I have recently started using SH3 commander for SH3 and I think its a great tool but I have to ask, I have heard players in this forum talk about things like using the type XXI as early as 1940-41, and I would like to know how I can do this myself if anyone knows, I dont want the type XXI or anything, but maybe a IXD-2 in 1940-41 would be nice.
If any of you know a way to make this possible toss me a line yeah? :)

there is a mod in the gameplay section of the SH3 downloads that will give you a type 21 at the begining of the war. then there is WB's play it your way mod which IIRC makes EVERYTHING available at the start of the war.

Go into the SH3 Commander folder. Open the folder XXI/data/Roster/German/Submarine (basically you're just following the path in, as there are no other folders or files to choose from). Open the Submarine file with Notepad (it's a simple CFG file). At the very top you'll see:
AppearanceDate=19440627. Change it to read AppearanceDate=19390801. Commander will do the rest.

Your game is installed in c:/program files right?
Windows restricts rights in folders in the program files area.
It is suggested you install sh3 in a folder other then in the program files group
Otherwise you can right click on your Notepad icon and select run as administrator. Then use the file open to get to the file you want to edit. You will be able to edit and save it now as you were running notepad as the administrator

Thank you Radian. I still have a very old machine running XP, so I forget that people with newer systems have to jump through those extra hoops to make things work.
Thanks for straightening that out. :sunny:
