(Mis?)colored submarines

I have been playing SH4 for a bit now and I've noticed something, all the (American) subs seem to be colored a charcoal color in game, but I've seen photos of American subs painted almost a Germanic gray silver, is this one of those things they had to leave out because of 'copyright violation" or just laziness on the developers part? :06:

Different paint schemes were used at different periods of the war. At the outbreak, they were painted black. The gray scheme came later. I don't think it matters in the game, though.

yeah, the color doesn't change until like 1943 or 44.
