Prince William to leave armed forces

I doubt we'll get any facts soon but I suspect the birth of his son and the youngsters need to have parents around him as much as possible had some bearing on the decision.


The Duke of Cambridge is to leave the military after more than seven years of service, Kensington Palace has announced.
Prince William completed his final shift as an RAF search and rescue pilot on Tuesday.

The lad's done alright, a sensible decision to make. Although to be honest it's hard to tell with the Royal family just how much time the baby will spend with its parents and how much time he'll spend with nannies and such. William strikes me as a more hands on parent, but Kate, not so much. I'm afraid I do tend to lean towards the opinion of Hilary Mantel, Kate is somewhat plastic.

As far as I'm aware Kate has yet to employ a nanny....which if true, does surprise me.

Plastic 'fantastic' you mean. I suspect she's up to living in the fishbowl with feet on the ground and a grounded no-nonsense college background and can manage young Will ("V" apparent) as needed along with the new heir 'presumptive' as well nanny or not. New daddy's do not belong in helicopters over the ocean if avoidable, although Uncle Andrew led on that one in the Falklands tiff. :arrgh!:

Well he is the future king.

He is a good boy, I still remember how angry he was at the NYtimes (I think) for leaking he was in Afghanistan, stand up fella.

He did his part, and you see very few American senators or government members sons in the hard stuff, yet the future King of England served.

Gotta respect that, even if you find monarchy silly, or antiquated.

Besides he has a son to look after, and a pretty wife to take care of,, thanks for your military service Crown Prince William, Respect from America, and thanks for helping us out.

You have Harry and William mixed up William was in Wales flying a rescue chopper Harry has been in Afghanistan twice once as infantry and more recently as an Apache AH Mark 1 pilot.Prince William has never been to A-Stan.They both fly(or flew) helicopters one for the RAF one for the Army Air Corps.

It was all part of their plan to be liked by people who dislike monarchs but also like them for some unexplained reason.:hmm2:

I personally have always thought that leaders - be they kings or politicians - should only be entrusted with governmental leadership after having served in the military.

Generally speaking - those who know combat - want to do everything reasonable before engaging in it.
