Almost all spiders are venomous. Take ol' honga aspersa, the Wolf Spider so very common in my neck of the woods. They're big, but not deadly.

And they're family oriented.

Heck, I have venomous spiders in my basement.

Don't know how they get in...but I find Brown Recluse spiders all over the place. And Black Widows can be found just outside.

Even if you do not suffer from arachnophobia an unexpected Wolf Spider will surprise you.

In Florida and most of the Eastern seaboard you have Black Widows and Brown Recluse both can be deadly to a human though it is very rare for someone to die from a bite.

My favorite spider is the Banana Spider.

Spiders can fit into tiny gaps that you would never even see and some got into your house while it was being built and as the generations passed down most of the offspring stayed.

You are more than likely mistaking a common house spider for a Brown Recluse though not to say that if you really searched in the typical house you would not find one but you would never have a large number.

I would look the two up online and if you really do have lots of Brown Recluses you need to get your parents to call an exterminator. It will be much cheaper than the bill for a bite from one which any of your pets may or may not survive.

I'm not a spider expert so I probably do mistakenly ID them for different kinds.

Did some more research...

Brown Recluses have found their way into my basement...but not as much as the other, more common types. I haven't seen any in a while. I used to see similar spiders dead at the bottom of old boxes...but come to think of it, we did bring in an exterminator a few years back. Haven't seen too many inside since then.

There's usually at least one Black Widow per summer on my deck though.

One thing I like about spiders though, is other people's reaction to them. It's hilarious when you suddenly find out that somebody is deathly afraid of spiders even though the one in your hand is plastic.

You should really have to search to find a Recluse.I think I have only seen them a few times in my life. Two or three times when I was a kid at my house and only once that I can think of as an adult.

Though I did possibly get bitten by once during an exercise in Texas.I got a weird spot on my ankle and it looked wicked nasty. The doc said that I must have been bitten by a Brown Recluse or one of the other spiders that live in Texas. What ever it was it bit me while I was asleep so I did not notice it not right away at least. The upside was I got one month of convalescent leave and after 4 days of laying around with my leg propped up popping antibiotics of some sort I was good to go so I went to Mexico not much of a trek from Tuscon .

I knew a guy that came back from the gulf with thousands of ickle-baby camel spiders in his gear, his wife wasn't at all happy that they had to move out with a baby whilst the flat was fumigated. The amount of troops in and out over there it must've happened to other too.

I got bit by a recluse in the 90's pressure washing a old wood roof, least told that by the hospital. I thought a bee had got under my shirt, felt a bite on my stomach and just smashed it and went back to work. By that night I had a mild fever and the spot had a small red dot with a white circle around it. The next morning the spot was very swollen, puss filled, with a large white circle, by the end of that day I was sick, so went to hospital. He drained it and put me on meds, said if I waited much longer that white spot was dying tissue and would all had to been cut out. In fact, a few weeks late, the white went black and had some of it removed.

The worse bug bite I've ever had as far as pain was a caterpillar on the neck, think it was called a saddleback.

I have seen Black Widows in MD. We have a plethora of other spiders as well. Personally, I hate them all.

Sound much like what happened to me only it was just above my ankle and I was either asleep or did not notice it.They say the pain level form the bite can vary from little more than a prick to a bee or wasp sting.

I got lucky though as I did not really get sick though my upper foot and ankle where swollen. They also figured it was a bite as well so it must have bit me only an hour or so before I woke up.

They actually gave me an IV with antibiotics right away which surely must have helped.Still I had to use crutches for a few days as it was very painful to put any weight on that ankle. So the the doc gave me convalescent leave. It was pretty funny because he obviously knew that just a few days of resting my leg would clear it up.He pretty much gave me a wink when he wrote down one month. He "ordered" me to go on a vacation. The great thing about convalescent leave in the military is that it does not cost any of your regular earned leave and you do not need approval because it is ordered by a doctor.

In the end I was actually glad that spider bit me.I had to hobble around for two or three days then I got to rest my leg and all was well so I just took the meds they prescribed me and went on a three week vacation.

I used to work a job that required crawling around under houses. They were always filled with spiders and their webs. I just gave them the clap wearing leather gloves and washed the buggas down with chlordane afterwards.
Most commercial bug killers have no effect on spiders but people still waste their money on the stuff. I like spiders. They kill pest insects.

My wife was spraying a very large spider with spider killer. He was in our basement. He laughed it off several times. Kept on walking. He got the big shoe after that. I have no less than 1000 spider around my house. Inside we do not want any.

Given that all spiders are venomous, I'd be surprised if you didn't have them in your state. Whether the venom is dangerous to humans is another thing.

Spiders do not die from most store purchased pesticides because the pesticide is unable to be absorbed through the spiders skin.

Of course as others said they are actually a very useful thing to have in and around your house.Just like rattlesnakes people want to kill them but they are actually not aggressive and they eat rodents that would other wise would be a major pest as well as spread diseases.

Oh, a list of spiders. Wow, Arizona has seven types. California beats them with eight. I'm so glad I'm not in either of those.

Damnit, Texas!
I'm just going to stay inside now.

I have to admit I'm scared of spiders.

Snakes I am fascinated by and have no fear, but an ugly spider anywhere near me freaks me out.

sincerely,
A Wuss
