Grant vs Lee looks great, can't wait to see it!
Looks like they have good matches for the most part.
William Petersen looks too well fed and content to be Sherman, though.

I hope it is portrayed from both sides of the conflict.
The subject still evokes heated discussion even today.
If going by each mans motives, it is not so much political. They were both soldiers and gentlemen, with great respect for each other.
I would like to see the Unions early losses potrayed as well.
Considering the Army of the Potamac went through a few commanders before it found Grant, his victory at Vicksburg, as a minor general cemented a reputation for him. McClellan was an absolute disaster.
But I would like to see both sides qualms represented, and left to the viewer to decide morally.
It was a sad dark time in our history, even 150 years later, it still starts arguments over who was right. It should be done right, with no skew.
In before McBee. Looks interesting and will probably take a look at this when it becomes available down under.

Well, I didn't think it would ever get done, released or what and sometimes still wonder, but all the talk is it's a done deal. I still can't get a good fix on the release date.
Hopefully it will be historically correct, has some great historians and producers. I think they were addressing for once the many overweight reenactors:haha: Tis strange seeing all the well fed fat CSA soldiers marching into battle, when they were starved and bone thin.
We'll see what the future holds.

I don't reenact anymore, but in Gettysburg you didn't see too many fatties. My old groups is still big in it, but I swear most of em couldn't walk across the field. Heck, we use to march from camp to the sites, just a few miles, today they have buses or tractor pulled wagons.
If you ever go to big reenactments, you'll notice the big ones die fast so they can lay down.

I simply want something that tells it like it is, and does not cause division.
Niether side was right, niether side was wrong.
But 600k died in 4 years, millions suffered.
I want past it as a country. North (union) on paper won. But technically, no one won.
Just would love to see both sides represented, as both sides had valid gripes.

Neither side was right? I must disagree lol. Slavery was wrong but it was on it's way out anyways, would have disappeared early in the next century but the radicals in the north did not like the south telling them to go f themselves, so they used the "moral" argument as justification.Lincoln launched a war that killed 800,000 people, left millions more scarred for life emotionally and physically as well as generations of untold misery in the south. Many of the problems the south still suffers can be traced back to that war. Besides the war, Lincoln abused his own citizens in the north by suspending habeas corpus etc
What the civil war boils down to was the federal government trying to tell one part of the country how they were going to live and the good people of the south stood up and fought.Unfortunately, they lost and we are still subjects of D.C.

For once I agree with Steve, just wanted to mention the hopefully upcoming series, not talk about heat issues, such as Lincoln {the tyrant}
I'm more interested that the movie stays historical, showing Lee's superior tactics, the fighting skills of southern men, our beautiful women and the fact we're better looking, better lovers, but most of all

Yep, I've seen many a funny charge. I went to a reenactment this spring and the crowd was giggling over a few 300 plus pounders being left behind the regiment during the charge.

Thank you Steve. I have to agree, it is in our past, I only hope this show can show tribute to both sides, for fighting for what they believed in, and to honor 2 great men in American history.

Okay, so here's my story.
At our last reenactment of the year (Ft Steven's, not the subsim club house), we had had a bunch of thefts one year:shifty::stare:, so we implemented a night watch program. Our assignment was to guard the reenactor parking entrance at night:down: (all night until sunrise:down::down:). Well, one year, I had the first watch with Richard (the 400+ lbs dude). Now I didn't really like Richard, so getting stuck with him on a two hour watch made for a looong two hours.
Anyway, our relief watch came out to meet us and zooooom Richard was gone. Note, I did not know a 400 lb man could move so fast, and here is the reason why...
Well, my unit commander, and best reeacting mate came out to get me (I was loitering, talking to the next watch pair.)
He said, "Jason, you need to hurry up and get back to camp if you want to eat."
It was after 8pm, our unit had already had dinner.:hmmm:
I said "okay" and kept doddling along.
"No, Jason, you need to go NOW if you want anything to eat...Richard is...."
OMG, then it dawned on me, Richard is there!:o
I didn't run back, but I walked very briskly back to our camp.:haha:
Now, as it was described to me, Richard came flying in and went straight for what was left of dinner and started eating like he hadn't eaten in three days.:o:haha:
Richard was always first in line at chow call and he would eat a lot!

I don't got the energy to argue today, Steve. Bump the I hate the North/South Thread up tomorrow, maybe I can play.
As for today I salute the men who indirectly shaped the united states, for good or bad.
2 great Americans IMHO.
General Lee was always a gentleman, and Gracious in defeat, Grant was a pompous, "cigar chomping a-hole" (das boot anyone?)
But upon meeting, there was no deeper respect amongst 2 military men, since Scipio Africanus and Hannibal Barca.
Grant, for all his rough edges always respected his enemy, and Lee the same, if not more, being the quiet reserved man he was, not as loud and flamboyant as grant, but just as huge a presence.
Miliarily, it was one hell of a chess match, niether men really welcoming the bloodshed, yet accepting it.
I want to see about them. Lee is vastly respected in the North, and was even back then. I do not know Grants opinion in the south, but I assume they respect him and his exploits, despite the outcome.

Actually some of us die fast so we don't have to clean the gun( my Parker-Hale two-band with Snyder bayonet); and on one occasion when we didn't appreciate our little martinet of an LT we all fell on the first volley...behind his back. My wife has several pair of those. I always enjoyed the balls during events and the fun of working through the layers later...:yeah:
Lang is an amazing actor, more of a stage actor, but a great historian in his own right.
One thing they're supposed to be pushing for is more reality. Maybe you noticed, but in Gettysburg and G&G's there is no battle gore The only gore really was after battle and minor. A lot of that stemmed because the reenactors furnished their own uniforms and they're expensive. They did a lil better with the fake beards in G&G, but supposed to have that corrected, in Gettysburg it was terrible. The issue with fat reenactors was also being talked about.
They have some great historians advising, such as Eric Wittenberg, he can be an ass and rude, but knows his stuff.
So yes, we should see some gore, cussing, but don't expect Deadwood. Who wouldn't want to see Sara Evans naked, but don't expect any nudity.

I love the rubber bayonets.
We used to do post battle hospital demonstrations with make-up.:woot: We've made people throw up before.
We used to do arty wounds, so there were lots of splinters, missing limbs, etc.
We had one guy, who was really skinny and flexible, so he would fold his leg back and you'd swear he was really missing his leg!:dead:
One year, (about 5 years ago) we had the public carry back the wounded soldiers after the battle to the field hospital. My son was with me that year and dad din't come home from the battle. Well, I was carried back, with my head wound and dumped infort of the hospital, where my son was waiting for me (it was part of our camp). It was interesting to see my son's reaction.:hmm2: I didn't break character and kept a stone cold face. My son came up to me and poked me lifted my kepi off my face and stayed by my side during the whole demonstration. Finally, the surgeon came up to me and said I was "done" and moved on. There were a few people crying when they realized what was going on, as his reaction was real. He just stayed there by my side silently.
I finally got up and gave him a hug. He was pissed though.:hmph:

You've mentioned that before. Pictures or it didn't happen. :O:
Hehe, I'll have to pull out my albums one day and do some scanning. My wife was quite a beauty in her day, put her up against any of the beauties in the good lookn women thread, still looks good for her age, me, not so much...
Had a lot of good times, that's for sure. I hate getting old.....and fat

My naked butt sat on the same toilet as Jane Fonda in Gettysburg...top that:O:
Plus I stole my wife from Sam Elliots table, insulted him and dared him to duel....what a pus... Sure, he was married, but hey, I'm still the man.
I do wonder sometimes, the best sex we have to this date is after she hears Sam doing a truck commercial...:hmmm:

Sure, he was married
And to Katharine Ross (yum)! Did you get to meet her? Well, you got to meet him, which is not the same but still cool, and you got to meet your bride-to-be, which is coolest of all.
Hey, my ex was hot back in the day. We all get older.

No, never met her. I wasn't there long. My time meeting Sam probably didn't exceed 5 minutes. I did get to have lunch with Buck Taylor, same table, he was very cordial and talkative.
Getting old still sucks. I know I've been gaining a lil weight, but was shocked when I went to the Dr. and came in at 227. Wife been nagging at me about it, but hey, I'm formed a new love for chocolate chip cookies. :yeah:

I was skinny up until my mid-30s. I started gaining weight and finally ended up at 225 on a 5'8" frame. I got back down to 195 and stayed there until I contracted diabetes at 51. The change made me lose 60 pounds in as many days. I nearly died. I slowly rose back up to 195 and now I'm trying to lose it naturally. I'm currently at 185 and overjoyed about it. 175 is next. :sunny:

A Public Service Announcement from the Men's Council for Remaining Alive and Intact (MCRAI).
Protip: Prepositional phrases never to be used when talking to your wife.
1. "My wife was quite a beauty in her day" = slow death
Better: "I am still captivated by my wife's beauty after all these years" = longer life
2. "still looks good for her age" - no!:down: There is nothing salvageable from this. Strike that phrase from your memory.
Comments like this can end up with your wife thanking the mortician for making you "look so natural".
This PSA was brought to you by a dumb old man who has made these and many other mistakes and was allowed to live, albeit with injuries, to help others avoid these common and potentially lethal mistakes. :D

I'm 6.1 and like to hold at 210, still too much, but I don't look fat. I noticed I was getting that belly, but was shocked at the gain. I'm gonna have to move up to a 38 waist soon if I don't.

Maybe for some, but we're not that shallow. I've told my wife I would love her in her beauty and in her old age, no matter the changes, she remains beautiful to me.
Still, most people guess she's mid 30's. I feel I look old beside her when we go out, belly sticken out. She can still eat like a horse, but stays thin, but she is very active. I guess it's time to lose the belly and color my hair, maybe some designer clothes?

Back to pantaloons again I see! Don't worry about old (62) and fat (240). I am and I just placed 10 out of 400 on the S.F. Park Ranger exam(4 Hrs), hearing aids and all against a lot of fit, trim 1/3 my agers. Now all I have to do is ride a bike in a figure eight... and they pay extra for Spanish speaking! Ole'. :arrgh!:
