can't honestly say I've had a similar experience but if I had I doubt I'd be posting it here :):03:

I don't have an issue with people walking around with guns on their property, or even looking to find ghosts. But I do have an issue with gun owners drawing their guns on people walking away who clearly aren't a threat. That's the only quell I have with Armistead, everything else is ok in my book.

A few pics, as you can see no where to hide under as it is suspended on cables. Probably doesn't show but they're are ladder rungs going down each support beam, but don't see how that would work or how he could do it.

Hopefully I'll catch him or it tonight on camera.....Gonna wait until late to walk when the moon is high and bright. I don't believe in ghost stories, but I'm told to stand in the middle and say "Old Black John" 3 times at midnight under a full moon and he probably will make himself known...
I paid a visit to Mami, she's a slave from the actual Hairston plantation and a magic or voodoo lady that sells crap at her palm reading house. She gave me some potion, put some leaves in it, whiskey, garlic for sure, some other crap, says it will protect me and for me to leave it as a gift.
We'll see how it goes later tonight.

OK,
I decided I would go check my cam and take the potion and leave on the bridge that Mami gave me... It's really freaky out tonight, hard fog mist, full moon. Not sure I will go back at midnight and call for Old Black John....
Anyway, my hunter auto camera a lil old, but I got a few hits, but I can't make it out. I had flash off, but use a setting that should pick up well in moon light, but didn't work so well.
I got this pic, but I can't really see anything. I almost see a shape or something, but hard to tell, almost like an outline with a arm reaching, like a white shirt pulled up to the elbow....but could be seeing things.

edit,
Nothing but white blobs. Tested cam and can't get it to do the same with any setting. Anyway, I did notice in this one I thnk I see the bridge end post in background.

That's quite the story and I don't blame you for being creeped out especially the part about the bridge not making any noise and the way the dog acted.
About thirty years ago, my parents were in their bedroom along with the dog who was napping. All of a sudden he woke up and started acting strangely. They said it was like he could see someone besides them and even got up on his hind legs as if he was playing. They didn't say how long this went on for but eventually he went back to his bed and fell asleep again. About thirty minutes later we got the phone call telling us our uncle had passed away. He was always very popular with us kids as he loved to do magic tricks but he also loved animals and often played with our dog. If my mom was the only one who witnessed it, I would have had a hard time believing it but my dads not the bull****ting type so I can only conclude it must of happened the way they said. I don't know if dogs can sleep walk but if so, it was quite the coincidence that he did it when he did.

The pics with the blobs.
Could it be a combination of moisture on the camera and someone with a flash light pointing it in the general direction of the camera?

I almost see a shape or something, but hard to tell, almost like an outline with a arm reaching, like a white shirt pulled up to the elbow....but could be seeing things. I tried to enhance it, hard to tell, what do you guys think, nothing here. It's not me and no one knows camera is there, well hid.
Whiskey....Tango....Foxtrot.
I see it...but like you, i'm not sure I'm seeing what I'm seeing.
Nothing but white blobs. Tested cam and can't get it to do the same with any setting.
Odd...
Ever thought of a video camera? Does your game camera do that?
My brother has one that will take video and save it all nice and digital on an SD Card. You might be able to get one for under $100 that does that. I bet you could....and maybe an IR Camera might change this up a bit.
Anyway...I took the one picture and did a bit of enhancing on my own with my phone.
If you look, you can clearly see the bridge posts and not-so-clearly what looks like a person in between them. You have a bright enhancement...IMHO, you can see it a bit better here.

Spooky...
And on this other one of the blobs...
I don't know if it means anything...but the way the circles intersect look like a head and shoulder...Just something that stuck out at me.

The pics with the blobs.
Could it be a combination of moisture on the camera and someone with a flash light pointing it in the general direction of the camera?
I don't know, but I don't think moisture would be almost layered perfect circles.
I got the one pic without blobs, then about 10 seconds later about 12 blob pictures one after the other, about 14, then no more pics.
Again, I cld be seeing things, but I swear I see a shape, but more the arm of a white man with his arm sort of up and a white shirt sleeve or something pulled up on the arm....Still, you would think it would be more clear, but sort of a body outline. It could be me just wanting to see something not there.
Didn't go back out, got interested in boxing match on HBO, maybe get more pics tomorrow.

Main thing if you look to me is a white spot center picture, almost like a sleeve pulled back, sort of round like it's around a arm and I see a hand.
It does appear something is center, course something set the cam off, so somethings did it.
On the ghost forum, ghost hunters say the round circles are orbs, some sort of energy ball in mass amounts and they want to come setup....I may or may not let them. Guess it would be fun, they got a bunch of cool equipment.
Not sure about the blobs, why so much light in circles, I did pictures with flash on and they just look like nice lighted shots showing up, but I had flash off, cuz if person I didn't want that to show and someone steal it.
Anyway, time for bed..

Now, there I didn't pick up on that right away. To me, that looks like an odd angle/position for an arm to be in. It's almost like this...thing...is on it's side the way you describe it.
The way the hand is positioned seems to be at the wrong angle from the sleeve.
I will say, it kinda looks like a sleeve...but that's not what I get out of it. I see that as maybe exposed skin.

Now this here. I've heard of this before...
Down near my grandma's old place, there's a town in Missouri that's known for the Spooklight.
Here's a video that the Missouri Ghost Hunter Society made
Joplin Hornet Spook Light (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozfhB2b_OP8)
Excerpt from the Wiki Article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spooklight)
The Spooklight, also called the Hornet Spooklight, Hollis Light and Joplin Spook Light, is a mysterious visual phenomenon allegedly experienced by witnesses in a small area known locally as the "Devil's Promenade" on the border between southwestern Missouri and northeastern Oklahoma west of the small town of Hornet, Missouri.
Despite the fact that it is named after a small, unincorporated community in Missouri from which it is most commonly accessed, the light is most commonly described as being visible from inside the Oklahoma border looking to the west. The Spooklight is commonly described as a single ball of light or a tight grouping of lights that is said to appear in the area regularly, usually at night. Although the description of the light is similar to that of other visual phenomena witnessed throughout the world, the term "Spooklight" when standing alone generally refers to this specific case. Numerous legends exist that attempt to describe the origin of the Spooklight, one of which involves the ghosts of two young Native American lovers looking for each other.
According to most accounts, it has appeared continually since the late 19th century,[1] although it was generally not well known to anyone but locals until after World War II. Some date the first encounters with the light back to the Trail of Tears in the 1830s. However, the first documented sighting is generally accepted to have occurred in 1881, although some report sightings as far back as 1866. The earliest published report dates back to 1936 in the Kansas City Star.
In 1946 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers supposedly studied the "Hornet Light", but could not find a cause for it. In their words, it was a "mysterious light of unknown origin".[1] Early residents of the area reported seeing lights in the forest, over their land, or even in their yards.
During the 1960s, there was a general store in Hornet that gave out information about the light to sightseers. It included a "Spooklight museum". There have also been various establishments along the Missouri-Oklahoma state line that served a similar function, but they have since closed. During the 1960s and 1970s the roads where the Spooklight usually appears were often packed with parked vehicles and people hoping to get a glimpse of the mysterious light.
It's always kinda interested me....we used to go out to Joplin all the time...
Some day, I'd like to poke around a bit over there out of curiosity...
If you've ever seen the movie Cars.... They reference this with "Mater and the Ghost Light"
EDIT: This led me to a video compilation of Haunted Locations in Missouri...
There's one not even an hour away... Arcadia Academy in the Arcadia Valley...but the one that gets me...is only 30 minutes away....
Southeast MO State is supposed to be haunted by a poltergeist, the music building has apparitions that mess with electronics and radio...and there's an unremovable bloodstain in the theater along with another apparition.
I know of some others... The old MO State Pen is supposed to be haunted and so is Jefferson Barracks.
But as I watch this....it's a little chilling to know that when I was at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, I was in the same hospital that is haunted by dead children and poltergeists. Now that I look back, I was around 10 at the time I used to go there....man, if they had kept me overnight in the children's ward and I had seen a dead kid.... I would probably be fighting PTSD.
Movies, books, and whatnot...they don't scare me...but when this crap hits the fan and you've been there....it kinda gives you a little chill.

Creepy stuff. :o
And I experienced something like that around 10 years ago with my dog as well.
He was a Siberian Husky, foolhardy, not afraid of nothing that idiot.
We went out for a stroll at night and at some point he just denied to go any step further. No matter what I tried, no chance. He was staring down a rural-road, so was I. Nothing at all. No sound, no man, no beast, nothing.
I tried to convince him further and even pulled on the lead. Nothing. He was pushing all four legs forward into the ground, staring at something like...well... he would see a ghost.
When I felt something just isn't right, we went another path. My father experienced the same thing at the same place. Beside the road where he refused to go on is an old small house in a mini-forest. No one lives there, it is more for storage or whatever, I don't know. Surely no fancy ghost stories about this place, but we never understood his reaction.
Don't believe in ghosts and demons and all that myself. I'm certain this is all made up stuff and just, well, stories. But moments like this are sure creepy.
I've no clue what you saw but the orbs look like out of focus light sources and a bit of lens flare to me:

C'mon down anytime Red, maybe we can figure it out. We have a lot ghost here abouts and I know where all the plantations are.
One true story regarding Windsor Plantation is that a lady bought it in the 20's. She was killed on the RR tracks. Her daughter took over the plantation after that, years later her car stalled on the RR tracks and she was hit and killed by a train. She was good friends with my wifes mother in the 50's. They say you park on the RR tracks, you can see a train light coming and often a ghoulish woman.
Anyway, I see something that doesn't belong in that pic, obvious it set it off, but it looks like a white person to me. In one picture the hand almost seems to be making a peace symbol, but that's me... I won't argue the blobs may be a camera issue, but I don't know how.
If you come, we can call out for Old Black John as I have the formula or code to make him appear. I don't believe in that stuff, but lil creepy to do by myself. No one really wants to do it, because they sat he will haunt your dreams the rest of your life. I think it's just a mind trick that messes people up, but why tempt fate if you can get someone else to do it...
Maybe I got more pics, I'll get down there later and check it out..

C'mon guys, be serious for a bit... Do any of you not see something in the darker picture, like a shape with a arm in the center? Maybe it's nothing, but something set my cam off.
I did an outline of like a body I see, but mainly like a arm, elbow down, hand up, like it's reaching. My cam was about 20 feet before the bridge, so the body I see isn't on the bridge, but about 10 ft from my cam...
Just me?
The arrow point to an arm, like body turned sideways to the left a tad and arm reaching out. For sure I see a sleeve or skin, something there sort of white, but looks to be like a sleeve pulled back. Wish I could draw on this chrome book.

I can see what looks like an arm, like someone is reaching for his/her head, but everything else, including the immediately adjacent areas, simply look like featureless photographic "noise".
Except of course for the bridge in the back.
It's as if the arm was detached.
Oh great, a ghostly arm that floats around slapping the living crap out of people. :haha: I can imagine the movie tittles: " The Undiscovered Slapping Arm", "Slapping Arm First Contact", The Slapping Arm's Revenge", The Slapping Arm Strikes Back", The Return of the Slapping Arm".
Now back to serious.
You'd need a camera with good night shots capability, but then, those are expensive and you'd not leave it out there overnight. I know I wouldn't.

I find this thread to be the most interesting ever since I joined in. An ongoing real life mystery investigation.
All you'd need is a Game Camera with an IR Flash...and those aren't as expensive as you'd think.
Like I said, my little brother has one that probably cost no more than 60$
You can get the Hunten Outdoors GSC31 - 20IR 2MP IR Camera for $44.99 on Amazon. It takes color photos during the day and Black/White at night. The only downside I see is that it takes C batteries...
There is also the Moultrie A-5 Low Glow IR Game Camera that you can get for 60$
The only problem with that is the "low glow" that'll show in the dark...shouldn't be too noticeable unless somebody is looking right at it. But it is a better quality camera than the Hunten Outdoors...
But for your purposes, either one would work. There are better quality ones that cost a little more and then there are really good ones for 120-150$ but that's too much.
If you turn anything up Armistead, I'll be glad to look at it.
I agree with Bruce

It's hard to know about the boots. It's somewhat common to find stuff on the bridge, cause people canoe under it and will stop and get on it, just never seen anyone canoe out there at night. The boots could've been there, who knows.....anyway,,,,,,,,

Well, went and got cam tonight. Weird how I get nervous walking there now. About halfway heard a loud scream, probably a cat, that went crashing down through the woods. Some animal for sure, but it had me on my toes. Glad I had Bear still on his leash. He always runs ahead and crosses the bridge before I do, not this time. He didn't bark, just sat there. I started across, he wouldn't come, very strange, never before. I leashed him and he did fine. Got to other side, got camera, didn't notice anything strange other than Bear...
This is what I got from last night from about 12:15 in order from first to last. I'll show dark ones first as taken

It's almost like some figure moving forward up the trail as it slopes down from the cam. Doesn't look human, can't tell, just some outline I may be seeing or some camera noise. Anyway, it set the camera off....

I see the outline in the first dark one....but the other dark ones you can't see much at all.
The first outline looks like a hooded human maybe... :hmmm:

I don't really see anything is the 2nd one, maybe an outline. I think I see something in the first one and sort of the same outline in the 3rd one. The 3rd one would be the closet to the cam coming up the trail.... Then again, could be nothing.
I would just like to know what's setting it off. I can't get it better, but I'm gonna cut the flash on and see what happens. If someone steals it, no big deal...
Still baffled, just strange Bear acts so different at the bridge. I feel strange and get chills there, but sure it's just a lil nerves.
Hopefully Bear will get back to normal soon...
I am gonna go pick up my friends good video motion camera, maybe some video with good sound would help, it's also got night vision..

Now we're gettin' somewhere!
I'm excited to see what this turns up.
Ever thought of putting a walkie-talkie out on the bridge and sitting a safe distance away and trying the Old Black John thing?
Maybe it wouldnt work...but hey...when you brainstorm, no idea is too stupid to write down.
Now in the third shot, how close would the thing be to the camera?
Because I think i see an outline...but it's a little bit to be more than 6 feet away unless the camera zooms

I don't really believe in ghost, so if the ghost hunters want to try the Old Black John thing, fine with me. May sound silly, but people that get wrapped up in that can go nuts later. If you want to stand on the bridge and say his name under a full moon, I'll pay room and board for you and video it...
I know it's silly, but out there by myself standing in the dark, I get tempted to try it, but I back out. Like I said, don't believe these old stories, but not gonna tempt fate, don't want him haunting my dreams and driving me nuts.....That stuff can start head games.
I've got the code from Mami, if you want me to give you all the steps, maybe you can try it and he'll come to your house and leave me alone....:yeah:

Oh, about the cam. If you cross the bridge, a trail turns left. I put it in a bush facing down the trail. It slopes heavily down from the bridge, mild turn. Simply, it would catch someone coming up the trail slope to the bridge. To me it looks like something is coming towards the bridge, the 3rd shot passing the camera about 4-8 ft away going up the trail passing the camera.
It's not solid, but I swear I see some outline.......whatever it is....
The first shot sort of creeps me out. Remember the camera is fixed, so something is setting it off and the pictures seem to progress, at least they change and not the same.
I did get one more pic, but could make nothing of it at all..., hey, but no bright circles whatever those were.

I wouldn't trust much these images in the dark.
The human brain is programmed to single out shapes that look like a person or animal. Could be a ghost, though, but most probably it's just a glitch in camera or shadow play.
And the orbs ?? Dust or water droplets.
Video cameras are better. If the blob is moving, then we have something to analyse.
The best thing will be to get a heat signature camera. Doesn't have a flash so no one will notice and steal it and ghost are supposed to leave a cold spot. Perfect for excluding live things that leave a warm spot.
Keep working on it, I love this thread :)

I understand and agree. The mind can play tricks. I'm gonna let a ghost hunter set up, hopefully this weekend, he has great equipment. I mainly don't want humans wandering around there as I let the Tibetans run loose at night and they'll eat animals, ghost humans...anything.

Oh man - WS used to be my old stomping grounds. I grew up in Lexington (da world's best barbecue!) and the entire triad was my ole stomping ground.
Leaves are turning well - a lot of higher elevation stuff turned early, but I have some great bright reds and yellows in the yard - though I am south of Asheville a bit and not so high.
Good luck with the ghost hunt - let us all know how it goes!

Guns work when you have a warning, enough time to draw them....Panthers don't give you a warning, and they come from where you least expect them, above you.
So, you're strolling along, and suddenly you're flat on your front with a very heavy weight on your back and your throat is being squeezed shut by a pair of very strong jaws. If you're lucky you lose consciousness quickly. :yep:

They're originally bred to fight wolves, leopards and other mountain cats, but not sure they could take a large panther, but our original Asian could handle this one. The average Tibetan has a bite force about 600 PSI, we had one hit 712, that's in the lion range. I know several ranchers out west that use them to guard herds against mountain lions and wolves. They will almost always kill a wolf, but one rancher had two that fought a large mountain lion. They killed it, but he had to have one dog put down and the other got mauled pretty good.

Well, a Panther is essentially a melanistic Leopard, so in theory it would be in its element, but it would be a brutal fight, like that large mountain lion but probably a smidge worse.
To be honest though, thinking about it, you're probably better taking the Tibetans rather than a gun, the Panther can smell the Tibetans and would probably not risk attacking you, it can't smell a gun. :03:

I was shocked when I saw the story today. When I heard that cat scream last night, that was new, but I was more concerned when it sounded like a large buck crashing through the woods running away from old Bear.... I've run into bobcats, that wasn't one....but don't know what it was.
This certainly isn't a cat in this area, if true, probably some exotic or mixed with a mountain cat.
A lady did video a large cat in her backyard a year back, got on the news. The NC zoo here said it was an African lion. That was a big cat and no one has seen it since.
I'm thinking I'll let all 8 Tibetans loose at night for the time being....

Yea, most cats will run in that situation, even the big ones. Tibetans have a pack instinct like wolves and fight better as a pack, that's how they guard herds against large prey, pack attack....

Not a puma, mountain lion or catmount (no tail visible)I see all over in CA at night and on an airbase I patrolled: they eat Mule Deer and feral pig here but looks like a black Jaguar and they are coming back into the states to fill the top end predator void in vast areas. Verrry dangerous, stealthy and in command; unless someone's illegal pet leopard(more likely) has escaped.:hmmm: the pugs would tell all-and that one looks a little under fed to me. Jaguars have been 'spotted' in all southern boarder states in recent years.
It's funny, the NC wildlife agency says they're no more large cats here, even though they're numerous videos showing some large mountain cats. I've certainly seen tracks of large cats by the river. The other issue is so many exotics are being let loose, mix breeding, I think that will be an issue if it continues. I have no doubt we have mountain cougars running around here being near the mountains.
One thing I hate is the coyotes have become so numerous here, just everywhere. Our Tibetans have killed one, those things are just smart enough to stay away.
Tell ya , life's getting tough here, coyotes, large feral dog packs, mutant owls, mountain lions, bigfoot and now damn ghost..... FYI: in CA the last three puma attacks involving humans(moving away joggers in remote trails) didn't waste time other than from behind but: two lower fangs to the occiput (upward) and the two tops down on the cranium for instant paralysis (medulla area hemorrhage)and a convenient 'handle' to carry the prey between the forlegs to a hasty scanty burial for casual later dining. The survivors (2)are up against severe brain inflammation as a cat's mouth is mortally infectious (they don't brush regularly):D and mental incapacity. In India they wear masks BACKWARDS to ward off tigers who find primates easy pickins. 'Fraidy' cats don't like ya' looking at 'em! Might work, but I ain't a gonna' test the theory if I go joggin'...who am I kiddin' i'll just bash it with my defibrillator...CLEAR!
Big cats aren't daft, they'll go for the fastest and easiest way to kill, and it's hard unless you've seen one face to face to appreciate the weight of a creature like that. Good points on the inflammation, perhaps an incident of the survivor envying the dead there.
Just a week ago I walked for miles in the woods by the river in the moonlight with my lil dog, now I'm walking with 2 Tibetans, two guns, bear mace, flashlights and holy water......life on the river getting tough......To top it off, I have to come home to my wife after my walks..whoa is me
I showed my mother the pic, she's pretty wised up on big cats, she's been researching the ones in our country for a long time, and she reckons that's a melanistic Leopard aka a Panther, you can see the mottled coat where the spots would be on a Leopard, and if it is an escaped or ejected exotic pet, then that's even more troublesome since it will have even less fear of humans than a wild animal.
Honestly if I were a trooper in your area, I'd give serious thought to a sweep of the area with some thermals on a chopper.

I think this guy explains it well and why nothing is done about it..

He explains it well indeed, and we have a semi-similar situation in the UK, there's more of these creatures around than people are told or realise. Occasionally one will be found, or someone will claim to have been attacked by one, but for the most part they keep to the wilds and stay away from us.
We had one hunt, back in 1988 when the Royal Marines went searching on Dartmoor but they found nothing but a wandering fox.
He also makes a good and oft overlooked point about hybridisation, and the various subspecies of big cat that have come about because of it. The guy certainly knows his stuff, kudos to him.
I wonder when radio or satellite tagging will be made compulsory for domestic big cat purchases, it would certainly help with tracking them...

I don't have to come home, I could drown myself. My wife always tells me if I don't ever come back home, I better be dead.:o
Well....it's better to come home then! :O:
My wifes uncle called, he found a axe head uncovered on the riverbank. He says it dates back to the 1800's.
Why was he down digging at the river? :hmmm:
"stay on the yaller brick road."
Nah, I don't believe in wizards and that silliness, I'll stick with Mami, best voodoo priestess around these parts...She said she could come and put Old Black John at peace if he was really there for $200.00. I think a good investment?
Now I don't like all that voodoo stuff...and I won't stop you from using her skills....but I just don't like all the voodoo...
It just...seems creepy.... Like it could cause more problems than it could solve.

No, he wasn't digging, just stuff gets uncovered from time to time due to water flow and flooding. I metal detect all the rivers, lot of Revolutionary and CW history.....
She does voodoo stuff I guess, more a spiritual talker, but a good baptist.....

I have't been down in a few days, but nothing on my cam that doesn't make sense, a deer or two.
The only thing very strange the last time I walked Bear there, he won't go near the bridge. I leash him now through the woods, but let him run the trail. He got to the bridge, looked at it and ran. I thought he ran off, but he ran all the way back home. Something down there has him spooked.
Again, not that I believe in ghost, but the ghost hunting group is running my pics through there software and said they will set up a cam.
If I get something new, I'll post it....Maybe the next full moon if it's Old Black John...

Anything new ??
Had a bit of an ''experience'' yesterday. Went to the workshop yesterday evening to paint the wheel rims. No one was at work since there was a holiday yesterday.
Well, the ghost stories were true. There was a lot of strange noises, that were simply the compressed air system, regular cooling systems for the CNCs and local cat population.
Except the footsteps from the workshop above that was locked and that one of the rims fell of the workbench despite laying flat :o
I need to rent some of that equipment :hmmm:

No, nothing......even Bear seems normal there now. Maybe it's a full moon deal...
Maybe he only haunts the bridge on the anniversery of his demise?
Strange that your dog was so freaked out before, but got over it pretty quick.
It reminds me of when I used to take care of my sister's dogs once in a while. She had two chocolate labs and I was walking them around the neighborhood one night. People had a lot of holloween decorations out. Mostly the dogs would ignore them; they don't move or make any sound, after all. However, one yard had a large Frankenstein near the sidewalk, which was reaching over as if to grab you. Well, I guess this one appeared very sinister to them, and they were barking at it, and very hesitent to go past. It was funny to me, of course, but not to them. Seemed odd, that they could tell all the other tricks were fake, and still be fooled by this.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've witnessed similar reactions on my dogs.
I actually had to change my dog walking route because of it.
I would take them past a large garden with scare crows at night, and they would freak out. They'd growl, assume an aggressive posture, bark madly, and I would have to drag them away from the garden. I laughed really hard the first time.
This is very interesting when you consider the dog exists because of human intervention. And while dogs will either ignore or give chase to just about any creature, they instinctively assume a rather defensive posture towards a human silhouette.
It makes me wonder...

I still feel on edge walking there, but just because I can't explain what happened. All joking aside, I'm 100% sure something went on that first night, just never will be able to explain it...Strange, your sure you run up on a stranger, then nothing....
Yea Bear is fine there now.....takes off as he did, but I take the Tibetans now as well as another big cat was spotted about a mile away, they did foot print studies and say another big exotic....

The Tibetans are indeed a good idea. You don't know wether that was a loony anti-social bloke, a vagrant, or some criminal hiding away from Police. And definitelly, by all means, do take your "mistress" with you. If you run into a big cat, your "mistress" is the only really good help you'll get. You'd feel guilty if the Tibetans were killed in that fight.
Stay sharp.

That's a good idea. It doesn't hurt to be careful.
