View Full Version : House of Cards
Just finished watching the first season of this US take on a 23 year old British series of the same name. I was quite impressed with the writing and with Kevin Spacey in the lead role its definitely a winner in my book.
Looking forward to watching the 2nd season when it returns.
Anyone else caught this little gem?
Yeah, saw the first season awhile back. It's pretty good. :yep:

I enjoyed it for the most part.
The Thick Of It is more to my taste though

I've been wanting to watch it for some time now, but there's this part I read, where he kills a dog
Me no wana see that part
Just skip the first 3 minutes to miss it. It's a mercy killing and you don't see any thing of the dog itself.
I'd be interested in hearing what people who have seen the UK series as well to know which you prefer. The UK FU I think is a lot more charming than Spacey is in the US version.

IIRC the dog was just hit by a car, so it is a mercy killing, the right thing to do.
But it is an epically good show.

Really? In the original he shoots the dog because she's old.
Haven't seen the remake but a huge fan of the original trilogy. I'm sure Spacey is very good, but Richardson is just demonic.

Mercy killing I can live trough.
I'd probably do it myself if my dog was fataly wounded by a car. And then the driver.

The US version is a very different story with several similarities but quite divergent from the UK version.
Foremost difference being the key difference between the US and UK political systems meaning that the US FU cannot immediately step into the top job as the UK FU could once he'd eliminated his opponents. The US story takes a number of significant other deviations which make it worth looking at as it's not a straight remake.

Do yourself a favour and take a look at it. The dog scene is literally right at the start of the first episode and doesn't cause a great deal of trauma for anyone watching.
