View Full Version : Multi-Quote and you (yes, YOU)
So, I see that only a handful of members use this great feature, instead opting
to quote one person per post and so making 2-3 posts in a chain, which is generally
considered as bad netiquette (a lot of forums hand out warnings and/or bans for double-posting).
But fear not, because I'm such a nice guy, and really, quite awesomelike that(also, humble), here's a very quick tutorial on how to use that blasted thing!
This fellow is the multi-quote button, right next to the quote button, bottom right of a post.

If you want to reply to multiple posts, just hit that sucker on every one of those posts.
You see it turns red, that means it's stored in the HAL9000's memory banks
(totally safe, I promise!(unless your name is Dave)).

(Click it again and it unquotes the post in question.)
So, you've got a bunch of posts multi-quoted, and you are ready to
"pour down hate and discontent like a mother-*" as they say in Generation Kill
on everyone who doesnt share your opinion. What now you ask?
Simple, just hit the Post Reply button and it adds the quoted posts automatically!

Multi-quote in nutshell... ferret style!

I use it most of the time. Sometimes I'll find one I missed. When that happens I sometimes get lazy and just quote the one I missed, though these days more and more I'll quote it, edit it and add my comment, then copy the whole thing and use the Edit button to paste it into my original post along with the others.
I do miss the old "quote-within-a-quote" function, but I also understand Neal's reason for removing it. :sunny:

Hit the MQ button on all the posts you want to quote. Then hit the reply button and your post window will open with all of the selected quotes listed. Reply as needed.

I had that happening for awhile too. Every time I'd hit the MQ button the reply box would open automatically. It stopped doing it at some point and I've been okay since.

I'm not as close to Dowly as I'd like to be, but the time that I have spent with him has convinced me of this man's greatness. Dowly is smart. He's smarter than I am. In fact, I would never argue against the man because I would lose. Flat out. I mean, come on, the guy's English is better than most of the native speakers around here and that's his third language. He's a product of the greatest educational system in the world, a wonderful mind and a fantastic person.
So, he comes here and offers some legitimate advice and is mocked resoundingly. He may not show it, but I know it bothers him. Dowly is not the simplistic womanizing drunk that you make him out to be. He as been an invaluable member of the community for many years, and deserves better than open mockery. Sure, you all are about to post and tell me that you're all just kidding and not to take it seriously. Bull. You do it every time he posts, and whether he admits it or not, I know it bothers him.
Shame on you.

I have no doubt Dowly is way sharper than I am but you've got to be kidding. That drunk-womanizing-ferret-pseudo-persona is something he actively promotes here, and is one of the lighter sub currents that make this place fun. I wish I could achieve something like that. You appear to have been taking you're serious pills today. :hmm2:
