I've been away for a few years and have decided to sail the Atlantic again. What is a good mod soup? I'll be downloading Grey Wolves and a few others I remember, but a little help with mods and their install order would be nice. Thanks.:salute:

I recognize that name! Welcome back to the fold! :sunny:

First, JSGME is a must, because it will warn you if mods are going to conflict, and why. If you're not sure why, you can always ask here.

All the mods here are compatible with GWX3. I recommend taking a look at what's available. Of course there are the new patch fixes from h.sie and more new stuff every day. Right now Rubini is working on new, more realsitic clouds.

Thanks, Steve. Are the mods in the correct install order? Can you post your mod list to give me an idea without browsing through the many pages of 'game play', 'graphics', and 'sound fx' mods?

Welcome back jakethescott - I'm a returning player myself. (What other game is so impressive that one keeps coming back to it again and again...)

Here's one impressive modlist for GWX:

If you have a less impressive PC, like I do, leave MFM and/or USAM out - they are magnificent mods, but demand a lot of horse power.

Sublynx, just one concern with the mod list you linked to: Supplement to V16B1, (aka h.sie's patcher), because of the way some of the files are made, should always be activated last. At the very least, you must ensure that nothing you activate after it changes any files from the patcher.

I just came back to SH3 after a break of a year or two myself. I bought several U-boat history e-books and ended up digging out the old classic again. I have SH5 somewhere, but I never did get into it.

Very true and a good warning

Some of us old salts' mod soups have been cooked up in a very individual way. We have personally edited some of the files so that we can use mods that would otherwise be in conflict.

It's better not to try editing the files if you don't have a pretty good idea about what to do.

@Axeman3d: Welcome back :arrgh!:

I've been out WAY too long. I've gone for the Steam version of the game this time and installed the final version of GWX to tidy it all up. Great stuff, but now I'm struggling to remember all the ins and outs of setting up a torpedo firing solution. I used to be completely manual, now I can barely remember how to dive the boat. :(

Welcome Jake the Scot....how come you are in Texas...?

Thanks for all the welcome back greetings. I tried SH5 but it's way unrealistic. You shouldn't have to go and sink 100,000 tons on one patrol. The graphics are cool, no doubt, but the game play and targeting are terrible.

Some mods I'm looking for are; environment, interior, and maybe optics. I already know what GUI I'll be using, as well as 'Das Boot clothes'. My problem is the installation order.

I'm in Texas because I was born here. I claim my Scottish ancestry before I claim Texan.

Welcome back! Just returned myself last month.

It's still a great game and so is the community love.

It'll come back in no time. I had the same problem, but now I'm getting better and learning some new tricks as well :/\\x:
