This is tragic! He wrote books very well, and got the technical details right. At least he left a large legacy with all those books.

That's a shame. Always see his books on the top 10 list. RIP.

RIP Sir:salute:
Such a shame, whilst I haven't been a fan of his more recent works, I did thoroughly enjoy Red Storm Rising, HFRO, The Bear and the Dragon and the Cardinal of the Kremlin.
RIP Mr Clancy, and thank you.

I just came here to post it myself, so sad news. Liked some of his work very much.

RIP.Cause? Hate when they do not disclose the cause. Clancy was only 66. Think I will watch The Hunt for Red October in his honor this evening, start reading the book again soon.
Really sad to hear the news, may he RIP

RIP Tom Clancy should be sung to the tune of Tom Dooley.
Yes, yes of course RIP, but I have often wondered what it means.
After much forethought I have decided that I do not want to be cremated, for then I would just be thin air, ashes to ashes so to speak.
I have decided that I want to be buried on a hill, all by myself, over looking the swimming pool of a nudist park :o with those little twirly things that look like ducks taking off all around my grave.
Why? To keep the birds away of course. :know:

RIP
First book I got was Red Storm Rising. Great book!
I became a fan, and later in time I got the "Ryanverse" books. Missing the ones which came after "Executive Orders" though.
RIP Sir
You will be missed by millions.
Sad news :(
R.I.P, you were my entry door for starting my interest in modern navies and their technology.
I do not share all his political views after ending of the cold war but his books, written in the 80's, are simply the best techno thrillers and RedStormRising is my favorite book until today.

Here's a clue on why he died from the NY Times article even though the publisher did not list a reason why as of yet:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/03/books/tom-clancy-best-selling-novelist-of-military-thrillers-dies-at-66.html?_r=0
After “The Hunt for Red October” was published, Mr. Clancy’s fame was fairly instant.
Frequently posing for photographs in darkened aviator sunglasses, jeans and holding a cigarette.
Sad news indeed... Rest in peace Mr. Clancy!

Today...has been so sad.
For me, I lost THE author.
RIP
I found out this morning after math class...my friend came up to me and said "Hey, I checked my phone and Tom Clancy died!"
I ran to the computer lab and googled it...sure enough.... :wah: :wah:
Literally, not even a minute later, it started pouring rain and it hasn't stopped all day.
EDIT: Still, hours later, it's hard to accept this. There won't be any more Jack Ryan...no more John Clark....no more Domingo Chavez...no more Jack Junior...
:wah:
An excellent author in his prime. His later shared credit work was disappointing. Sad to see a great author die at that age though.
Sad news indeed,
R.I.P Tom Clancy

Tom was a great author, he wrote books that were hard to put down and always made me want to read another few pages late into the night. His death is a loss but his stories will live on. RIP.

:wah:
There probably will be. Remember that since 2010, Clancy's books were co-written by other people. I am sure they will continue the series as long as there is money. Who knows, they may be even better than before?

Yes, real sad!...
I saw him a long time ago in NY at a driving range!
Eternal Gratitude for Tom Clancy SSN, that is the most instructive game when it come to a simplified tactical operation of a SSN, and I am still playing it since 1996.

I half-hope so...but then again...even though they were co-authors...
It. Will. Never. Be. The. Same.

I guess we'll see what happens.

Are you channeling William Shatner?

I didn't expect him to go soon. He wasn't very old.

No...I'm channeling my inner-fanboy.
Got diagnosed with Clancyitis and it never went away.

So, was there any word on cause of death?
Jimbuna

John Gresham, a co-author and researcher with Clancy on several books attributed Clancy's death to heart problems: "Five or six years ago Tom suffered a heart attack and he went through bypass surgery. It wasn’t that he had another heart attack, [his heart] just wore out."
