I have been trying to install mods in JSGME and for some reason they have been going into a folder called MODS in the silent hunter3 location file. some mods go in - as I have them installed through JSGME and some don't. im confused. and as you can see from the photo there are two locations within SH3 file. what should I do?

I see mod folders like DBSM in SH3 folder. This is wrong. The folder DBSM should be copypasted into MODS folder.

In the MODS folder the structure of the folders should be DBSM/data/...

and NOT DBSM/DBSM/data/...

Everytime one unpacks a new mod the first thing you do is to check the folder structure.

There's usually three different types:

1. modname/data/...
2. modname/modname/data/...
3. data/...

Type one can be copypasted into MODS folder as it is.
Type two - you need to move ahead in the File Manager to get to the second folder and then copy and then paste the copied part into MODS folder
Type three - you need to make a new folder, name it yourself, move the mod to the new folder and then copypaste the folder into MODS folder.

I hope this makes some sense, it's not very easy to describe something like this. Maybe we can show the process with some screenshots if need be.

your install is also in program files you may need to edit permissions if you have not already done so

But I understand if this scares people off.

Put the mods in the mod folder then double click the JSGME icon and there you enable the mods.

thank you Gentlemen.

Sublynx, im not sure if I fully understand what you have recommended but I will try to work through it.
desertstriker, permissions are fine. that's sorted.
Pisces. it scares the hell out of me!
pabbi. I think the issue is I cant activate all mods mods through JSGME. its more on the lines of what sublynx is saying...I think?

I thought about coming back into port. deactivating all mods ( taking snap-shot first) then uninstalling JSGME clearing out all residues of files etc. then reinstalling paying more attention to where it goes...how does this sound?
:salute:

Tell you what flag4, can you give me the name of some small (I have a slowish internet connection) mod that you haven't been able to install. I'll try to take meaningful screenshots of the process of installing it with JSGME.

Try this.
Unzip the mod into a folder on your desktop.
Open the mod.
If you see the folder "data" and possibly "documentation" that means the mod is ready to be placed in the mod folder.
Cut the mod and place it into your mod folder and it will show up when you click on JSGME
If "data" did not show up when you opened the mod on your desktop, keep opening folders until it does, go back one step to the previous folder, cut that folder and place it into your mod folder.
I would also reinstall the whole mess outside of the program files.
