Sad to see this ship with such a long career end up like this, but she is showing her age now I suppose. I guess the RN is selling the aircraft too that served aboard her.

Didn't the Harriers go to the states for spares and repairs?

EDIT: At least she's going for preservation hopefully, be nice if Portsmouth gets her.

Yup, she is sitting in my Mancave atm. :arrgh!:

I have 2x 1:350 scale and 1x 1:144 scale to build.

It's going to be an Ilustrious winter for me :O:

Cheers

I don't think the donations for this website are sufficient to purchase this machine, nor the maintenance.:har:

Not sure on the Harriers but I found the mistake in the article which had me thinking they were selling the aircraft from this ship. They said in the headline Britain seeks buyer for Navy aircraft. They forgot to add in the important word "Carrier" after Navy Aircraft. Just a tad bit misleading, lol

Quick. Let's win the lottery!

Every member of subsim buys at least one one or has a parent buy one and somebody is bound to win.

But then again, where would you be able to dock this thing? Can't just bring this baby up the Mississippi from the Gulf of Mexico and park it here in Missouri. So I wouldn't be able to keep it if I bought it anyway.

That'll do it! :haha:

In regards to our Harriers, let me see...

The Harrier IIs (GR7s and 9s), we sold 72 of them to the US for £116m for spares and repairs, the Sea Harriers went quite early back in 2006, there was a plan to sell some to India since they still operate the Sea Harrier but I don't think that came to anything so they're probably still awaiting disposal, likewise the early ones, the GR-1s to 5s, also either cut up or awaiting disposal likely. Sad fate for a reliable workhorse, especially given that the F-35 won't come online for a while yet, quite possibly after we've launched our new carriers...putting us once again in the position of having an aircraft carrier with no aircraft...

The Ministry of Defence, confusing the heck out of the services since 1964...

The diecast is 1/72 and the model boat is 1/96 but if you look at the fourth photo you'll see one of the four or five Harriers that came with the kit.
