View Full Version : Possible to mod Steam version of SH4?
Is it possible to mod the Steam version of SH4? I have heard varying reports from people.
Also, since I'm not exactly... computer savvy, how do you do it? :D

I highly doubt it as Steam controls your game...

Unless you got the U-Boat missions expansion it doesn't really matter whether you can or not since the Steam version of SH4 is version 1.3.(Almost every mod requires 1.5 which you only get from the U-Boat missions expansion.)

No, it's possible to mod Steam games.
The path is C:/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Silent Hunter 4
Why do some people hate Steam so much? It doesn't have a DRM, I've played Steam games offline many times. And the 'verifying installation' thing is just making sure that all the games you've gotten via Steam are on your computer. That means that if you get a new computer, all your old games are reinstalled once you log onto Steam. It's pretty good, and saves you the trouble reinstalling disk after disk after disk...

I can't speak for other people but I have always considered Steam itself to be DRM.

I have modded Counterstrike Source, Left 4 Dead and Unreal Tournament III on Steam, all using JSGME, which other game communities don't seem to know about. All 3 games worked perfectly. I don't have any problem with Steam at all, especially compared to abortions like Direct 2 Drive, which sold games with lousy one use installation codes. Only death and taxes are more probable than whether you'll have to reinstall SH4.

Yeah why is it that the Silent Hunter community seems to be the only one that uses JSGME?

Rise of Flight players use JSGME. You can even download it from the official website!

This is a bit of a stupid question, but can you describe how I'd go about adding a surface ship or something?
I'm good enough to not royally muck things up, but have no idea how to make these things work.

Not only that, but if I recall correctly JSGME was originally created for use with Red Baron.

All those poor people modding Grand Theft Auto San Andreas were doing it the hard way with no safety net. It was a perfect setup for JSGME and they railed against the idea. Every game community is different. The smart ones love JSGME!
