Is it possible to set up all your tubes for firing on diffrent targets and just fire them when all set,or do you have to lock on to each target one ay a time, work out range speed angle on the bow for each one?? the latter doesnt seem right as your first torpedo would have hit the first ship as your still working out secnot target solution!

any help ar advice would be fantastic, thanks:up:

I assume you are trying to attack multiple targets in a convoy. My approach to this problem is to always set up for a 90 degree attack- all the targets in the convoy should be on the same heading at the same speed, both of which are easy enough to work out. Range will be irrelevant. Just open your tube, point the periscope at the ship you want and fire. Open the next tube, aim at a target and fire. Try and keep the gyro angle as close to zero as you can i.e. the torpedo goes straight ahead. So if the ship is approaching from your left at seven knots fire when it reaches the 350 mark and the ship and torpedo should meet somewhere on the 000 bearing. Not always possible , but that`s the ideal.

In my experience it is best not to spray your torpedoes all over the convoy; a single hit rarely seems to stop a big ship or even slow it down. I think it`s best to pick out a couple of the biggest targets and let them have a couple each, but having said that, I will always target a smaller ship that`s close rather than risk a shot on a big ship at long range. Anyway it`s your choice; you may be a better shot than me.

I also head straight for the bottom immediately the last tube has been fired. Hopefully, I will be about 100 meters down by the time the first torpedo strikes.

Hope this helps.

any help ar advice would be fantastic, thanks:up:The TDC settings are mostly the same for different targets. Speed and course is obviously the same since they are all going to the same place in a group. Assuming they didn't detect you and started zig/zagging. (looks more like drunken sailors weaving across the street)

Technically, the target course cannot be set in the TDC. But you set AOB while the periscope is looking at a certain bearing. When you set the TDC button back to auto mode (hiding the dials) the AOB and the periscope bearing are locked to one another. So pointing the periscope elsewhere updates the AOB. There is no need to lock the periscope on the target AT ALL. Infact, prolonged viewing of the target when the periscope is up can get you detected. So keep it minimal, aim at whatever you fancy hitting and fire. Down periscope! There is a torpedo cam to satisfy your senses and suspense

Like what was said, if the torpedoes have a small gyro angle from the bow, they move straigt ahead out of the tube. Then the range setting is unimportant, as this is only needed to correct for 'torpedo approach'-parallax. Because the torpedo-tubes are not right below the periscope, and because they move a straight section before they arc around, they approach the target from a slightly different angle as you would view it from the periscope. This correction to the gyro angle is done automatically by the TDC, and is only significant when the target is near, and the bearing near 90/270. So, if shooting straight ahead, ignore the range bit! But if you must account for it, then you must set it at the time of shooting. As nothing updates or corrects the range as time passes by. The trick is to set it at moments when the range doesn't change much. (hint: when AOB is near 90, the closest point of approach)

Speed, now that is something you need to get right. It's the biggest factor in getting the torpedo on the right part of the hull. The further away the target is, the more accurate it needs to be. Invest the time to measure this as accurate as you can. By plotting over atleast 13 minutes, or by a method known as 'fixed wire'. OLC does this in his video with the stopwatch with colored circles, and also (ab)uses a scratch mark on the AOB finder to calculate the speed from the passage time and length of the target. Units do not necessarily move at rounded number speeds. Don't fall for that simplification.

The TDC certainly does not remember the settings for different targets. Except the torpedo depth. Torpedo speed settings of type-1s is under the influence of a bug when you select different tubes. Make sure you (re-)set it before firing when you have type 1 and type 2 torpedoes loaded and changed between them.

I made several tweaks to my message. You may want to re-read it.
