Ole Bear has jumped off 30 ft bridges into the river, had an owl try to fly off with him, but I thought I lost him last night. For some reason he decided to chew the TV remote. I found it on the floor, but not working, then saw Bear on his back, peeing in the air, tongue out and blue, obvious choking.I got him tilted and started tapping him, about a minute passed......Seemed he stopped breathing, so I smacked hard, out comes a AA battery. Had to do some mouth to nose/mouth action, but he came back. Had me worried, thought the Ubirats lost it's mascot, even though Wolferz almost won that job.

Never know how he got that thing halfway down. Bear will also be going to get his teeth cleaned and some breath mints.

Was the battery damaged? If so you have a serious concern about burns.

Our lab ate 1/2 of a AA battery and we spent the next few weeks squirting stuff down her throat to handle the burns. Almost lost her.

If the battery was damaged/leaking, please get this guy checked out. :yep:

Wow, I'm happy to hear you got him back.:yep: The same thing happened to me when I had my mini pinscher. He had picked up a piece of wood mulch and the next thing I know he's putting both paws at his mouth, flipping all over the floor, on his back, etc. I grabbed him and using my thumbs, just below his sternum, I performed the heimlich maneuver, did a finger sweep of his mouth and dislodged the obstruction.
Glad Bear is OK.

The story of Bear reminded me of a Golden Lab that ate half of the families Christmas tree. When he was opened to clean out his stomach there was found the glass balls broken, pine needles, metal hooks, garland and other assorted Christmas tree ornaments. He pulled through ok.

Sadly, the owners allowed him access to the tree the following year. He only ate a quarter of the tree that time. Yeesh....

Yowch, close one. Can only agree with the other chaps about checking the battery to make sure no acid got into his digestive systems.

It's crazy the things that dogs try to eat. Glad you were able to save him though. :yep:

The battery looked OK, just some scratches, no breaks. My step daughter is a vet tech, she checked him this morning with some gizmo to look in his throat and fed him some powder meds.

Silly as it may seem to some, I was right scared, life wouldn't be the same with out Ole Bear.

I'm glad for you both. Losing your personal "best friend" is hard to bear.

[edit] No pun intended.

Animals are family, the thought of losing one is just as terrifying. I'm glad you didn't and I'd bet that Bear was glad that his Dad was able to save him.

My daughter is interesting in becoming a vet tech. How does your daughter do in this field?

Man alive, Martin. Keep a closer eye on my little buddy. Howling at the moon just wouldn't be the same without him. Glad he's ok.
My dog likes to eat Q-tips and paper. Preferably toilet paper. We don't put TP on the roll holder anymore and my wife's stupid son just can't be bothered with not throwing his used Q-tips in the bathroom garbage can.
Maybe if I punch him in the mouth the next time he does, it might wake him up but, I hold no positive expectation. I guess I should get a different can for the lavatory and save my knuckles and his teeth.

Glad he's ok Armistead, and you are right, after mouth to nose with you he will definitely need some breath mints. Probably a good rinse and spit as well. :D

Btw, how did feel sticking your nose in a dogs mouth?

Great to hear a happy ending.
Lucky for all you saw Bear when you did and not a few minutes later. I salute you for your quick thinking and appropriate medical response. Some would have lost their composure but you kept yours while working on your "child". Even a seasoned paramedic would have struggled with his/her emotions under those conditions. But then again...that's why you're an admiral. :salute:

Enjoy your weekend with Bear. I know you'll hold him closer in the coming days.

It's crazy the things that dogs try to eat.

Mine almost ate a school bus once, she had ahold of the tire and everything. Wouldnt let the kids get on it.

Glad you saved your dog. Does seem to be a bit dim witted pooch though. But those are the most lovable.

Actually I stuck my mouth over his mouth nose, doesn't really matter, Bear often wakes me up licking my face or pulling my shirt when he needs to go pee.

And he didn't even offer to share.:-?

That's ok. He deserves a treat after that ordeal. I'm referring to the mouth to snout from you.:03:
