Dud Torpedoes

I chose MEDIUM game play and uncheck DUD TORPEDOES for Custom choices. If I choose Medium do I automatically get Dud Torpedoes even if I uncheck "Dud Torpedoes"?

Nope. If you uncheck dud torps you will never have a dud.(Though where is the fun in that?)

That's what I would think. However after I check Medium complexity and go back to Options, Dud Torpedoes is checked on again. This is V1.5 so maybe I should uninstall and reinstall or something isn't right. I used to be a GOOD torpedo shooter (Silent Service C64, Silent Service II IBM, Aces of the Deep, and Silent Hunter I) but in SH4 I can't hit the broad side of the Pacific Ocean so I'm a thinkin, maybe just maybe.

Even if you turn off dud torpedo's you still have to be beyond the minimum arming distance for the torpedo. I think this is around 250 yards for stock and 450 yards for most mods (GFO/TMO)

I fired 6 torpedoes between 1200 and 800 yds both contact and magnetic and nuttin happened. Target was a medium freighter at 5 kts so it has to be my installation or sumptum like that. Thanks for your help you did answer the vital question, it should remain unchecked.

Actually that's just how bad the torps were early in the war.(It wasn't all that uncommon for a sub to have nearly all its torps be duds.)

If you select a pre-set like Medium, then uncheck something you are no longer on Medium and are playing Custom. If you uncheck something first then hit a Pre-set it will redo/overwrite what you set yourself. Just set up your game as Custom and check and uncheck things to suite how you want to play.

The pre-sets don't change the difficulty of the enemy AI, they only pre-set your check list.

In addition to what donna said, be aware that the general gameplay settings only apply to the single missions. If you want to change your career settings, you must do that in your office (click on the radio, I think).

I usually do the same thing. While I turn most difficulty options on, I turn off dud torpedoes, even though I know it may be historically accurate, its not my fault.
