My own personal take is that he should be grateful the security measures appeared to be working on this occasion.

Of course, the ridiculous reporting by The Sunday Express didn't help matters.

These things can happen....he didn't exactly get it right in his choice of wife.

Not an Issue: As a former Fed guard at the Xray machine entry of all GSA federal buildings ETC., all are ID'D without fail/ no id, no entry, including high rankers and Congress members. As there have been security lapses to the point of HRH E.'s bedroom and the death of Mountbatton (uncle) on his own yacht, in the age of terror, the Duke cannot be other than appreciative. He is a former combat pilot in his own right (Falklands) and a viable terror target at any time. To err on the side of caution is a prime military/security rule he well understands. He sleeps better knowing these 'varlets' are taking no chances. When, on occasion, a stuffy ID-less supremo would be angry at me, we would just accuse them of 'testing' us and that would generally restore their attitude and more courteous outlook.:arrgh!:

The Sunday Express earlier reported officers pointed their guns and ordered him to "put your hands up and get on the ground" after mistaking him for an intruder.

Whenever I've done guard duties and challenged anyone it's been received well, but I've known of some commissioned officers (usually quite new) challenged by others who've then complained about it. Luckily it doesn't usually take much to make them see the error of their ways, and if needed then (all) the station commander(s) is(are) always on the side of the guards as long as all procedure is correct - I doubt he'd agree to a challenge of 'put your hands up and get on the ground!'.
