Microsoft paid 7.2 billion for Nokia's device division (aka, their phone making). In the process obtaining 32000 employees. And the most critical man of them all, Stephan Elop. Microsoft will license all Nokia technologies, and license the Nokia brand. Nokia will license much of Microsoft's mobile and mapping technologies.
People don't know how influential Elop is, but arguably, he is as influential as Steve Jobs in the tech world. Definitely Microsoft is buying Nokia to "get him back" (he was the head of Microsoft's business division in its highest period of growth ever). And I am not surprised if he becomes the next CEO of Microsoft.
Ps: I have some "slightly comedic" analysis coming soon about the man Elop, I will repost it here as soon as possible.
