Ok, so my first mission directs me towards poland to sink a taskforce ... no issues finding it .. get out of harbor, flank it and set course 243, wait till about 10 pm, go to 20, engine stop, take a few bearings, plot intercept and soon we have smoke on the horizon.

But, the nasty buggers are doing a zig-zag ... now I could try to get to a 90 degree angle, except that they alter course all the time as well on their patrol. How does one tackle this situation ?

Do I get so close that it is going to be impossible to miss ? Is there a way to take this zig zag into acount ? Is this what spread is for ? (seems so wastefull) I could use a pointer ...

I play on full realism, with real navigation.

What I've done to teach those zaggers of the zig a lesson is time the turns and set myself up under 1000m from their central course. Figure up a firing solution for both extreme courses (their heading at the end of each turn) then see how the impact times work out. If the time to impact is less than the time it takes them to turn, I take the shot, if not I let them go. No sense in wasting eels.

I usually go for the closest turn to me and fire just after they begin the turn because they will be exposing their side to me longest while making the turn.

I was hoping there would be a way around trying to crawl up to them :p Thanx for the tip :)

You can try a salvo after they make a turn but that just seems like a waste to me. But you might hit one or two of them.
