you need to use the jsgme utility to install and uninstall mods so it doesn't mess up your game.

find it here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=156898

next when moving mods into jsgme you need to double check the file path for the mods by opening the folder and you should see a file there called "data", if the data folder isn't there then the folder you see is most likely going to be the actual mod folder that needs to be put in jsgme.

it should look like "mod name/ data" and not "mod name/ mod folder/ data"

some modders use double folders and some don't so you need to check this. also some mods have different versions to pick from and some have extra add-ons included so never just unzip a mod straight into jsgme, unzip it to your documents or desktop to open it and confirm you are adding the correct folder to jsgme.

welcome to subsim

good luck and happy hunting

The problem with the JSGME download found in the "Utilities" section of the SubSim "Downloads" for SH4 is just what Webster talks about with some mods.......they have too many folders "in-play" before you get to the app/mod itself.

JonesSoft (the creator of its Generic Mod Enabler) stopped all work on the app, plus closed its original site for the download. Sailor Steve put a copy of the last version of JSGME on SubSims "Downloads" menu (since it's one of the most important apps to use for modding) yet it has too many folders in its make-up to simply "extract" from compression and have the right files placed where they should (in the main "Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific" game folder). Either SS should change his download of the app, or you should know in advance to "extract" JSGME to your desktop......then copy/paste the specific folders/files directly to the game's "Main" folder.

The four JSGME folders/files that need to be placed into your "main" game folder are circled below:

Sounds like you've got what we call "mod soup"......mods have interfered with the games files and have corrupted them.

The "cure" is to check your main game files with JSGME's handy "Task..." menu (found in the center of the app) and have it "Compare Snapshot" to check for differences/deletions of your main game files. Two things are against you though.

One is you need to take a "Snapshot" of your main game files BEFORE ever adding your first mod. You actually should take the "Snapshot" just after a clean install of the game, and adding JSGME to the clean install. Any other "Snapshot" taken could show altered files in the snapshot.....you want a clean unaltered copy of your game files for the original snapshot.

Second, if you have hand altered your game files, then you don't have original game files to take a "Snapshot" of. Adding JSGME to an already modded game will cause it to have trouble (believe me, JSGME has trouble keeping its own changes straight....that's why there's a "SnapShot" function with JSGME in the first place......there's going to be files corrupted if you mod a lot and interchange things, even with JSGME). Doing it yourself (by hand) is probably the issue.

My advice is to do a clean reinstall of the game (follow most of the instructions found here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=133290)), add JSGME to the game folder as instructed, then have the "Snapshot" taken for future use when you wish to check for game corruption.

I might be asking a dumb question here, are you trying to use a SH1.5 mod on your SH1.4 install, if you are they are not compatible and that could be why you are getting these errors.

First, thanks for telling me this privately as soon as you discovered it so I could look into it.

Second, after reading your post I redownloaded JSGME from my link, reinstalled it and followed the path to the new install, and here is what I found.

I have no idea where all the other stuff in your picture came from, but it wasn't from my link.

Don't mention it!!

Second, after reading your post I redownloaded JSGME from my link, reinstalled it and followed the path to the new install, and here is what I found.

After reading YOUR post, I redownloaded your link and happily found it working as it should (although this hadn't been the case when you first added JSGME in Feburary to the "Downloads section). Your own first sentence in the discription reads:
"This is the JSGME official installer. As requested I've taken down the old one and replaced it with this one."

You found the problem and corrected it without telling me!

I stand corrected. :yeah:

I have no idea where all the other stuff in your picture came from, but it wasn't from my link.

The "other stuff" happens to be the main game folders/files of a modded Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific game. Sorry to confuse you in your inability to recogonize the game folders/files with the 4 JSGME folders/files added to it.
