Important update:
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1867306&postcount=754
Dev diary update time.
We had a very successful weekend at Duxford and thanks to all of you out there that popped by to say hi. Sorry if I didn't have time to talk to you all it was rather busy.
Thanks to ED for releasing the 1.2.6 patch on Thursday. Although we did have to unpack the 3 pc's from the 2 cars to patch them it meant we had a working Hawk in 1.2.6.
We had a lot of interest in the Hawk (I think the Red Arrows being there helped that) and I gave a little sneak peak to a select few of the Typhoon 3d model re-work which went down very well.
Thanks again to The Fighter Collection for having us and to ED for flying Yo-Yo over to support us not just with him being there but to bring the banner and brochures they had printed up all the way from Moscow with him. As always a pleasure talking to him.
So, on to development....
Well we had a few months of hair pulling, late night coding, chasing bugs and generally going crazy to get the cockpit working in 1.2.5 but to no avail.
Thanks for all of the help ED gave us to get it working in 1.2.6 ready for the weekend and of course to Tango for surprising me on Saturday morning 1 hour before doors opening to say he had published a new Hawk patch before he left at 6am to drive down to Duxford for the day. Yes I was jumping about the hangar with joy like a little girl!!!
And man does she fly beautifully in 1.2.6, even with wing tip vapour and grunting noises when pulling 6g loops
Coding Update
In terms of the cockpit functions we're about 95% completed and just waiting for the API's from ED to tie some of our systems like radios and full weapons into the sim.
All of the aircraft systems logic like electrical, hydraulic, etc. are completed and currently tied into the SFM model.
Model Update
As you can see from the screenshots in the eye candy forums Crow has done a big update on the cockpit model and skins. They are still WIP but you can see a massive amount has been done and truly amazing work.
You can even see a little sneak peak through a frame cutout of the rear cockpit and switches in there.
Yes we are working on dual cockpit's and although single player seat switching will likely be in release, multiplayer dual control is down to ED to code so we'll have to wait for that. But we'll be ready when they get it implemented.
Short Term Goals
Let's talk about short term goals and the interesting bit for you.
Here is what we are aiming to release at the end of September:
Multiplayer Module Beta
This will allow you to install certain Hawk files onto your PC so that if you join a public server that has a Hawk flying in it, you will see the Hawk external model.
This will be patched as and when we carry out and test updates to our base model and add new skins, AFM, Weapons, etc.
The purpose of the module is to ensure full compatibility with DCS when flying on public servers.
At the moment if you join a server with Hawk flying you will see a default SU-25.
The module will be free of charge.
There will be no cockpit files included, it is just the external model and skin files.
Now I'm sure some clever people out there will make it flyable with another cockpit (for research purposes of course) and that's fine if you want to do that. We will obviously not support those modules if they get released publicly.
We may, in the future, include certain cockpit files so you can enter the Hawk and look at the pretty cockpit but you won't be able to fly it unless you purchase an activation code and licence key. We are still discussing this concept.
Come and fly the Hawk for free
The guys at Virtual Aerobatics will be providing a long weekend session, or maybe a week if it goes well, of Hawk being included in their server mission.
We will be giving away 30 full copies of DCS:Hawk with a time limited licence for you to try out over that weekend.
This is your chance to give us valuable feedback on what you think of our product before you buy it. Also to give the community some feedback on what you think of it rather than us telling you it's awesome.
Details on how to get an activation code will be given out soon and we'll do a little trivia competition next week for that one. Easy answers to find on Google kind of thing.
If any squads out there would like to run a sqaud hosted session trying out the Hawk, please send me a PM for details and we can discuss it further. I know some of you are very interested in it.
Now the licence keys when registered are tied to your machine, so you can't give them out to friends and they will be a limited licence key, probably to 15 or 30 days to give you enough time to play around with the Hawk in SP and MP.
Once that time period is up, you will still be able to sit in the cockpit but the jet won't function.
For the lucky 30 of you, you won't need the Multiplayer module as you will have the full product.
This is kind of an open beta so your feedback at that time will be very valuable as we move into the finishing stages of development and we will create a new forum section for the feedback.
We will probably run another event in October and December along the same lines.
DCS:Hawk Flight Manual
Obviously you will want to know how to fly the Hawk and what better way than to read the flight manual. This will be released along with the multiplayer and test modules and generally posted for all of you.
Again it's a work in progress and any suggestions are gratefully welcomed with a new feedback forum created.
Longer Term Goals
So, with obviously flying the Hawk or seeing it buzzing around the virtual sky in the coming weeks you are going to want to buy it.
We originally set the release date for before Christmas (with a few caveats) however with the few months delays we are currently evaluating when we can release the product.
Until we have the team meeting this week and then consult with TFC/ED on their side of things we can't set a date but as soon as we have it, I'll let you know.
I would love for you to be flying the Hawk ready for Christmas but I simply can't promise it.
And to recap we will be releasing the combat variant first with the aerobatic variant a few months later. They will be released as separate modules, each costed for separately but with an upgrade price if you buy one module later than the other.
We are still working on a suitable pricing structure and details will be announced when this is finalised.
I did previously state that if you bought the combat DCS:Hawk prior to the aerobatic module being released then you would get the aerobatic module free of charge up until release date. This still stands.
So that means if you buy the combat variant when we release it and before we release the aerobatic module you get both for the same total price. After releasing the aerobatic module you will need to buy both separately.
The aerobatic module has a slightly different cockpit and engine performance, smoke system and few other differences hence why the delay in releasing them together in one module.
So, I hope that has put a smile on your face and got you as excited as the team are when we fly the Hawk and I very much look forward to getting your feedback on our product.
Please feel free to ask any questions about the above.
Thanks,
Chris.

Copied from the Dev Diary section in case it gets lost in there.
I will also post details of how you could be in with a chance to get a licence in this thread.

Ok guys here is the competition to win a limited time licence activation code.
As a reminder, the licence keys when registered are tied to your machine, so you can't give them out to friends and they will be a limited licence key, until the 31st October 2013 to give you enough time to play around with the Hawk in SP and MP.
Once that time period is up, you will still be able to sit in the cockpit but the jet cockpit won't function.
For the lucky 30 of you, you won't need the Multiplayer patch module as you will have the full product installed.
There are 5 simple questions as below:
1) What year was the Hawk first flown?
2) What is the name of the powerplant in the Hawk?
3) Aside from the Red Arrows which other display teams use the Hawk? (note there are two)
4) How Many Hawk T1's were converted into T1a's
5) In what Year did the Red Arrows start flying the Hawk T1a?
All 5 Answers along with your ED forum name or Facebook name should be emailed to competition@veaosimulations.co.uk
The subject line of the email should be: DCS:Hawk public release competition.
And the Email should contain your ED forum name or Facebook name and the 5 answers.
As my ED forum inbox is limited, please do not PM me the answers and send an Email instead.
If you do not have the ability to send an email then please contact me via PM.
Rules:
The competition will close on Friday 27th September 2013 at 08:00 UTC
All entrants will be logged on a spreadsheet and numbers assigned to their names in order of entry being received. A random number generator will then be used to pick 30 winners.
Winners will be notified by private message on the ED forums or Facebook along with your activation key.
Only one entry per person is allowed.
Good luck,
Chris.

Guys,
I am pleased to present to you the first iteration of the DCS:Hawk Quickstart guide.
I hope this gives you enough information on certain functions of the Hawk.
I will be developing it further over the coming weeks based on your feedback and from the public testing and additional features you would like to see within the guide.
It is not meant to replace the full manual but more an overview to get you started and flying, hence quickstart.
Please let me know of any errors, omissions, improvements, etc.

Dev Diary update time.
Last night we released a patch to the public alpha testers with a few tweaks, a few bug fixes and have started to implement the fantastic audio from Diveplane.
Here is the change log:
* Added logic to detect start state (cold ramp/hot ramp/air start).
* Flap indicator
* Whiskey compass: added magnetic dip, acceleration error
* Tied custom canopy to ED canopy
* Fuel gauge now displays DCS total fuel state
* Re-worked ADI precession errors and tightened them up
* Re-worked ADI acceleration errors
* Re-worked navigation needle behavior
* Added audio for gyros, fuel pump and GTS (WIP)
* Resolved the FPS hit bug
We'd like to thank all of the public testers for their valuable feedback during this test period.
Work on the damage model is ongoing by Crow and you guys are going to love the work he's doing. We're not going to show it off but leave it as a surprise.
Derelor has stepped up to the mantle and is going through our flight manual and quick start manual to correct any grammatical errors. Thanks again very much to him for doing this.
We currently don't have a "launch" date as a few things still need to happen behind the scenes and ongoing work on the module. However; as soon as we're closer to knowing the date, you will be the first to know.
Thanks,
Chris.

VAEO Hawk Update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1919833&postcount=818
Friday, and 1st November...WOW!!
The past year has really flown by, excuse the pun.
Looking back over the last year we've had some great victories and some major setbacks but we're pushing through those to come out on top.
If you have a dream, follow that dream and work damn hard to achieve it.
The Hawk development is testament to that and what an amazing team we have.
For those that don't know I started this project over 8 years ago after a discussion with the late great Jim Mackonochie and we had a collective vision; to allow members of the public to fly in a Hawk jet in the simulator so they can get one step closer to being in the Red Arrows.
With Jim's enthusiasm and support from himself, Wags, Nick Grey and the guys at ED we have achieved that vision.
But not just achieved it, we're going the next step and allowing you, the DCS community to fly this beautiful bird.
The public feedback we have had over the past month has been amazing and very uplifting.
The team take great pride in our work down to the last rivet on the paintwork to the meticulous 3d model and the last line of code keeping us up till the early hours of the morning and it's great to see you enjoying our product.
To that end, I have extended the public testers licences through to the end of November and am extending an invitation to the first 30 people to email me at ells@veaosimulations.co.uk to receive a limited time alpha licence.
The screenshot competition has now officially closed and we've had some amazing shots taken of the Hawk with other aircraft.
I'll be processing the images over the weekend and early next week into a voting system so you, the community, can pick some winners for the full product when released.
As a little added extra I've been speaking with the Virtual Red Arrows sponsor Thrustmaster and have secured some products to give away for Christmas. Details will be posted soon so keep an eye out here or on our Facebook page.
I also received an email from Tango last night wanting to add one final screenshot to the competition.
For the keen eyed of you out there you'll notice that the Sidewinder weapons panel is active and a distant explosion
Suffice to say I can't wait to get back home to test it out to get it ready for the public testers to start deploying them in the air.
Again I'd like to thank all of you for your amazing support and comments about our product and wish you a happy November.
Chris and the VEAO Team

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........
We anticipated November but encountered a 3 month delay, so that put's us at around February (anticipated).
That's about as close as I'm going to say right now.
Also having a few legal issues with calling the Hawk a "Hawk" so we might have to change the name. I was thinking "Talula", what do you think?

release date and prize for DCS: Hawk, late febrary with clicleable cockpit and two versions, FC3 level (39.99$) and a AFM versiσn +10$ (49.99$)
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=119201
Hey guys,
I can't believe it's the middle of January already, this year is going to fly by, excuse the pun!!
Development of the Hawk is going very well and she is up and running in DCS World 1.2.7. with full weapons capability so all my stressing on that front is over, thank you ED!!!
This takes us to the next stage of development, BETA...yes you read that correctly
We have a small group of public testers that will become the first closed Beta testers alongside our dedicated VEAO testers team. They will be testing all aircraft functions to make sure it's purring like a kitten and biting like a tiger.
Which will then move us to the next stage, hmmm I wonder what that one is, suggestions anyone??
Following a team discussion last night and pending any natural disasters, zombie outbreak, IPR lawyers putting the breaks on or Tango getting hit by a bus; we are pleased to make the following announcement.
Hawk Open Beta will be released as an FC3 level aircraft with fully clickable cockpit before the end of February 2014!!
Confused? yes we thought you might be so please let me clarify.
We are still working on the AFM, in fact that's going very slowly so we will be releasing the open Beta version of the Hawk as an FC3 level aircraft (as it doesn't have AFM) but it will have the fully clickable cockpit as some of you have got used to in the public alpha release.
Should you not wish to use the clickable cockpit, we are looking at an option to turn that off/on.
Now some of you may argue that this is in fact a DCS level aircraft because of the fidelity of the systems and clickable cockpit but we felt that without AFM it would be unjust to call it DCS level.
So do we call it DCS:Hawk or simply Hawk or something else. We think in line with ED's FC3 products we will simply call it T.1A Trainer to differentiate this version from the full DCS AFM version.
Costings; well we have considered the cost of standard FC3 aircraft add-ons and cost of DCS level add-ons (current and future) and have taken a decision as it will come with fully clickable cockpit functionality.
The product will cost $39.99 and when we have the AFM version ready for release there will be a $10 upgrade charge should you wish to go for that.
Final DCS:Hawk product will be $49.99
We feel that is reasonably priced for what you will get in this version which is basically everything you would expect in a DCS level fidelity aircraft apart from AFM.
By releasing the aircraft next month and taking sales it allows us to further invest in the AFM programming. As you know I have fully funded development over the past few years but further investment is required and this is the best way to do it. We get investment and you get to fly the product, win win on both sides.
To clarify; this will be a paid-for BETA version. Some things will not be implemented fully yet and we will make it very clear at the time of selling what is included and what is still left to be completed.
Thank you again for all of your support and interest in our products.
Chris and the VEAO team.
Also please note that past competition winners will receive the FC3 Hawk and the upgrade to DCS:Hawk when it's available.

For the first bit of eye candy for 2014 we thought we'd have a go at the Mach Loop Challenge by Baron.
This is Javelin and I flying the mach loop and some formation fun.
I just love the cloud reflections and wingtip vortices!!

I'll be making a high res video soon showing some portions of this flight but you can see the raw live footage here.
We'll include the mission in the Hawk release and will run a competition using it.
We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed flying it ~

VEAO Hawk Mk1 Update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1983611&postcount=959
Hey guys,
It's been a while since the last dev diary update so apologies for that and you'll read below why that is.
No news is good news right
The team have been extremely busy over the past few weeks getting a Beta release ready for the beta testers to have a play with and I think judging by the feedback we're getting they are loving the improvements to the jet.
We've had a couple of bugs running around the system; things like HUD not working and weapons unexpectedly not firing from one wing but they are under control and will be fixed in the next patch for the testers.
We also had a good multiplayer test last week and all jet slots in the mission were filled with testers lining up to get some flight time. Thanks to Snoopy for organising that and it went very well. It was also very humbling to see over 9 Hawk's flying around in the same airspace, and not all doing aerobatics.
Damage Model
And now to talk about something we haven't really mentioned before; the Damage Model.
We've kept this a very closely guarded secret and for good reasons.
Crow has done some amazing work on the damage model and break down of the collision model ready for the February release which will then be further worked on during the public Beta phase.
The aircraft has been broken down into "cells" which are specific to certain parts of the airframe, and systems within them.
When a cell gets hit by a bullet as an example, the part of the 3d model within the cell will show damage but we're not stopping there.
Within each cell we know what "system" is affected, be it hydraulics, electrical, etc. and that system will either degrade over time or outright be non functional upon the hit. This will have knock effects to other systems that the damaged system is tied into.
One simple example could be that a wire leading to the nav light, within a wing section is damaged. The nav light may work perfectly for an amount of time before ceasing to function.
This is the level of detail we will be going into throughout the Beta stage.
I'm not going to reveal any graphics, renders or screenshots just yet but let me throw some numbers at you.
So, to the numbers. Here is a breakdown of the amount of cells for each section of the aircraft:
Front section - 12 cells
Mid section - 12 cells
Aft section - 19 cells
Wing section - 17 cells
Total damage cells - 60
That's a whole lot of damage to be taken on specific sections of the aircraft and the systems within them that can be affected, I hope you agree.
The model has been updated to incorporate these cells and like I said some of the cells have had the damage 3d model applied to them. Blondie is re-texturing the main skins to take account of the new 3d model and Snoopy is looking at the US skins as well.
Once we put all of the pieces back together again and into the mod and released to the testers I'll post up some screens.
To the Future
We are still on track for a release at the end of February.
Ed have done some updates to core DCS World for us that affects multiplayer capability, I.e. if you don't have the mod installed, you can't get in the aircraft and we'll be testing those out over the next couple of weeks.
We're working on our backend and frontend payment and licensing process, with integration into ED's own website system, module manager and of course Steam.
So the next four weeks for the team are going to be our busiest I think to get this amazing product out to you.
Once again thank you for all of your support and enthusiasm, it is amazing!!!
Chris and the team.

VEAO Hawk update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1985713&postcount=994
Good morning guys and what a beautiful sunny morning it is in London today, I feel a productive day coming up
Damage Model
To carry on the discussion about our damage model; essentially Crow has finished the modeling for the damage model and I have to say what an amazing job he has done!!
Here is a list of the cells that I talked about earlier and as you can see there are a lot!!
http://www.veaosimulations.co.uk/dcshawk/media/Damage-Cells.jpg
Each cell within the sim recognises when it has been hit and the damage will vary from small bullet holes to large holes to complete damage.
That's now handed over to Tango who will start to code the damage model to the systems which is no easy task.
The damage model as it is now will be included in the February release but the systems damage model will be worked on through the public Beta phase as it's a mammoth task.
As an example here is the schematic of the modelled hydraulic system.
http://www.veaosimulations.co.uk/dcshawk/media/hydraulic.jpg
You can see the level of detail that has been coded into the Hawk in just this one system and there are a few to work through.
For future reference I'll be describing these as "systems damage model" so you know what I'm talking about.
Apologies about the blurred pictures bit I want our testers to have a go at shooting each other and testing the damage model first before posting up images publically.
This is the part I don't like, seeing out jet all shot up
HUD
The HUD has been tweaked and the HUD glass 3d model has been put into the mod.
Still a little bit of tweaking to do to make it fit perfectly but at least the testers can actually aim the rockets and guns now.
To Do
What's on my to-do list today:
Keyboard and joystick controls integration - I'm going around the cockpit coding in all the switches, dials and levers into the default templates so it makes it easier to assign your controls. I'll then hand that to Tango to integrate into our code so they actually work.
Training missions - The engine start up sequence has changed, so I need to amend the first training mission and then carry on writing the other missions for navigation, weapons, etc.
And as this is a British aircraft I'm afraid no Morgan Freeman voice over, you'll have an expert airline pilot Captains voice instead
CRM - I think i've mentioned this before but we will have a CRM system where you can log in to retrieve your activation codes. We're still working with ED on hooking our system into the module manager within DCS World but we also need this independently for our licence system, so I'm working on some of that today. This also includes the Paypal integration and testing so I feel my credit card getting a bit heavier today. I just hope the refund section works!!!
Here is my current test page:
http://www.veaosimulations.co.uk/dcshawk/media/payments-test.jpg
That's all for today and I hope you have a lovely Sunday,
Chris.

VEAO Hawk update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=122826
Following the announcement from Wags on DCS Product Terms, we are pleased to clarify the following for the Hawk:
Hawk for DCS - Standard Flight Model (SFM) and Advanced Systems Modelling (ASM) - Initial Release
DCS Hawk - (in development) Professional Flight Modeling (PFM) and Advanced Systems Modelling (ASM)
Definitions:
Standard Flight Model (SFM). This has not changed and defines a more data-driven means of achieving flight dynamics, in conjunction with some scripting.
Professional Flight Model (PFM). This is generations beyond an AFM/AFM+ and is based upon:
Use a wider array of wind tunnel tests CFD methods for aerodynamics parameters calculations.
A higher level of aircraft construction details for forces calculations. For example: our landing gear model includes individual kinematics of retracting/extending is used to calculate its movement, servo-piston forces, etc. In such cases, we truly use real lengths, arms, etc. This also includes such items as a realistic simulation of airflow along the airframe due to the propeller or helicopter rotor thrust.
Realistic simulation of Flight Control, CAS and Autopilot systems.
Realistic simulation of Hydraulics, Fuel, Electrical, Engine and other systems influence flight characteristics.
Unprecedented access to test data packs.
Advanced Systems Modeling (ASM). An ASM enabled aircraft goes into great depth to model the intricacies of the various cockpit systems, to include functionality for almost all the buttons, switches, dials, etc. A key element of an ASM cockpit is the ability to interact with it using your mouse. ASM DCS examples include the A-10C, Ka-50, P-51D, UH-1H and Mi-8MTV2.
For Wags original post, please see here:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2039947#post2039947
I will be updating the Hawk product page today and will release the link shortly.

Update Time
Hey guys,
Well it's been a little while since the last update so I thought I'd bring you up to speed on what's been happening over the past few weeks.
As you know we're gearing up ready to release the Hawk to you and that involves the testers trying to break things and we fix them for them to break them again so we can fix them a little bit more. Boring right, well that's what makes the perfect DCS aircraft so that's the process we go through and have been going through since we gave the 1.2.8. version to the testing team.
Suffice to say we're having a little issue with certain navigation systems that Tango is working through with the testing team.
We opted to create our own navigation system for our aircraft. There were a few reasons for this that have been mentioned already, for current and future aircraft.
With this brings inherent problems that I'm confident Tango can work through.
Work on the rear cockpit has been ongoing for a while now and I've shown off some eye candy recently showing that. The rear cockpit modelling is almost finished and will be handed over to our cockpit texture artist very soon.
We will then start work on the switch implementation system in tandem allowing for front and rear control of the aircraft via seat switching.
Multiplayer control and dual sharing of the cockpit will come down the road later either using ED's system or our own.
Which brings me on to the re-texturing of the front cockpit. The textures you currently see and will get at release are our basic textures. Very soon after public release we will release the high-res pack as part of a patch. I'll post up some comparison shots soon but want to let the team get on with it a little bit more before I do that.
We're working with ED to implement the Hawk into core DCS as an AI aircraft.
This means that even if you haven't bought the Hawk, you can still see it flying around in the sim negating the need for a multiplayer patch.
We're also working together on fixing a few key bugs that are preventing public release.
I have a military tech demo this coming Friday so have been busy mission writing and fine tuning a few things for that.
When I'm back next week I'll be finishing off the manual, training missions and missions that will ship with the public release.
We also have a few volunteer translators that will first translate the quickstart manual, followed by the full manual.
The voice overs for the training missions are also being recorded and will be updated into the training missions at a later patch.
Which nicely leads on to the patching system. We are in discussion with ED on how best to patch the aircraft in future. As I've mentioned the Hawk will be part of core DCS but that opens up discussions on SFM/EFM versions and we're working through that at the moment.
We can guarantee that it will be the least inconvenience to you that won't affect the version you have bought.
And on to the CRM system, this is the front and back end processing for taking orders and payment from our web site. Work has started on the back end and front end pages and we'll be letting our testers have a little play with that soon.
Part of that system are the product pages which are almost complete for the Hawk.
We've elected to mirror the ED website product pages so it is familiar to you, and so we can easily implement the product within ED's own website and Module Manager.
Licensing issues with BAE are ongoing with our lawyers but hopefully we can get to a resolution quickly.
That's a pretty good snapshot of what we're working on and I hope to bring you some more eye candy really soon.
As to when we will release, well you'll just have to wait and see....
Thanks,
Chris.

For those that might have missed in the news with the 1.2.16 release:
---
HAWK FOR DCS WORLD BY VEAO SIMULATIONS IS AVAILABLE IN DCS E-SHOP!
DUXFORD, UK, March 24th, 2015 VEAO, in cooperation with The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics, are pleased to announce the release of Hawk for DCS World from the DCS e-shop.
Hawk for DCS World includes the BAE Hawk T.1A, an advanced flying-training aircraft and a weapons-training aircraft. While the Hawk T1 is used solely in the advanced flying-training role, the Hawk T1A is equipped to an operational standard and is capable of undertaking a number of war roles.
The Hawk T1 version is currently used at RAF Valley for fast-jet pilot advanced flying training with No 208(R) Squadron, and at RAF Scampton by the RAF Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows.
The T1A is used for weapons and tactical training on No 19(R) Squadron at RAF Valley, and by No 100 Squadron at RAF Leeming for advanced fast-jet weapons systems officer training and operational support-flying. In its weapons and tactical training role the Hawk is used to teach air combat, air-to-air firing, air-to-ground firing and low-flying techniques and operational procedures.
The T1A has four under-wing pylons cleared to carry Sidewinder AIM-9L air-to-air missiles, rocket pods, practice bombs and bombs, and can carry a 30mm Aden cannon in a pod underneath the fuselage centre-line.
As a current Royal Navy aggressor pilot operating the Hawk T1, I was offered the opportunity to test the VEAO Hawk. I was initially skeptical of how accurate the modelling would be of the handling and the jet engine response. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. I found the controls and aircraft responses accurate. The flight model performs as well as the full motion simulator used by the RAF. Flying in formation was easy and very similar to the real thing. I was extremely impressed by the headset integration and immediately felt operational pilots could benefit from training on this software.
In short, the VEAO Hawk is more than a game and comparable to a military grade full motion simulator. In fact, I would even go so far as to say the terrain graphics are higher fidelity whilst flying at low level.

Fast Jet Qualified Weapons Instructor
Hawk for DCS World pre-purchase includes the Hawk T.1A with a standard flight model for $31.99 USD (a 20% discount over the final price). In the spring of 2015, an Advanced Flight Model (AFM) will be available as a separate product with an upgrade option directly from VEAO.
Key Features of the Hawk T.1A for DCS World:
Accurate and highly detailed 3D interactive cockpit featuring six-degrees-of-freedom (6DOF) technology compatible with head-tracking devices and Oculus Rift.
Accurate modelling of the Hawk HUD, instruments, gauges and dials.
High fidelity accurate Advanced Systems Modelling (ASM) such as electrical, fuel, hydraulics, oxygen, pressurisation and air conditioning, temperature control, pitot-static, AHRS, lighting and weapons system modelled to detailed schematics.

VEAO get free the EFM update to the Bae Hawk T.1 SFM and a discount to the costumers with purchase the EFM update.
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2415691&postcount=1
Dear All,
I have had lengthy discussions with the VEAO team and ED this morning and we have come to an agreement regarding the confusion over SFM vs EFM and what has been purchased on ED store and Steam.
Any customers that have purchased the "Hawk T.1A for DCS World" from the ED store will automatically receive an upgrade to the External Flight Model (EFM) version at the time of release, free-of-charge.
Any customers that have purchased the "Hawk for DCS World" on Steam will automatically receive an upgrade to the External Flight Model (EFM) version at the time of release, free-of-charge.
Any customers that have purchased the "DCS:Hawk (EFM) Beta (Pre-sale)" on VEAO Simulations website will automatically receive an upgrade to the External Flight Model (EFM) version at the time of release and will also receive a coupon code via email giving them $10 discount on future products in the VEAO DCS: World catalogue.
The coupon will only be valid for customers that have purchased the EFM pre-sale version of Hawk directly from VEAO as they have already paid for the $10 upgrade price from SFM to EFM.
We felt that this was the fairest way to level all products bought.
If you have any further questions please post here or email support@veaosimulations.co.uk
Thanks,
Chris.

Hawk january update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2650544&postcount=5
Pete and I are typing up the update for January this week , so don't worry it's coming.
Hawk certainly has not been forgotten, I've had a few meetings this month with BAE to clarify a few things and get feedback, which is all positive.
I've also been working on closing out reported bugs, radios, etc...
The real pilots have until the end of this month to give us the feedback, plus Jav and I are concentrated on the next few weeks comparing our current EFM to the performance data we have recently obtained through our sources.
EFM programming updating, based on all feedback, is scheduled for February which should be fairly simple tweaks as the current EFM is very close. But as with all things DCS integration we'll see.
Our aim is to have it to our testers and to ED for final sign off by the end of February.
Then it's down to ED to include it in the patch.
We have tweaked the hydraulics to hopefully assist the X-55 users and will await their feedback when it's out for testing.
Also the cockpit textures are coming along nicely. I have the first pass from the artist and I think you won't be disappointed. Still some tweaks to do but it's looking great so far (no I won't be showing this off). Again I'm aiming to have these within the patch with the EFM, all going well.
Custom weapons are taking a little longer to integrate for various reasons I can't discuss right now, but they are also being worked on.
I have recently clarified with the techs and written the full UHF and AM radio procedure for our programmer which is being worked on. Right now in-sim you can use the radio to talk to the ground crew in case you missed that update in the last 1.5 and 2.0 patch. That was a big first step.
I understand all 3rd party's had issues with radios so it's good to know it wasn't just us going crazy.
Again these are not easy things to get working, but we are working on it and I hope they'll be done ready for the next big patch with textures and EFM.
Considerable time, resources and funds have been allocated to Hawk to get completed (out of Beta) and it is certainly not "dead" so please don't start spreading that rumour around or speculating that.
Things take time guys and we're going as fast as we can to get it right and realistic as possible within the boundaries we have been given.
When the top Military advisor for Sims for BaE Systems, two weeks ago, says it's "Outstanding!!" then I believe we have done a good job.
And yes he was flying the EFM.
And for anyone wishing to argue, he is an ex Hawk, Harrier and Tornado pilot, so....
Pretty much this is the update that will be in the monthly text and hopefully it keeps you happy, not as happy as having the updates I know, but hopefully another step closer.
Oh, one thing I want to mention after reading again another slagging off of myself and my team on Reddit; we are not "hiding" behind ED forums which are moderated.
If anyone wants to challenge me or simply to discuss things then all they have to do it contact me directly and I'll gladly talk to them.
However; I will defend the decisions I make, what we are doing as a business and my team so be prepared for an argument!!
Thanks,
Chris.

VEAO Bae Hawk T.1 Febriary update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2670971&postcount=1
Hey guys,
I know we're only a little way into February but I've read a lot of negative comments on forums and Facebook that we're not working on Hawk anymore, the project is abandoned, blah blah blah.
Obviously people either don't read the updates we post on our Facebook page and forums, or they just want to stir shiz up and be negative.
I do however, understand peoples frustrations and the delays we have had over the past year are no concern to you, but if we can't get a product working for technical reasons then there's not much we can do but bug hunt and fix it, sometimes this is not an overnight process, especially with two new versions of DCS being released which also seemed to brake a few things along the way. Such is development.
Let me clarify; you are purchasing or have purchased an early access product during Beta development stage. Some features may not be complete and features may change during development and in the final version. If you are not excited to fly this product in its current state, then you should wait to see how the product progresses further in development and purchase when it is released in its final version or accept that is it in Beta development and work in progress.
So, here is the list of what we are working on in February, and have been for the past 8 days of the month and before that:
Feedback from the Hawk pilots is being updated on our current EFM flight model. It has been thoroughly tested and verified to be authentic and realistic to flying a Hawk.
With the change to EFM comes additional features like differential toe brakes, parking brake and much more. We hope you enjoy flying it as much as we have testing it over the past few months.
By the end of this month the EFM will be released to ED for testing and verification and we will discuss with ED when the next patch for 1.5 and 2.0 can be put out with the update.
The main cockpit textures are now implemented in the model. Our texture artist has done an excellent job making the cockpit look more realistic.
Screenshots do not do his work justice as much as rolling around with the sun reflecting off of every surface showing the level of detail.
He is carrying on with the remainder of the cockpit like switches, dials, gauges, etc.
What is shown below are current WIP screenshots. I'm sure most will like them and some will not...
Here is the remaining list of fixes and issues being worked on during February:
Weapons selector not working since 1.5.2 update.
Air start option - start with weapons system live including sidewinder cooling down time.
Sidewinder tone added.
Radio UHF and AM coms working (ground crew currently works ok).
When part of an aircraft wing is destroyed, the weps and lights still show (this will be done as part of EFM/ASM integration).
Airbrake test switch not working.
Realistic sounds to be added to external and cockpit.
Kneeboard joystick assignments not working for mark map and next/prev pages.
Det cord showing inside of canopy when looking back.
Controls indicator (Ctrl+Enter) working.
Auto start/stop commands working.
Altimeters 10,000 number rolling over too soon indicating 1950ft when it's 950ft.
Custom weapons added.
Damage model showing on some AI / multiplayer aircraft when air-brake deployed.
Add AHRS to start-up training mission.
Add remaining navigation training missions.
Safety pins removed from the model.
Other bugs reported by testers and public.
So, as you can see Hawk has not been abandoned and is very much on our focus.
Should anyone wish to challenge this then feel free to discuss it with me personally!!!

VEAO Bae Hawk March second update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2726899#post2726899
Hey Guys,
Following a Go / No-Go meeting we just had and feedback from ED testers and our own testers I wanted to make a post today specifically about the Hawk patch and it's current state.
As you know we like to keep you informed every step of the way even if we are having problems.
Let me start by saying no one wants to get this big patch out to you more than we do and we are so very close
So where are we at....
With the 1.5.3 patch due this week you will get the new and improved cockpit textures.
There are still some things to be worked on but the main bulk of panels base textures have been re-worked.
Details such as screw heads, oxy switch, LP Fuel Cock lever Etc. will be in the next round of texture updates as our artist sources parts for his PC as it blew up, great timing I know.
The EFM is complete, has been tweaked and signed off by the real life pilots.
However; when we switch to EFM we lose all current sounds; cockpit and engine.
This is expected as the aircraft is not using an SFM flight model and therefore stock DCS sounds.
We have been working very hard to get our custom sounds working and this is the current state:
Inverter, batteries, fuel pump, gyro's and GTS startup/shutdown are all working.
Adour engine start up in cockpit - currently working.
Adour running idle with canopy open or closed in cockpit (different sound) - currently working.
Adour sound changes depending on RPM - partially working. The sounds are blending but pitch is not increasing or decreasing with rpm setting.
External engine sounds are currently not working.
We are having issues with the sound API and are working hard to resolve these. Hopefully in the next few days as good progress has been made over the last few days but we are simply going as fast as we can on it.
Radios are also partially working. In one of the recent DCS updates the ability for DCS to detect our engine RPM suddenly stopped working (you can see this with F2 view status bar).
This has a big effect on radios working.
ATC will not respond to you if you request taxi out, take off or landing as the sim thinks your engine is dead.
We are working with ED on this one as something changed in the core sim and the code they gave has stopped working.
Somehow this has also affected the ability to talk to wingmen, AWACS, JTAC and other units, which were working as you saw from an earlier video I posted up.
This is one of those head banging against a brick wall moments for us!!
Here is a summary of the Go / No-Go list for the big patch:
Cockpit textures - Go
EFM - Go
EFM damage model - Go
Cockpit Sounds - Go
External Sounds - No Go
Radios - No Go
So, with these last two items not fully working we had to make the decision that we would not make the 1.5.3 patch in time this week.
Yes we could have released without these last two items but I am not comfortable doing that for obvious reasons, as much as I want to get you the EFM.
We were fully confident that we would make it for the patch but as with all software development some things happen that you just can't explain and have to keep at it until it finally works, especially integrating with DCS. It's not as easy as some people think it is.
I hope you will enjoy the updated cockpit textures coming in the 1.5.3 patch and as soon as I know when the next patch is due from ED and the two remaining items are fixed you'll be the first to know.
Thanks again as always for your continued patience and support,
Chris and the team.

VEAO April Bae Hawk T.M1 update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2744082&postcount=1
Hi Guys,
Here is a quick update on Hawk for April.
We have been battling with the sound API for DCS getting custom engine sounds working.
Our friends at Razbam have been helping us out trading ideas for what we've done and what they've done. More heads are better than one...
So far we have working cockpit engine sounds and are still working on external sounds using the API.
That being said, the EFM will be released in the upcoming 2.0.2 patch first (due to release schedule) which will give you the opportunity to fly and give us feedback.
It will then be in the next 1.5 patch whenever that is.
I'd like to thank you for your patience in waiting whilst we work through these issues.
Look out for the upcoming patch notes posted by ED.
We have been reviewing comments on the updated textures and are working to optimise them a little more, plus working on other details to make the whole cockpit better.
Thanks,
Chris.

VEAO Hawk develop update with 2.0.2 DCS: W update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2745558&postcount=33
Hey Guys,
Here's a little video for you of what you'll be getting.
https://youtu.be/4cb7_bgDMis
External engine and cockpit sound test of DCS: Hawk for the upcoming DCS: World OpenAlpha 2.0.2 patch, including EFM.
Raw video recorded straight from the flight, no sound editing.
I threw her about for a couple of flat spins and some low level ground effect flying.
All still work-in-progress of course.
Video is 2560x1080
Edit - Apologies for the black spots, seems like Fraps had a little issue.

VEAO put detail with the feedback of the consulting pilots of the Hawk T.1
https://www.facebook.com/VEAO-Simulations-130582376992838/?fref=nf
Hey Guys,
I have been speaking to some of our consulting pilots regarding a couple of things that have been raised by the community.
Regarding the nodding dog - accelerated stall - They have confirmed that the is no flick at all and the the stall is straight nose down and even then you have to be quite aggressive to induce this effect. We will most likely soften the effect slightly to make it a little less jerky but the way the effect works will not be changed based on this first hand feedback.
Regarding buffeting during accelerated stall, they have advised that there is very minimal buffeting and that it is more of a vibration through the seat rather then a full blown buffet. In this instance we will not be implementing a visual effect for this, however if we ever do a full FFB profile in the future we will include a minor vibration when approaching the nodding dog effect. Even so this vibration is only felt very very close to the stall and not through the pull into the stall.
Flaps and Gear drag / pitch changes, they have given us some more detailed feedback on the pitch effects of these, Flaps is a very slight pitch up per indent, gear is a very slight nose down. One knock of flaps cancels out the gear and with full flaps the nose climbs very slightly.
The airbrake is a slight nose down attitude change.
This feedback will be implemented in an upcoming EFM change, We are working on the crashing issue at the moment, then we will implement some more of this fine tuned feedback.
I thought you guys might like a summary of the feedback from the pilots.
Feedback like this is what will take our Hawk to the next level

VEAO Bae Hawk T.1 Update
http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2846831&postcount=1
Hey Guys,
Now the falling-out-the-sky issue has been resolved here is an update on the main Hawk bugs list for you.
Weapons selector has been fixed (YAY I hear you shout!!).
Flaps and gear down now affect the flight model.
Smoke pod we are still looking into and this will come later.
Aden gun pod will hopefully have it's texture by patch day.
Aden sounds we are waiting on feedback for.
Rudder sensitivity has been tweaked and is currently being tested.
AHRS power spike on re-spawn and HYD2 reset on re-spawn are still being worked on.
DFM (Damage flight model) is being worked on following feedback from ED.
NTTR map ILS for airfields is being tested.
Controls indicator (RCtrl+Enter) is being tested.
Other reported bugs/tweaks are also being looked at.
Keep an eye out for the patch list as to what has made it in for the next patch.
With regards to EFM; one of our pilots is taking up his go-pro on his next training sortie and will record the spin behaviour of the Hawk for us.
We will of course analyse this and tweak the EFM accordingly and post up a comparison video.
I can assure you that Hawk is still being worked on to bring it out of Beta status as soon as we can.
Many thanks,
Chris.

VEAO Bae Hawk T.1 multicrew cockpit total reconstruction by ED and VEAO team
https://www.facebook.com/veaosimulations/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE&fref=nf
Hi all.
It's very rare that I post in the forums but now I feel compelled to tell you of the background behind the exciting developments coming to the Hawk version 2.
The thing is Ells is a modest chap so you won't know the amount of work he puts into rectifying the Hawk and how much he cares about the product.
The pressure is really on VEAO at the moment with the imminent release of the P40f and, as a result, Pman and his teams are working flat out on producing, what I believe, will be a fantastic warbird in every sense. But there has been little resource left for our little Hawk.
However Ells and I have been secretly working on this new update for the last few weeks and I have to say it has been an absolute pleasure to watch and learn. From working with 3D models to understanding program structure and module coding Ells has worked tirelessly and as a result we can bring to you now a major update to the Hawk.
So what's the big deal.....
Well right from the beginning Ells has always wanted to have 2 seat capability in the Hawk but we have always hit problems when we tried to implement it. The final straw was when the L39 came out and we realised that we would have to rewrite the entire Hawk code as (learning from the L39) ED coding required separate instances of clickable j based on seat occupied. Our Hawk was coded such that all cockpit switches were available from either seat. This meant in practice that you may be able to mouse over and click on forward cockpit switches from the rear seat through the front ejection seat. Clearly undesirable . This lead Ells to reluctantly announce that the rear cockpit would not be available until after a complete code rewrite.
Then we had a eureka moment.
We found that, buried in the code, there was a maximum distance which, once exceeded you would no longer be able to operate a switch with the mouse. The rear cockpit was again viable!
Many thanks to Alex at ED for his help in uncovering this and many other programming functions in DCS world
Now it was dark back there in the rear. Half the gauges didn't work properly, no lighting, misplaced 3D objects and no inter connectivity with the front cockpit. The weapons panel had to report and indicate switch selections in the front and we couldn't get the rear head position to work correctly. All in all we produced a list of over 25 project stopping bugs which, as mentioned earlier, Ells enthusiastically worked through, with me, to the end result that I can now tell you that we have single player rear seat capability in the Hawk and the view is great from back there!
If you're using track i/r or VR you can look round the front ejector seat and see everything functioning correctly in the front and the elevated seat position is great for take off and landing. You can even map a joystick function to swap seats on the fly for the best of both worlds.
Whilst working on the rear seat we also took the time to rectify and energise some of the systems that were non functional in Hawk version 1. We now have working brake pressure gauges and transponder functionality anyway, Ells will let you know the full list of upgrades in due course.
I was very fortunate to be given by a friend of mine, who used to fly the Hawk, an original Hawk t1 ,hard bound, flight manual and checklist, including hand written notes. I've scanned the checklists and emergency checklist into the kneeboard so that now, when you fly, you'll be using the actual checklist that's travelled at 400Kts through the valleys many times in the real Hawk. It's a testament to the ASM coding by The team that the checklist works very well with our Hawk.
That's it from me. I'm sure you'll hear a lot more from the guys about further improvements to the Hawk in future including new textures and multiplayer capability etc etc. But, as I said at the beginning, Ells is a modest chap and I just wanted to convey the excitement and pleasure, I've seen in him bringing, to you, something ,I know, he's wanted you to have all along........ Enjoy.
