HI everybody!

First i want to say hello to everybody!
My name is Alain, I'm 26 years old and i live in Luxembourg

I really love Submarines and bought the SH5 years ago for 10 EUR and played it sometimes (without Mods) and stopped it because of the bugs.

Now i saw this great community and i have some questions.
I look in the forum for answers but English isn't my first language so maybe i didn't saw a thread where my questions are already answered.

In that case i want to apologize and a link to that thread would be great :)

so I've done a complete fresh Installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

Also my SH5 Installation is "virgin".

Now I'm very interested in the Mods and i just have some questions :

A : The TDW Patcher ... should i patch the Files BEFORE adding other Mods (actually looking for Sobel's Mod List).

B : I am playing with 0 Realism.. (yes because i am REALLY a Beginner!)
So i don't want to activate to much realism because otherwise i don't have the possibility to "learn" how to play that Game and i think i will be frustrated.

So...that's all!

Again if there is a thread with this questions i am sorry so a link would be great.

Greeting from Luxembourg

I can't play SH5 because of my old computer, but there are many people who can help and will.

I just wanted to say WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:

the first step you need to do before doing anything else is fully update the game and then make a complete backup copy of the game so if it gets corrupted you can restore any bad files without needing to reinstall the whole game.

its best to save it "off" the computer on a disk or flash drive

now make the changes to the exe file before you start adding any mods to the game

o/ Hey there .. I'm new here too. My experience with sh5 is about a month old. Same situation here with the bugs ;)

questions

You are looking for this topic (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=192374) I think. If you follow instructions on page 1, all the way to the end, reading carfully and asking questions when not sure, you will end up with a full realism POSSIBLE sh5.

If your goal is to learn eventualy how to play on full realism, I suggest you configure it for that now, and play the added single missions and then open a tutorial that is added in the proces of getting that modlist to work.

After half a day of those, you'll be sinking ships like a pro. It's not hard, it's just impossible with stock sh5 cuz of the bugs and only consists of some semi-carefull plotting and reading. There are GREAT video's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMYz1Oxg6rY) by stoianm1 on the subject, showing you step by step how to do it.

It looks more intimidating then it is ;)

Thanks everybody for your answers!

I've patched the Game right now and it works...

now I am applying patch by patch and always testing it :D

@ plj

Hehe i would be hard to learn ;)
Do you know DCS? (Digital Combat Simulator?)
That's also a "real" Simulation just an Flight Simulator...

Have it now 2 years with Hardware for about 1900 EUR and still learning... :D
(HOTAS Stick, Track IR, some Modules with Switches because a Keyboard hasn't enough keys for that Simulation)
Even WITH Shift,ALT,CTRL etc :D
