Oh great!!
I'm sure he'll be a great asset to the British taxpayers :nope:
Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor is to serve his 50-year war crimes sentence in the UK, Justice Minister Jeremy Wright has confirmed.
Finland, Rwanda and Sweden were other possibilities following the rejection of his appeal last month by a UN-backed special court in The Hague.
It ruled that his convictions had been proved beyond doubt.
He was sentenced in May 2012 for aiding rebels who committed atrocities in Sierra Leone during its civil war.
Because of fears his trial could spark renewed conflict in West Africa, it was moved from Sierra Leone to The Hague, and the UK at the time offered to jail him if convicted.

Should charge him rent, electric, water . . .
Should charge all prisoners these. (This would obviously fall down if we still had debtors' prisons)

Yes, a real bummer, especially when taking into consideration both Rwanda and Sweden offered to incarcerate him.

Not the bit about the debtors' prison I hope - a quick glance at wiki shows me that those in a debtors' prison did indeed have to pay for being there. :/\\!!
Is it me? Run up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt for being in prison for running up a debt . . .
LOL, I thought this thread would be about Taylor Swift...

We have a lot of for-profit jails in the US. Not sure I agree with the concept.
I like the idea of inmates reimbursing for their expenses. But when you bring in for-profit corporations in to the mix, corruption becomes a risk.

The UK government may have thought he had millions stashed away and were looking to do a deal with him in the future.
Shame we can't send Chopper over to pay him a visit on Wormwood Scrubs.

Ex-Liberian President Charles Taylor has asked to serve his 50-year sentence for war crimes in Rwanda, rather than the UK.
In a letter sent to the court that convicted him, he says it would be easier - and less expensive - for his family to visit him in Africa.
Here, here. My vote is for Rwanda too. :yep:

Cheaper to fly him to Rwanda from Holland than from the UK anyway.

Far cheaper sending him in a weather balloon.
