Bad news everyone.
I had a complete crash of SHIII, including SH3 Commander.
I also couldn't find my SHIII disc so I had to order a new version. The DVD-rom arrived today.
Since I am starting with a complete and utter re-install, what do I need to do get back to running my configuration.
Is there a way to make sure my registry is clean on my Vista machine? How do I do so if I need?
Obviously I need to install the 4 gig patch and SH3 commander files.
Does anyone who has had to do this before, have any additional suggestions?
Thanks everyone.

Make sure you delete the SH3 folder from My Documents. Yes, it holds all your saved games, but it also holds other files which will confuse the game and cause problems later.
Also delete the SH3 folder from the Ubisoft game folder. Residual files there as well.

Really ? I used to buy a new hard drive every time I reinstalled SH3 to stay in safe side :haha:
Before you act on Sailor Steve's advise (re: remove old game folders), please consider this: In the old MODS folder sits JSGME.ini, which is just a text file to help JSGME remember which mods are applied. This could be used by you to make a list of which mods you need, and re-assemble the mod-order. You can open it with Windows Notepad for example.
Since you experience game crashes you might have mod-corruptions, so I strongly advise against re-using the other mod folders inside it.

Is there some reason for preferring the jsgme.ini file to just making a copy of the mod list using the Export activated mods list to => function? This function has always seemed to work OK when I've tried it. Does it have a problem? For that matter, if you use the Load mod profile... and Save mod profile... functions, I believe the file JSGME Mod Profile.mep contains the last mod list you saved.

All I do with JSGME is enabling or disabling stuff. Never done any fancy stuff. So yeah, if you can use this as a template, then do it. I just thought the ini file is easy to read with a text editor. But I'm a bit old school in that regard.

On the other hand I really do use a program that cleans my registry, eliminates bad shortcuts and does a privacy sweep that deletes all the day's internet visits. I run it every night and have it shut down the computer.

I have a special folder where I keep a list of all the mods I'm using and copies of all the mods I'm using, including some mod groups that I've already combined manually. Any time I reinstall the game (which is more often than most people want to) I use that list and those mods to recreate my personal soup. My motto is "Never throw anything away." :sunny:

JSGME includes a very competent set of tools under the Tasks tab. It will save and reload a mod list. That's really nice if you ever play SH5, which has no megamods, so you may have 80-100 active mods. It will print out or save your mod list to a text file. And it will take a snapshot of your game files before activating mods and compare that snapshot to the current files, so you can tell when files have gotten corrupted. Well-designed, thoroughly useful software.

Wow, I really should have paid more attention to JSGME. I've been making notepad docs on my desktop manually to keep track of my ModLists...
I always wondered how people posted such nice lists on the forum...
